The smallest house in Great Britain! I saw this red house in the distance whilst walking the town walls. Utterly fascinated with something that didn’t fit in, off we went for a closer look. Turns out the smallest house in Great Britain! £3.50 for me and the kids to take a look. So got the tickets and in we went. Short cd audio played whilst you experience the house and imagining people actually living in there! The lady hosting wash very kind to take pictures of ticket holders whilst you waited for previous visitors to leave. I really do love to try and experience as much as I can, no matter how big or small. Surprise! I still have some Costa Rica favorites left 😄 but I am about out for now! Today I packed the chosen few of the kids stuffies.... they had all picked out a couple while we were in CR, and it brought back some memories. We've got Crocodoc and a Turtle... Two monkeys with missing eyeballs...a snake with one eyeball hahah They've been a well-loved reminder of this trip! We did finally said goodbye to the eyeless monkeys 😆 (Thanks Echo dog!) I still have a lot to share from Iceland and Ireland, and even a bit from Baja too! And ya know.... The 3 years in between 🤣 But for this rainy day (at least here in the PNW), I give you sunshine! ☀️😁
We do love a good, moody hike with the fog and rain. BUT every once in a while, we like to find a hike that has a different look and feel. The hike at📍Horse Lake Preserve served us well for our wildflower fix and some beautiful green rolling hills! 🌼 In Wenatchee, WA, you’ll find numerous trails to hike, bike or horseback ride. 🥾 🚲 🐴 It’s about at 3 hour drive from Seattle to the Apple Capital of the World. 🍎 Even though it was quite windy, and the drive was long from Western Washington, the views were epic! 😎 The trail just reopened this month (open April 1-December 1) and the routes to take our endless! We put in almost 6 miles and the kids didn’t complain. Some recent highlights... ❤️ 15 years ago, we sold our blender for $10 to afford food because we had ran out of money at the end of season. I remember seeing some parents climbing with their 4 year old... I told Pete that if we were to have kids, I wanted to climb with them too. Fast forward, dreaming big, here we are. It's a pinch me moment to be able to spend 1 month in the alps with our littles as well as hosting family at the same time. 🙏🏻
Must See Castle near Denver 📍The Dunafon Castle is 15 miles west of Denver in the beautiful Bear Creek Canyon. The castle itself is on private property, and cannot be accessed from this trail, but you can get a great look at the castle from this route though. To get there you will need to park at the Lair o’ the Bear Park and hike about 1.3 mi along the river on Bear Creek Trail. I love this hike as it’s beautiful year round. In my opinion it’s one of the easiest mountain hikes in the Denver area. It’s relatively flat, with lots of shade and water access for warmer summer months. There is also a few great areas with tables for picnic. 🦮Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. Saltee Island is absolutely magical and one of my favorite places we’ve been to so far in Ireland. From the rugged cliffs to the PUFFINS 🐧 it truly is such a special and beautiful place. We booked our trip over with salteeferry. It departs from Kilmore Quay in Wexford and takes about 20 minutes. A highlight of our day was seeing a seal right next to the boat before we even left the harbor! 🦭 Once we got to the island, we transferred to a smaller boat that took us ashore. It does what’s called a “wet landing” which means you jump out into the water #the beach. There was a lot of smelly seaweed and rocks to walk through so our water shoes were handy to have. Then we had about 3 hours to explore the island. There are no facilities so we all went to the bathroom before boarding the ferry and brought lots of snacks and water with us. The puffins were so tiny and fun to watch and the island itself was amazing! We loved walking through the ferns and taking in the stunning views. Nic, Hudson and Luc’s favorite part was having a snack at the top of the mountain. Lily loved the boat ride, seal and bunny and I loved seeing the puffins. If you are ever in Ireland between April-July this is definitely worth doing! Second day in north wales, we had a lay in and got ourselves sorted for the day. After breakfast we made our way for the first stop of the day, Conwy. Approximately 2 hours from OC and LA (3h from San Diego), Joshua Tree is the closest national park to us, and a place where our family has made so many memories over the years! We are back on the road and heading north for the summer. Our first stop required us to make a 2 day trip from Texas to Indiana. The first night we stayed in a Bass Pro Shop parking lots, which is actually one of our favorite places to boondock. The second night we used a Harvest Host and stayed at the Mid America Motorworks