43 years ago today, Eyes of a Stranger was released in theaters/drive-ins on March 27, 1981. A decent early 80s slashers and for sure one of the creepiest ones in my opinion. Features Lauren Tewes and a young Jennifer Jason Leigh in one of her early roles. About a sadistic serial killer and rapist who assaults and murders various women and kills anyone else who gets in his way in the Miami area. The newscaster portrayed by Tewes, suspects the creep might be her neighbor. I thought the actor John DiSanti who portrayed Stanley Herbert the serial killer did an excellent job as he was very convincing of being that sick evil bastard in my opinion. His character is the image of a real life monster. Plus, the special effects and makeup done by the legendary “King of Splatter” Tom Savini. „Eyes of a Stranger“ (DT: Die Augen eines Fremden) - Kurz Review Synopsis: Jane, eine Fernsehreporterin, untersucht den Fall einer Reihe brutaler Vergewaltigungen und Morde, die die ganze Stadt in Angst und Schrecken versetzen. Alle Hinweise führen sie zu der verblüffenden Schlussfolgerung, dass der Psychopath ihr eigener Nachbar ist. Fazit: So kurz die Handlung auch beschrieben ist desto spannender ist der Film. „Eyes of a Stranger“ von 1981, als die Slasher Welle gerade im vollen Gange war, erschien auch dieser Film von Warner Bros, der sich gerade in Sachen Suspense doch sehr deutlich von ähnlichen Genre-Vertretern aus dieser Zeit abhebt! Eine sehr starke Lauren Tewes die sich rührend um ihre blinde und taube Schwester gespielt von einer blutjungen Jennifer Jason Leigh bilden dabei ganz besondere Frauen Figuren. Die Special FX waren übrigens von keinem geringeren als Tom Savini (Dawn Of the Dead). Ein völlig in Vergessenheit geratener kleiner Slasher, ein spannendes Katz und Mausspiel mit einem tollen Score, guter Atmosphäre und einem starken Cast! Gerade die letzten 15 Minuten gibt Leigh eine unvergessliche Performance. #Contagious marked the first Y&T album without drummer #LeonardHaze and the first with #JimmyDeGrasso who would go on to play with #Megadeth and a slew of other big-name rock acts in the 90s and beyond. With a new lineup came a sleazier, Los Angeles-inspired hair-metal sound quite similar to #Ratt and #VanHalen ( #LARocks, #RhythmOrNot, and #TheKidGoesCrazy are particularly Halen-ized; the latter has #DavidLeeRoth written all over it and totally reminds me of #ItsShowtime from #ALittleAintEnough). As much as I dig the party songs, however, my real interest lies with edgier fare like #FightForYourLife, #EyesOfAStranger, #BodilyHarm, #ArmedAndDangerous, and the title track which is one of those singular eighties anthems that just makes me feel like a teenager on Friday night every time I play it. #Temptation is another big highlight - an atmospheric power ballad credited to #AlPitrelli and #BrunoRavel that was also demoed for the first #DangerDanger record (you can hear that version on 2003's “Rare Cuts”). In hindsight, this album definitely lacks the personality of earlier releases but I played the hell out of it back then and it still hits the spot for me now.
