2 days of feeling blah 😑 and not feeling good at all. It’s truly frustrating dealing with autoimmune diseases because you’ll have a week of feeling good then out of nowhere you’re hit with pain, exhaustion, any number of things and it’s put you down for days. Dealing with autoimmune diseases is always a gamble bc you never know how things are going to go when you wake up. I had several good days, then it hit me and I’ve been in bed for two days straight feeling awful. 😢 So I was able to force myself to get up, soak in an epsom salt bath, finally eat something and now I’m hydrating with my fluids through my port (which is acting up and that’s a whole other story) I’m hoping all this will make me feel semi better and I can recover and get back to good days. Quem não me conhece e até algumas pessoas que convivem comigo algumas vezes se espantam por eu parecer bem e saudável, mas há muitos momentos e dias que me sinto mal. Só pq eu geralmente estou feliz, sempre sorrindo e não parecer doente, não significa que eu não esteja. A vida de um autoimune crônico não é fácil. Coisas simples como carregar uma sacola no mercado, segurar uma xícara de café pela manhã e até pentear os cabelos alguns dias é algo que simplesmente eu nãos consigo fazer. E ESTÁ TUDO BEM‼️ Aprendi a lidar com isso da forma mais leve que fosse possível. 🍃 A cada 6 semanas venho ao hospital para fazer meu tratamento. Passei por todos os protocolos orais e nenhum conseguiu “deter” a doença como esta medicação imunobiológica que recebo o REMICADE. Scavato, ormai esausto passo la linea del traguardo: ma sono vuoto ho seminato le mie energie lungo tutto un percorso che solo grazie alle foto riesco ad apprezzare. Perché quando sei lì in mezzo alle volte odi ciò che stai facendo e ti domandi più di una volta chi te l’abbia fatto fare. Nonostante la costante idratazione, ti rendi conto che è bastata unicamente alla sopravvivenza perché il corpo è ugualmente disidratato. Lo vedo dalle braccia vuote e dalla pelle raggrinzita, da una mimica facciale priva di espressione. È davvero assurdo quanta grandezza e quanta gratitudine possa rilasciare un viaggio così intenso, al limite della fattibilità. Sono le esperienze migliori queste, quelle che ti fanno sentire vivo e padrone della tua esistenza. What a day. Our alarm went off at 3:20 AM, we drove an hour, and then, after Edwin @nievesed2001 was prepped by a wonderful nurse who put us at ease and made us laugh so hard, he went into his day surgery. The procedure started late, and as I waited, I went through all the reading material I brought AND today’s Seattle Times. I hit the hospital Starbucks, got a matcha tea, and bought myself a present, a pretty, new water bottle. Then I waited some more. A therapy dog named Darby, who comes to the hospital, visited me—and that made me so happy. More hours went by. Then I was reunited with my Edwin after a successful operation. 🥰 Our awesome nurse, Kristeen, graciously posed for a photo with Edwin. Seattle traffic on Friday afternoons is pretty tough; today’s was no exception. We got home and it had been an 11-hour day! Our #WriterFriendsChallenge asks today what fictional skills or abilities would benefit me, as a writer? The first thing that popped into my head was a time stretching machine. Or perhaps just the ability to be like Samantha Stephens and make everything and everyone else stand still, frozen, for hours on end so that I could finish a project without interruption, distraction or a continual list of things OTHER than writing which take up time and spaces on my calendar. The Magic Time stretcher AND/OR the ability to freeze everyone else in a moment in time so that I could take care of the professional aspect of my life I love the most, without interference. Six months ago today , my intuition and the universe guided me to the beach where I ran into an old acquaintance. “What do I do when things don’t go as planned?” This is the daily question from my friends at the #WriterFriendsChallenge I am reminded of a moment in the movie “Sleepless in Seattle” when Sam (as written by Nora Ephron, screenwriter) describes what he does when his life is shattered. Nora Ephron wrote, “I’m gonna get out of bed every morning … breathe in and out all day long. Then after a while, I won’t have to remind myself to get out of bed every morning and breathe in and out.” The past four years of my life, since my near death experience of October, 2019, I have done different iterations of a writer treading water on repeat. I have made a lot of progress with my book and journal projects, but I have also struggled and still am fighting the struggle. The one thing I have not done, is I have not given up on myself. It is less often that I have to remind myself to get out of bed every morning. I no longer have to remind myself “inhale and…. Exhale…” My shoulders spend less time up around my ears. My confidence is coming back. I recognize myself more regularly. In April - National Poetry Month - I have quietly posted a poem a day from my archives in both my Let Our Words Flow Creative Community (a private facebook group which you are welcome to join - let me know via a direct message or in the comments) as well as on my facebook business page. It was a way for me to test myself, to see how devoted I am to “returning to myself fully” as a writer and creative entrepreneur. My long time readers have known me since I was much younger. To them and to the new ones among you, I invite you to start reading again - and continue - because as Robert Browning famously said, “Grow old with me. The best is yet to be.” Breathing in and out, day in and day out, separately and together.
