Today: David Mamet as a director. Although unofficially retired, Mamet directed 10 films. He wrote about filmmaking aftet only two films, but he does have a distinct style: -Most movies are about cons and double-crosses, across genres. -The cast has some combination of: Rebecca Pidgeon (his wife), Joe Mantegna, William H. Macy, Ricky Jay, Ed O'Neill, Felicity Huffman, and Clark Gregg. -Repetitive dialogue, to highlight anxiety and agression. -Face close to the camera while other face in the background, in a dialogue. His films were mostly flops, but the crirics loved them far more than the audience, and most found a home with regular rotation in the IFC channel, and as filler on HBO, Showtime, etc. This helped "Heist" be a mild hit in 2001. Oleanna (1994) This was an interesting watch. It’s based on David Mamet’s two person play and so is a very heavy dialogue driven film. I will say that the ending is surprising and the film will leave you thinking about it for a couple of days. I do feel that the tag line “Whatever Side You Take, You’re Wrong” is correct. This was a very nice selfcare, lazy Sunday. Watched movies, hung out with my furboys. A final movie before going to bed with a nice treat, ice-cream, mango 🥭 flavored. Goodnight 🌛 Movie number 3: To Live Again Summary: A mother locks her teenage daughter in her room after allegedly showing signs of insanity. Over a decade later, the authorities remove the daughter, and an investigation ensues. A social worker makes attempts to rehabilitate and heal the woman's mental anguish caused by 16 years of isolation and abuse. I was around 12 when I saw this movie for the first time. It really touched me and I remember wanting a person, social worker to be that kind and patient like that to me. Oh, my already little broken heart 💔 at that time.. yearning for more. @annabeth_gish was so good in this movie, definitely started to watch more things of her later in life. I also loved her as Monica Reyes in The X Files. Anyway, Bonnie and Annabeth blew me away in this movie. Have seen this one so many times. I missed #BeforeTheSunExplodes when it was @arenacinelounge but finally caught it on @amazonprimevideo. Based on the title, I originally thought it was a #SciFi #film but nope. It’s a relationship #drama about a stand up comic, Ken #BillDawes who gets thrown out of the house by his wife (who may or may not have been cheating on him). He goes to do a set @laughfactoryhw (right around the corner from me!) & meets up with fellow comic, Holly #SarahButler. The two have drinks after & then she invites him to her place. While he wants to cheat back on his wife, he can’t seem to & they end up talking. She’s very much that #MagicPixieGirl trope found in indies. Having met Sarah at a #charity bowling event a couple of times, it’s easy to see why Ken & consequently the audience falls for her. The question is will he give into his desires or go back to his wife & kids. The whole #movie takes place in one night. It’s a bittersweet romance that successfully balances the leads desires with responsibilities, which we don’t often get in #movies. Usually, the cheating is considered de rigeur, an inevitability. So, it’s nice to see the fidelity twist. Nominated twice @sxsw for Best Feature & Best Director, this is one film worth seeking out. Kudos to #DebraEisenstadt for making this. Sundance Film Festival #5: IMAGINARY ORDER Laugh out loud funny - perfect comedic timing. Although, it felt a little odd at times - and uncomfortable - it was a good examination of how often we fall into routines that don’t fulfill us. We notice the mundane of every moment, and the choices we make ultimately define our lives. Every character is striving for something out of their reach - a little bit like everyday human life. Debra Eisenstadt’s writing and direction, heightened by the excellent cast, makes for a wonderful film reflecting real circumstances. 3.5/5

Am Wochenende habe ich in Vorbereitung auf meinen nächsten Theaterbesuch Oleanna geschaut. Herrje, ich habe selten einen Film gesehen, der mich so viel Nerven gekostet hat. Da wird aneinander vorbei, übereinander hinweg gesprochen, geschrien und gerungen. Um Worte, um Macht, um Gerechtigkeit und letzten Endes auch um Wahrheit. Am Ende war ich genau so erschöpft wie die beiden Hauptdarsteller in diesem Schlussbild. Und ratlos, wo genau jetzt die Wahrheit liegt. . Und nervigste aller Nebenrollen in einem Film, die ich je erlebt habe: Das Telefon in Oleanna. . Am Wochenende feiert dieses Stück Premiere im Theater Paderborn. Ich werde es mir erst in der nächsten Woche ansehen können, bin aber jetzt schon wahnsinnig gespannt, wie es dort umgesetzt wird! Und ob ich am Ende auch so runter bin mit meinen Nerven. .
