#spacetruckers oder Stuart Gordons missglückte Eintrittskarte in den Mainstream. Der Erfolg des Vorgängers Fortress - Die Festung sorgte dafür, dass Gordon diesen 25 Millionen Dollar teuren Film machen konnte. Besetzt mit einem erstaunlich gut aufgelegten #dennishopper , einem jungen #stephendorff und der hübschen #debimazar (und durchaus prominenten Nebenrollen, wie z.B. #georgewendt ), erzählt der Film eine Geschichte über Lastwagenfahrer im All, die eine äußerst gefährliche Fracht an Bord nehmen. Im Gegensatz zu seinen früheren Filmen (die eher für schwarzen Humor bekannt sind) tat er dies mit grellen Farben und grellem Humor. Der Humor vertrug sich aber auch nicht wirklich mit den immer erkennbaren Grindhouse- und Sleaze-Ansätzen. Manche der Effekte sind erstaunlich gut (vor allem die praktischen Effekte), aber viele leider gar nicht. Erschreckend schwaches und hässliches CGI lässt den Film unnötig trashig aussehen. Space Truckers ist schwer unterhaltsam, hat richtig coole Elemente (die Kampfdroiden sind wirklich scary), ist aber ein Film der Kategorie: „grandios gescheitert“. Was passiert, wenn Schmuddelkönig #joedamato auf einen der großen italienischen Genreregisseure, nämlich #umbertolenzi trifft? Dann kommt so etwas wie A Hitcher in the Dark raus, zumindest wenn es wie hier 1989 passiert. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt war die Blüte des italienischen Genrekinos nämlich schon ziemlich verblüht und das sieht man hier leider auch. Der Film versucht einen sehr amerikanischen Look hinzubekommen, was zwar funktioniert, aber er sieht eben auch ziemlich billig aus. Die Hauptdarsteller Joe Balogh und #josiebissett mühen sich redlich, reißen aber keine Bäume aus und das Dargestellte wirkt dann auch irgendwie harm- und ziellos, vor allem wenn man die Prämisse und die beteiligten Personen betrachtet. Kann man schon schauen, aber nicht zu viel erwarten, dem Film fehlt der Grindhouse-Punch und die Klasse Lenzis früherer Werke. Und eines davon wäre schon wünschenswert gewesen. (2,5* / 5*) Die #bluraydisc von #mediacs ist qualitativ in Ordnung, kommt sogar mit einem ganz interessanten Interview mit Lenzi, aber ist unterm Strich wie der Film: eher unterdurchschnittlich. “You’re not anybody in America unless you’re on TV!” ☀️🧊⛸️ I am SO excited to FINALLY be checking out the Criterion 4K remaster of one of my favourite films tonight……TO DIE FOR - starring THE Queen, Nicole Kidman! 👑 This is such a great black comedy and thriller, super well done. Awesome plot, great cast (complete with a Cronenberg cameo) and Suzanne Stone Maretto is an ICONIC character! Nicole plays her so flawlessly, totally one of her best performances IMO. The score is absolutely phenomenal as well, Danny Elfman is so brilliant and his work for this is embedded in my brain - especially the opening theme, very elusive. The entire movie has inspired some of my own projects and I urge anybody who hasn’t seen it yet to give it a chance! This is a really lovely release from Criterion. We have the movie on 4K and Blu-ray with a few new extras including Deleted Scenes. There is also an inner print on the reverse of the cover and a cardboard foldout featuring new writing on the film. Happy Friday super friends, we made it! I’m off work and switching into nerd mode for a few days. So, I was at @walmart earlier and like always I check out certain sections besides the necessities that’s actually needed at the house. I’ve been keeping an eye on these Nooks and 3Deep VHS displays by @shopculturefly for a while, and guess what, they’re on clearance! I got the last of these two at my local Wallyworld but they have other properties like Pennywise, TNBC, Jurassic Park and a few others. Definitely gonna grab at least two more next trip! It was quite a flop but it is in the end an interesting #actionthriller . The shoot was not a really pleasant experience, they needed massive reshoots and changed the tone of the movie quite heavily. The film was supposed to be a more calm and very dark serial killer flick but they changed it for more action. Watchable and interesting but not really good. Lost in the Stars (2022) is an exceptional and enjoyable mystery film that wastes no time getting started. There are not so many German cult classic movies but this is one of them: Macho Man starring German boxer #reneweller and it is hard to describe but the film is fascinating. Needed some lighthearted entertainment so I’ve opted for Migration because I love Ducks! 🦆 I don’t really know a whole lot about this, just saw the trailer at the cinema last year and liked the look of it so I added it to my parcel that came yesterday. I know Elizabeth Banks and Awkwafina do the voices though and I love them!! This is the latest #stevenspielberg movie: #thefabelmans and it is an autobiographic one. Although it is not titled The Spielbergs it is about him growing up and discovering his love for movies. But it is as well about growing up in the 50‘s and 60‘s, so it is a #comingofagemovie . The thing is: I wanted the movie to start when it ended. Open Windows by director #nachovigalondo wasn‘t for me. It is a #psychothriller shot by different „real“ cameras. So it has to bend reality really heavily to allow for a seamless narrative. It falls in the same category as #foundfootagehorror films and I really don‘t like this subgenre. Picked up a long time favorite from the #shoutfacotry archives as a bday gift to me the first few minutes of the actual movie had me concerned about the state of the transfer of this movie but it quickly got itself back on the right track. Plenty of special features including the full version of “MANT” as well as the sweet alternate art slip cover (seen in pic 2) 4.5/5 overall only because the transfer had some jarring moments but otherwise a big upgrade from my aging VHS and LD copies. #blurayreview #moviecollector #johngoodmanrealestate #filmnerd #90smovies
I haven't posted anything in awhile on here because my vision has been pretty much gone until a few days ago after multiple blood vessels exploded in my eye about a month ago. I was completely blind for a few days which was very scary. I haven't fully recovered yet but it's getting better every day. This showed up for review from the great folks @ Scream Factory & Shout Studios!!!! I haven't seen this Stephen King remake since it was originally released. This miniseries gets lots of hate but it's a different view of the iconic horror novel which I've appreciated. It actually follows the original source material more than the classic Kubrick version. Looking forward to revisiting it after all these years. It has a solid cast & crew. Have YOU seen it before?
