So yesterday I read a very interesting theory about the original Halloween. And just off the bat this only works in looking at the first film as a stand alone, and ignoring all the later films, as in if you just look at it if only the 1978 film were released with no further entries. So just a fun "else-worlds" look at things. Okay so in the first film Michael is only ever referred to as "Michael", not once is he called Michael Myers. So was Michael actually a Myers? Not until the sequel did they mention that his last name is Myers and that Judith is his sister. If you rewatch the film, the opening shows Judith and her boyfriend in the Myers house, where she says "Michael is around somewhere". It's instilled in our brains now that this is his home and Judith is his sister, but in the mindset of this theory, Judith could've just been his babysitter. Killing her and leaving the home as Judith's parents return home finding Michael standing alone holding a bloody knife. I rewatched the film yesterday and it's true. Not even in the credits was Michael given the last name Myers. It truly makes him far sinister to think of in this light. At age 6 his parents could've abandoned him to Smith's Grove and thus his evil sat for years til that fateful Halloween night he escaped. A very fun new look at the original film that truly made a yet another (I've lost count by now) viewing of the '78 classic.
