Hello friends, I just wanted to give you a quick update about the magazine since I know you’re all hanging on to the edge of your seats… Submission are rolling in! We have 10 contributors for Issue 001. As mentioned, many of the contributors are friends and co-conspirators: folks I’ve met online and IRL who I admire and believe have important stories to share. There is some art, some poetry, some essays. I’m excited to introduce each of them to you and even more excited to chat with them on the podcast. Issue 001 will be sold through a Kickstarter campaign. I hemmed and hawed over this but feel that Kickstarter gives the project more legitimacy than me selling copies on my website. I’m hoping you’ll be inspired to support the project and pre-order a copy, but also share it through your networks to friends and family that you think may also enjoy reading these stories. I must admit that I love the design work maybe more than anything else. She’s a morning fixture on channel 7’s Sunrise, but more recently she’s become an internet poster girl for sleeping in separate rooms with her husband 🤷🏼♀️. We think it’s a genius move to be honest. Introducing Eddie @edwina_b - the next creative in the ‘Meet Our Makers’ series. With a no bs policy, loyalty beyond words and a self deprecating humour that’s instantly infectious, she’s also a bit of a powerhouse when it comes to creating short term accomodation - a woman of many (many, many) hats. Alongside her husband, Neil Varcoe @neilwrites (who she maintains is the budding hotelier in the family) they created @warramba - a restored 1890’s farmhouse turned serene, authentic farm-stay. There’s been a lot of hubub about their new journey @saltash__farm - and we can’t wait to feature it when it’s open - but let’s take a trip down memory lane and remember where it all began. For Volume 02, Eddie penned the next instalment of our ‘On Hosting’ series. She reminisces about the mishaps, midges and milestones of going in blind and buying a random farm in the middle of beautiful Capertree Valley. Amongst her many hats is an earnest mad hatter storyteller, and this is only the beginning: “To me, the most wonderful compliment is ‘you must be from the country.’ It translates to being down to earth and average, in a very positive way. The reality is I grew up overseas in the huge metropolis of Tokyo, Japan . Today is a very special day. Today is my Grandpa's 100th heavenly birthday! My first issue, Garden of Growth, is dedicated to him. From bravely serving in World War II as a tank driver to nurturing his beloved rose garden, his resilience matched his warmth and love. Growing up he worked as a groundskeeper at a golf course until he was 88 years old and when he finally retired he was still hard at work in the yard everyday until he couldn't anymore. He passed peacefully at the age of 96 in 2020. Inspired by my grandpa's ethos, I've endeavored to infuse love and dedication into every aspect of my life and work. He always taught me that to live a happy life you need purpose. Wake up to something that brings you joy.