in Effingham, Illinois. This was a fun stop for both Derek and his dad as it has a large amount of automotive memorabilia and collectibles. It also had a 1910 gas station that was moved and restored on site. There were 15-20 cars on site including the last C4 Corvette. This was a really cool and fun stop for the night. It helped that the owner was amazing and very accommodating. Must See Castle near Denver 📍The Dunafon Castle is 15 miles west of Denver in the beautiful Bear Creek Canyon. The castle itself is on private property, and cannot be accessed from this trail, but you can get a great look at the castle from this route though. To get there you will need to park at the Lair o’ the Bear Park and hike about 1.3 mi along the river on Bear Creek Trail. I love this hike as it’s beautiful year round. In my opinion it’s one of the easiest mountain hikes in the Denver area. It’s relatively flat, with lots of shade and water access for warmer summer months. There is also a few great areas with tables for picnic. 🦮Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. Kyoto is just pure magic! For our next few posts, we're happy to "shrine" some light on our favorite temple visits in this city of over 1600 temples and 400 shrines! ⛩️🇯🇵 Kiyomizu-dera Temple is a must-visit in Kyoto! This is one of the oldest temples in Japan built in 773 and offers breathtaking views of the city. We were lucky to experience beautiful Kiyomizu-dera at sunset. The most spectacular thing about this temple is that there was not single nail used in the construction of the complex. The most spectacular thing about our visit was that we carried a stroller up and back down hundreds of stairs to visit it, and survived! 😂 📍 Kiyomizu-dera, Kyoto, Japan 🇯🇵
Hi folks!😁 A BIG thank you to all who came to see Chris last Sat night in Alfrick. The event was a special favour to my mum for charity and all proceeds have gone to restore the sundial in a local historic building. Thank you all for coming 🤗. Today we talked to Kris (@smasher14 ) who just recently completed the Iron Dog Pro Class. The Iron Dog is a 2500 mile snowmobile race in Alaska that took him and his teammate 5 days to complete. The Iron dog is considered the world's longest and toughest snowmobile race in the world and after hearing about the hell these racers go through during this race I absolutely believe it. Riders are required to carry an extensive list of survival gear in case things go south and often rely on the locals and other teams to help them maintain their sleds and carry on. There is a ton of strategy involved in this event regarding when to take a break and when to ride based on weather conditions. Kris kicks off the episode by telling us about how he got into snowmobiling living in Alaska and how its led to him riding professionally throughout his life. As someone who snowmobiled in college it was super fun to hear about this event and the level of skill needed to complete this brutal event. Kris's excitement comes out as he explains the different scenarios, hiccups and landscapes he had to conquer and how it was all worth it getting to be one of 15 teams to cross that finish line. Southern Pegasus Bay Track goes for about 14km parallel to the beach, we enjoyed a 1km snippet which goes along the top of the sand dunes between Waimairi Beach and North Beach. It’s a golden nugget spot for the kids, plenty of places to stop and get lost in play along the dunes and an option to walk back along the beach. Took inventory yesterday before our camping season and hurricane season is in full swing, checking on a few more items today that we like to keep on hand such as batteries, glow sticks, just add water meals, etc. Camp stores are great about having random things you may forget, but it's always nice to be prepared just in case they're out of it too. 🎢 LEGOLAND-BILLUND 🇩🇰 After a beautiful time in Copenhagen, we took a bus across Denmark to Billund, the birthplace of Lego! Our Lego loving kids were right out home in our pirate motel, with fun lego touches everywhere. We spent a chilly day at Legoland, which must have scared away most people, because we hardly waited in line! Sometimes we didn't even get off, they just let us go round again 😂 We also visited the Lego House, a ginormous Lego play center and museum. It was full of building areas, amazing creations and the history of lego. One of the coolest parts was as you leave, they had a machine actively producing and bagging lego pieces. Everyone got to have a bag of the newest legos, fresh off the press. #lego #legoland #denmark #travelwithkids #adventurefamily
⛵️☀️NILE RIVER CRUISE ☀️🇪🇬 After Cairo, we flew down to Luxor to cruise down to Aswan. After being in such a huge city, floating down the river was so beautiful and peaceful. We had so many new experiences as a family...trying new food, riding in a horse carriage, climbing through temples and tombs and a Nubian Village.
