The Erdener Treppchen Kabinett Riesling from Dr Loosen appears light yellow with greenish nuances. On the nose, it has hints of peach, citrus fruit and spicy herbal notes. The mineral slate character plays around its bouquet. It has a good balance on the palate and you can savour its pleasant minerality and nuances of mild apple. Despite its residual sweetness, it is fresh and elegant. The Riesling has a lingering finish with a fine herbal and spicy aftertaste. A house of a genius 🤓 Last year we were invited at Dr Loosen. Not only did we have the change to taste his wines but we were also invited to see his private domain where he started his empire. The beautiful ballroom was one of the things that surprised me. Nothing more southing then work in such a beautiful place. His library was a place to think , read and have a quite moment. Schon ist es wieder vorbei, das Schwesternwochenende. Schön entspannt war es, die Entschleunigung war dringend nötig. die Tage gab es Maultaschen. Die Brühe davon habe ich aufbewahrt und heute Jasminreis darin gekocht. Dazu grünen Spargel, bei mir wie üblich aus der Pfanne, und einen Rest Lachs, den ich noch im Kühlschrank hatte. Nun sind endlich auch mal wieder meine großen Pastateller zur Geltung gekommen. Dazu gabs einen . 🥂 2022 Weißburgunder trocken vom Weingut Dr. Loosen aus Bernkastel-Kues/Mosel. . Das ist dieser Weißburgunder, den es eigentlich gar nicht geben dürfte, weil Ernie Loosen eigentlich nur Riesling anbaut, aber nach der Neuanschaffung des bereits bepflanzten Weinbergs gab man dem Weißburgunder eine Chance, und er hat erfreulicherweise gewonnen. Es wäre schade um ihn gewesen, begeistert er doch mit einer Spritzigkeit und Mineralität, die beim geneigten Weinkenner eine wahre Trinkfreude auslöst. @tatecourtney and @hamish.greening sat down with winemaking legend Ernie Loosen last week to taste through his latest release of his three Reserve Alte Reben Grosses Gewachs (or GGRs, as Ernie likes to say). Courtney tells us more ... 'It's safe to say that as a pair of diehard Riesling nerds, we were very eager to try these and had to keep our cool as Ernie is certainly one of the biggest names in the world of Riesling. We joined him to taste the 2018 release of his Wehlener Sonnenuhr GG, Ürziger Würzgarten GG, and Erdener Prälat GG. Each of these wines had been long aged on lees, without batonnage for 2 years in fuder casks, followed by up to a further 48 months in bottle before release. Ernie first began experimenting with this uber long lees aging in 1981 when he convinced his father to let him have a barrel of Wehlener Sonnenuhr after reading an old book which talked about the decades of freshness to be found iMosel Riesling even after aging for 20-30 years. He kept his first iteration on lees for 27 years and thus his ‘Indutomarus’ was born, as was his GGR range, which aged for a much more manageable 2 years. The vine age across the three GG’s average at 70 years old (with many up to 120 years of age) and the concentration of acids in the tiny bunches from these veteran vines is sensational ... the heat of the 2018 vintage was absolutely nowhere to be seen in these wines. We were blown away with each, the Erdener Prälat 2018 causing Hamish and I to grin (slightly maniacally) with absolute delight. Ein Himmelreich zum sundowner 🌞🌞 2020 Dr. Loosen Graacher Himmelreich Riesling GG Alte Reben ... ich kann es garnicht oft genug betonen, aber solch ein Moselwein, der 2 Jahre auf der VOLLHEFE lag, dessen Säure wlrkt und ist einfach viel bekömmlicher, als Weine, die nach kurzer Zeit von der Vollhefe gezogen werden (wie fast alle anderen, ausser Weils Montevacano, der wird genauso vinifiziert). Gerade, wenn man so knapp über 35 Jahre alt ist, dann schätzt man diese Bekömmlichkeit besonders. 😁 Und richtig geil ist dieses Graacher Himmelreich Tröpfchen ja eh. Morey Saint Denis BIO by Lou Dumont was tremendous. From an organic parcel within Tres Girard. Production around 900 bottles. Fun fact: it was fermented within 228l barrels. I really love the Lou Dumont 2021s and this is no exception. So fragrant and transparent, but a bit more serious and structured than his Ladoix, Marsannay or Côte de Nuits villages. Not thin, as many 2021s tend to be. Weightless, yet intense. I would not have guessed it had 40% new oak (Chassin). Speaking of Chassin: I think the new oak regime chez Dureuil suits the whites (20% new) better than the reds (33%), but this 2018 rouge really hit the spot. Both the fruits and oak were generous and balanced. Very comfortable. The Rully blanc 2021 has such a high, piercing acidity. In a good way. Enjoyable now, but some patience might be rewarded. Clothair Michal gained experience at Thierry Allemand before settling in Beaujolais, where he produced one of the finest Beaujolais Villages of the AOC, named Clos Napoleon. Now it’s bottled as Vin de France and called Libre Pensée. Super fruity, juicy and digestible, only 11,5% but enough flesh. Bargain. Summer essential. Try. It. Guillemot Jarrons 2021, from the lower slope under the highway to Beaune. Cool vintage vibe. Bit strict, but not thin and green. Red fruited. Aromatic. Individuality. Classicism. Some ageing potential. Like it a lot! The 2019 Bouland Delys ‘Vignes plantées en 1926’ is still so young and concentrated. Tight. Dark and purple fruits. Sauvage. Bit creamy. Huge potential. More like a Rhône than a juicy Beaujolais.
