I did a run! ———————————————————- I’ve been resting due to my achilles thing, still not had a definitive diagnosis, but resting it has reduced the swelling. So only a break of 3 weeks has made a difference. I’m itching to get out so I did. I did walk a short section but felt good. The start was off road, I’m sure that helped. it was through an abandoned miniature train line. Over trellis bridges, through tunnels, great fun. So managed 4.3 miles. Busy day ——————————————————— First day in a few when it hasn’t rained so the world felt like it came to Devon. This morning’s hash was over in East Devon. Woodbury common has some great areas to run over. Everyone else thought they’d walk their dogs! 5.5 miles but you can soon loose people. Some parts felt so remote. The first photo reminds me of an African savanna. Back home at it was a little diy. Painting a floor. Then @mrs_receiver and I went to see the lights in Torquay. Again, the rest for the world thought that would be a good thing to do. This time walking their kids. It was soooo packed for a Sunday evening. Again made better by a clear night. Turner painting ——————————————————— Twas a windy and wet evening tonight in Devon. We were all wrapped up ready for the worst but it stayed dry on the trail. Well, apart from underfoot. My first hash as GM Tight and I arrived well before time, so had Spocky, Itzy and Son of a Bitz. They were having s chat to our hares, Zoot and Hotlips. We struggled to get into the car park so I parked on the road, much to the Wife’s protest. Parking musical chairs had started! As quick as cars left, they were replaced. Even a giant horse box wanted to play. Those of us who didn’t take part, were the winners. The loser was the driver of the SUV who reversed into the barrier and dented their car(not a hasher). So off we went, following a familiar route but it changes thanks to the seasons, the colours were beautiful. The view over the Exe estuary was stunning as the air was so clear. Winding through the woods off a long short spilt, the longs eventually rejoined the shorts. 3 of us on the longs, Captain Peacock, Humpty Dumpty and myself had a chat about the 10 tors that HD was training for. We crossed the road and passed shorts. Daddy daycare was in full effect, Boots was wrangling Misschief and Wreaking Ball, Spocky looking after X-Bitz’s kids. Tit-Bitz and Tight were deep in conversation, Mad Max, Odd and Wobbly Bitz were enjoying the autumn colours. After persuading CP to run through the puddles, we came to a last puddle before the sweetie stop. At the sides, 2 kids telling their Mum that they wanted to run through the puddle. Little did we know this was a Hasher who was late, the kids did jump in and Cheerio for the beerio joined us. Happy Snapper took obligatory photo. After the ss we had 1 more long short split back to the car park. Beers and crisps were had. Chats all around and we departed. 10 degrees of separation ——————————————————— Although everyone was melting from the humid, sticky weather at sea level, Widecombe was a little moor chilled!! Ha, see what I did there?! We gathered in the rather colder car park to the Ruddlestone Inn, one of my favourite pubs in the world. We were told it was 6 miles but that turned into 6.6, and that’s Dartmoor miles if you know what I mean. Lovely views, lots of green, lots of animals and lots of up. Today, I ran the first edition of Kannur Monsoon Marathon. I ran 21km (the distance was short, actual was 19.56 according to my watch) and finished it in under 1:50. It was great to take part in a race that took place in my hometown. I had to come to my hometown for some work and found out that there is a race this Sunday. So I quickly signed up for it. The route was half way out and back. The first half of the run went pretty well for me. When I took the u-turn, I realised that the distance was short as it was showing a little above 9.7km on my watch. Then came the challenging part. The hills. The first one itself took the wind out of me but I somehow managed to run it up without stopping or walking. The second one was even tougher. This is the one I do my long runs on when I'm in my hometown. While I do all my long runs on nose breathing, this is one area that I have to resort to mouth breathing as it was just not possible for me to climb that on nose breathing. Combine that with not much training, I had to walk up this one. From there on my pace dropped by around 50 seconds per km. I tried to maintain a steady pace and not let it drop more. As I approached the finish line, I could push. I was tired. I haven't been doing my strength training and it showed today during the race. Now I need to focus more on that. I'm happy to have finished the race and it was really great to participate in it as it was in my hometown. It was amazing to see so many participants. Glad to know that so many are into fitness now. Shameless selfie ——————————————————— We were asked to take photos of ourselves in the woods they the local community has managed to purchase so they can prove they get used for a multitude of different reasons. So hence my ugly mug. Warning rant coming. However there is a more pressing plan to build a landfill site of approximately 1.2 million cu.m and a waste recycling facility on the fields in photo 3. The objections can be found on Devon county councils website or in my bio. Of course there could be an underlying plan if that get rejected they can build homes, either way not good for the local community and the local wildlife. We need to change what we do! We should be talking about refusing, reducing, reusing and recycling rather than the later 3. We need to refuse to buy more polluting packing and food. Bridging the gap ——————————————————— My turn to lay the trail last night but I only finished work at 1800 and the run starts at 1930, so I had to get a wriggle on. Up until this point it was urban, easy under foot. The next mile was the muddiest I could find. Even though we have had little rain the trail back followed the river and is under tree cover so never really drys out. Real good fun. I managed to get back to the start just before everyone went off then do it all again.
