In honor of Earth Day 🌎 I wanted to share one of my Top 5 most favorite hikes! Hanging Lake… it’s exactly what it sounds like. It’s a small bowl-like basin hanging up on a mountain side. Water flows into the lake over Bridal Veil Falls. The hike was steep and snowy but the views from above were incredible! It was so steep in spots that instead of hiking down we treated the dug out path like a natural slide 🛝 and slid down the mountain! It was quite the adventure! The hike is only 1.2 miles but took about 2 hours to get up in the deep snow and of course because my need to stop and take a million pics and videos to capture our adventure! You do need a permit! We were lucky enough to snag one as we walked up as we were unaware one was needed. Also I highly recommend fraction chains or crampons. I would not recommend bringing kids in the winter! It definitely has some super sketchy spots as you can see in my video! Beginning in May, access will be limited to Hanging Lake and other Glenwood Canyon trails while trail reconstruction work, bridge replacements, and other improvements are completed, the National Forest Service announced Friday. The work will repair damage from catastrophic debris flows in 2021 and make the trails better able to handle future high water and debris." Trail improvements and ecological restoration will begin May 1 in order to make the 1.2-mile Hanging Lake Trail more sustainable, safe and resilient," the NFS said. "Highlights of the project include replacing the trail’s seven bridges to better accommodate high water and constructing a boardwalk at Spouting Rock to reduce erosion and other impacts." During the construction the Hanging Lake Trail will be closed Monday-Friday as well as some weekends once bridge replacement begin later in the summer. Another reason I decided to work a service job in Aspen instead of going back to chemistry is the seasonal nature of the job. Most places in Aspen close down for a month in the spring and fall. Но на этот раз нам впервые 🎉 удалось это! Ура! Я мечтала побывать здесь уже давно, и озеро меня не разочаровало. Сам трейл, безусловно, один из самых живописных из всех, что мне довелось видеть. Путь ведет вдоль реки, которая создает это великолепное озеро на вершине гор, поэтому на протяжении всего маршрута мы наслаждались водопадами, лесом, горами и свежим воздухом. Было невероятно холодно, и это говорит человек, который был одет сразу во всю свою самую теплую одежду! Даже крутой и достаточно длинный трейл в гору не согрел. Не представляю, как другие люди и дети переносили это в шортах... Hanging Lake славится своими кристально чистыми водами, которые создают невероятную синевато-зеленую атмосферу. Этот оазис спокойствия находится среди пышной зелени и величественных скал. Озеро находится на высоте более 1800 метров и окружено крутыми скальными стенами, создавая впечатляющую картину. Thankful Thursday. Goal met! I have had this hike on my list for more than a decade. Unbelievable! These pics are untouched and standing in front of this lake is breathtaking. I was lucky to arrive at the top and have the lake to myself. It seems to be suspended at over 7000 ft in the Glenwood Canyon. Your visit requires a permit and I highly recommend spikes and poles. It’s not a long hike but a great climb that is steep at many spots. Give yourself time at the top to take it all in - the crystal clear water, the colorful trout, the waterfalls, the burn scar from the wildfire of 2020, the crisp fresh air, and of course all the sounds of nature. Colorado’s beauty still amazes me after all these years 🖤 My partner and I did this “top destination” hike near Glenwood Springs: Hanging Lake. I only visit this particular trail in the winter 🤔… must be the stillness of a fresh blanket of snow. We were one of three groups doing this later afternoon hike, and on our way we spotted a frozen bloody deer leg by the trail AND wolf paw prints heading up into the mountains! I forgot that a pack of wolves were released in the area back in December. One of my favorite hikes on my Colorado road trip last year was to Hanging Lake, a last-minute decision since you do need a reservation to park and climb up the 1.5 mile and 1,000-foot elevation gain. Hanging Lake at Glenwood Cannon is a place so special that it was being loved ❤❤to death until the U.S. Forest Service partnered with Glenwood Springs last year to control access and limit crowds from May to October — a policy that will be in place again this year — but there’s no need for crowd control in the winter. When you made the 1.2-mile climb of 1,000 vertical feet to the lake the amount of people will rarely exceed 30 people, only a dozen or so will be around the lake.
