Anyone have any recommendations for ways to use lovage? It's not a plant I've worked with much and I just got loads of it from a new friend from my bookclub😍🌱📚 I just joined a new book club with mums from my daughter's playschool and I know this sounds a bit OTT but honestly a dream come true! We listened to a podcast this month rather than book and it was so good! A BBC podcast called Witch, has anyone listened to it? Super interesting! 🧙‍♀️ For my Outlander fans, it mentioned Gaylis Duncan who turns out was an actual woman burnt in the witch trials in Scotland! Did not know that! 🤩 (I'm literally incapable of not fangirling about my favourite fictional characters😅) Anyway, I wore my witchy hat and came home with this massive bunch of herbs, sage, parsley and lovage!! Literally so delighted with all of it😅 I eat and drink a lot of parsley (it's a great emmenagogue tea for when your period is due and also great for fluid retention!) And I'm going to make a smudge stick and a vinegar with the all the sage! But no idea what to do with the lovage! If you have any ideas let me know!! Blackthorn Part 2 🤍 In Ireland it is believed that moon fairies live in blackthorn bushes. They watch over the blackthorn and only leave it during a full moon. Like the hawthorn, the blackthorn is a plant associated with fairies, and places where blackthorn and hawthorn grow side by side are particularly magical. Blackthorn twigs are used as incense on Beltane/Walpurgis Night. The Germanic tribes used blackthorn to create protective hedges because in shamanic cultures, blackthorn was regarded as a shrub that balanced light and darkness, life and death, demons and healing powers. Its bark and fruit provided a red dye for coloring natural fibers and for making writing ink. Archaeological finds of blackthorn seeds in pile dwellings indicate that the fruit was already used for human nutrition in the early Stone Age. It is mentioned as a medicinal plant in medieval herbal books. All parts of the plant are used in herbal medicine. Its effects are astringent, slightly diuretic, slightly laxative and antiseptic. The The dried flowers are used, for example, as a tea infusion to purify the blood. 🇬🇧This weekend I cooked for 12 peoples for a herbology course. 🌱 On the menu was: Vegetables spring tart with Dandelion apple salad. Wild garlic & Nettle soup with Beetroot Carpaccio. Breakfast buffet with homemade sourdough bread, local cheese & butter, sheep yogurt, homemade granola and fruits. Wild garlic omelette with asparagus. Cauliflower potato mash with wild garlic. Steamed Curry veggies. 🌺🌷🙏🥰✌️🌱🥗🥬🥘🍊🥖❣️🥐 ___________________________________________________ 🇨🇵 Ce week-end j'ai cuisiné pour 12 personnes pour un cours d'herbologie.🌱 Au menu il y avait : Tarte printanière aux légumes et salade de pommes pissenlit. Soupe d'ail des ours et d'orties avec carpaccio de betterave. Petit-déjeuner buffet composé de pain au levain maison, fromage & beurre local, yaourt de brebis, granola maison et fruits. A bit late this evening but this week’s wildflower is Cowslip. Often found along roadsides or in woodlands, Cowslip is a native perennial. Widespread across the midlands but less frequent in southern areas so we are lucky to have these growing wild in our lovely town. Cowslip have striking flower adorned stems, 25cm in height with clusters of drooping 5 petal yellow flowers. A member of the Primrose family, you’ll find this one flowering from now until the end of May. Irish folklore talks about Cowslip as being a remedy for insomnia. And apparently, Cowslip tea is said to strengthen the nerves and to provide a relief from giddiness! Handy to know 😅 Have you seen this one around Bray? 📜 Chronique Intégrale les loups de Járnvidr (tome 2) de @cleo.blackwood.auteure 🐺🌿 Ma chronique pour le tome 2 va être assez courte. J'ai globalement tout dit dans celle du tome 1. Et j'ai adoré l'intégrale dans son entièreté. ❤️ J'avais déjà été conquise par l'histoire fin juin 2023 et je le suis à nouveau en ce mois d'avril 2024. Une belle pépite. ❤️❤️ 🐺🌿 Dans ce volume, on retrouve Elin 6 mois plus tard, elle essaie de refaire sa vie, sans penser à un certain loup. Mais c'est sans compter sur Kjell qui en a décidé autrement. D'autant plus que la vie d'Elin est à nouveau menacée par une bande de débile (ça c'est mon point de vue 🤣) et leur chef (Xochilt, qui n'a pas d'instinct de survie 🤦🏽) ! Bon au demeurant, c'est peut-être vrai que Xochilt ne la connait pas, mais il va apprendre à la connaître à son détriment. 😈🥰🤭 🐺🌿 D'autres problèmes vont bien sûr s'ajouter à tous ça, donnant un rythme palpitant au livre, toujours emprunt de mythologies scandinaves ! This was the plant that started it all almost a year ago. I bought this cute pitcher plant (later named Moe) at either Lowes or Home Depot and planted it in a T rex cookie jar. At the time, I treated all plants the same (don’t unfollow me yet), so this poor guy was put in regular potting soil in the cookie jar had no drainage and watered with tap water. Thankfully, he survived until I realized what I was doing wrong! Now Moe is in long sphagnum moss in a plastic pot with drainage inside the cookie jar (it was just too cute). He is watered with reverse osmosis water and sits near a grow light in my office. An informative session on "Importance of Plant Identification and Biodiversity in Western Ghats" was presented by revered Mr. Udayan, Senior Consultant, NMPB RCFC & Kerala Forest Research Institute. Mr. Udayan walked us through the importance of taxonomy, steps in identification of strange plants, the rich flora and fauna of Western Ghats and why biodiversity is essential for human survival. The session was an insightful experience for students as well as faculty members.
