Eli (2019) 🍿 3/5 Popcorns This is a psychological and thriller film that will keep you guessing the missing puzzle in the story as it unfolds to you. This is one of the reason why I was kept glued to finish this film until the end. To be honest the first half is interesting - story wise and background of the film but the second half was kinda confusing transition from delusion and science to religion and exorcism. I didn't hate the transition but I find this a little bit misleading and puzzling. Yet, I still find it entertaining along with its handful of jump scares and suspense. Eli (2019) 🌝🌚🌚🌚🌚 En pojke med en autoimmun sjukdom, aka bubble boy, upptäcker att behandlingshemmet som hans föräldrar nyss har flyttat honom till inte är så säkert som han trodde. Första tredjedelen av filmen börjar starkt med väldigt tydligt markerade religiösa övertoner där koncept som himmel och helvete, änglar och demoner tolkas ur ett vetenskapligt och medicinskt perspektiv där man som tittare inte är helt säker på vart handlingen var på väg mot. Det faddar ut till en ganska ointressant modern spökfilm som skiftar fokus i slutet till ett fullkomligt urlöjligt och barnsligt "edgy" tonläge från resten av filmen där sista akten exploderar i eld, blixt och en diarré av specialeffekter överallt. Dan isu yg dibawakan untuk filem ni agak berat sebenarnya, kenapa berat? Itu korang kena tengoklah sendiri. Untuk permulaan filem ni agak memerlukan sedikit kesabaran, kerana pergerakan cerita yg slow. Tapi bila dah tiba dipertengahan, filem ni mulai memperlihatkan misteri dan jumpscare yg fresh dan unpredictable. Di sinilah penonton akan mulai dibuat tertanya-tanya apa sebenar yg terjadi. Dan semuanya akan terjawab di penghujung filem ni. Elemen seram dan jumpscare yg menjadi kekuatan sebenar untuk filem ni. Terdapat banyak babak seram dan menakutkan sepanjang filem. Semakin lama akan semakin terasa keseramannya. Cumanya filem ni juga terdapat beberapa plothole, tapi masih boleh dilayan sebagai tontonan santai. Watak Eli ni berjaya dibawa dengan baik sekali oleh Charlie Shotwell. Walaupun masih budak, tapi lakonannya cukup bagus dan menyerlah. Juga pujian buat pelakon yg membawa watak ibu dan ayah Eli dalam filem ni. Watak mereka berdua yg kelihatan mencurigakan sekali berjaya memberikan persoalan kepada penonton. Tak lupa pula film ini akan menampilkan adegan-adegan menyakitkan yang mungkin akan membuat beberapa ponontonnya ngilu, karna beberapa proses penyembuhan/operasi yang dilakukan sang dokter terbilang sedikit ekstrim dan tidak wajar. Ditambah lagi dengan ending nya yang sangat twist, memang sedikit tidak masuk di akal, tapi tetap ending ini memberikan efek kejutan yang sama sekali tidak disangka. Tapi, menurut aku di awal sampai pertengahan film, plotnya terlalu lambat, filmnya hanya berjalan dengan penambahan-penamban misteri yang malah akan terbongkar sekaligus di bagian akhir film. Eli (2019) 5 out of 10 Wow. It's been a while. I have been watching a lot of movies, I just haven't gotten around to reviewing them so I might just do a bunch of quick ones. . Anyway, Eli. I saw this on some people's best horror of the year lists so I thought I'd give it a shot. Well, I did not like it. An entire point is there just because there were a couple of good creepy scenes that I liked. The one where the kid's shirt gets pulled was just really cool to me. Everything else was either just okay or worse. The first two thirds of the movie were alright I suppose, nothing that interesting, but I am a sucker for creepy institution atmospheres. But the end came out of nowhere. It wasn't a satisfying twist at all, it felt more like it had been tacked on because someone wanted there to be a shock. The thing that makes a twist good is that you can think back a see the signs. But there was nothing. Just disappointing.

ELI (2019) 🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️ - Now here's a Netflix gem that's a totally solid horror movie that will leave you shocked with its unexpected twist! I wouldn't spoil the outcome so don't you fret! But let me say this, is Eli the love child of DAMIEN (from The Omen) and CARRIE WHITE? (Carrie), btw Both films were released in 1976! I just can't help but notice that Eli possesses the traits of both characters! From resisting violently to continue taking treatment (though Eli is not afraid of the cross) to the telekinesis he displayed which was totally mind-blowing! That scene where Eli unleashed his powers (a nod to The Dark Phoenix) and as he walked ablaze setting the room on fire was just a cinematic experience (I know Carrie did it first) but Eli displayed it with aplomb! The acting is flawless! a bit slow-paced at first but really ended strong. It has a rewatcheable charm to it too. This movie needs a sequel pronto! I wanna see Eli do more with his powers, I can see him beating that boy from the movie Brightburn, the only difference is, at least Eli has an iota of goodness in his heart! The Witch works great as the short story that it is, but doesn't accomplish enough as a full length ( even if its only 90 minutes long ). There is some amazing cinematography, wonderful acting, decent amount of tension, and some disturbing imagery. However, there isn't enough of any. Pacing and editing seems to be the films biggest issue with many scene jumps happening just to get to the next tension filled lead up. It works to keep you intrigued on what might happen, but leaves much more to be desired in regards to fleshing out the narrative. To have walked away from this extremely disturbed and thinking about all the different aspects of the story would have been great, but ultimately it just reads as a rated R folk tale that would have lent it self better as an episode within an anthology series. 6 Need more Black Phillips out of 10
Day 27: Eli 2019 #onehorrormovieeverydayinoctober A sick boy is trapped in a haunted house for treatment. It was so-so for me. The atmosphere and story was great at the start but went downhill in the last 15-20 minutes. I won’t post any spoilers, because it’s new, but I didn’t like the ending at all. I was hoping for something a bit more clever.
