The Battles of Kawanakajima were fought in the Sengoku period of Japan between bitter rivals Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin. Seu pet é um pombo fantasma chamado Clank. 🕊️👻 Me baseei no estilo avant apocalypse pra criar o visual dele, na minha concepção seria a versão humana de um telefone público detonado. The Japanese legend of "Ubauguchi Jinsei" offers a profound reflection on the complexities of human existence and the consequences of our actions. It invites contemplation on the interplay between fate and personal agency, as individuals navigate the consequences of their past deeds in their present form. Moreover, the notion that physical appearance may carry echoes of past lives adds an additional layer of mystery to the concept of reincarnation, sparking curiosity about the unseen forces that shape our destinies across the vast expanse of time. Through this legend, Japanese folklore invites us to ponder the timeless questions of identity, morality, and the enduring legacy of our actions throughout the ages. " INARI OKAMI " According to Japanese Mythology, Inari Okami is associated with rice, agriculture, tea, prosperity, fertility, and smithing. She is also associated with kitsune or foxes. Helpful kitsune are considered her true servants, and they act as Inari’s messengers and protectors. Inari is an incredibly popular deity who has more shrines dedicated to them than any other kami(deity) in Japan. This is largely because Inari’s many attributes have given the deity great significance to Japanese society and evolved with it over time. According to the myth, Inari was said to have come to Japan at the time of its creation amidst a harsh famine that struck the land. She was said to have descended from heaven riding on a white fox, and in her hand she carried sheaves of grain. Inari has been depicted both as female and as male. The most popular representations of Inari is a young female food goddess. According to a legend, Inari was first worshipped on Mount Inari where by a man called Hata no Irogu. One day Irogu was practising his archery skills using sticky rice cakes (mochi) as targets. One shot hit directly through a cake which then magically transformed into a white dove. Irogu followed the flight of the bird which eventually landed on a peak of Mt. Inari called Mitsumine, and there he found rice growing and so began the worship of Inari as a spirit. Legend has it that she was a woman who, in life, suffered a terrible injury that split her mouth from ear to ear, or was killed in a similar gruesome manner by an unfortunate suitor. After death or the terrible incident, the woman returned as a vengeful spirit. According to the legend, the Kuchisake-onna wears a mask to cover her horrific deformity. It is said that she wanders the streets, especially at night, and approaches passersby, asking them a devious question: "Do you think I'm beautiful?" The victim's answer can determine their fate: if they answer no, they are brutally killed by the Kuchisake-onna; if they answer yes, she reveals her slit mouth and asks again if she is beautiful before killing them. Some versions of the legend suggest that if the victim answers evasively, the Kuchisake-onna might become distracted enough to allow them to escape. This legend has ancient roots but has been revisited and reinterpreted over the centuries, becoming an integral part of Japanese popular culture. The Kuchisake-onna has become an iconic figure in horror imagery, appearing in films, books, and other media, continuing to terrorize the minds of anyone who hears her story.

Japanese art has a rich history intertwined with the cultural significance of cats, showcasing their depiction in various mediums such as paintings, woodblock prints, ceramics, and even literature. Cats, known as "neko" in Japanese, hold a special place in Japanese folklore and tradition, often symbolizing good luck, prosperity, and protection against evil spirits. One of the most famous representations of cats in Japanese art is the "Maneki-neko" or beckoning cat, typically depicted with one paw raised, inviting good fortune and wealth. Artists like Utagawa Kuniyoshi and Katsushika Hokusai immortalized cats in their ukiyo-e prints, capturing their playful antics and serene beauty. Cats also appear in traditional Japanese stories like "The Cat Returns" and "The Tale of Ise," further cementing their significance in Japanese culture. Today, Japanese art continues to celebrate feline companionship, with contemporary artists incorporating cats into manga, anime, and modern art, reflecting the enduring charm and allure of these beloved creatures. #JapaneseArt #CatCulture #ManekiNeko #NekoArt #UkiyoE #JapaneseFolklore #CatLovers #TraditionalArt #ContemporaryArt #JapaneseCats #ArtHistory #CulturalHeritage #FelineInspiration #ArtisticExpression #JapaneseMasters #CatAppreciation #InstaArt #ArtIsLife

Tamamo-no-Mae (玉藻前, 玉藻の前) The fox stayed quiet for some period. Then she appeared in Japan as Tamamo-no-Mae, the most favoured courtesan of Emperor Toba. She was said to be a most beautiful and intelligent woman, being able to answer any question asked. She caused the Emperor to be extremely ill and was eventually exposed as a fox spirit by the astrologer Abe no Yasuchika, who had been called to diagnose the cause of the Emperor's poor health. A few years later, the emperor sent Kazusa-no-suke (上総介) and Miura-no-suke (三浦介) to kill the fox in the plains of Nasu. Additionally, with the use of anthropomorphic creatures like foxes, crows, snakes, and black cats, the personal narrative is a means to connect with the world at large. Through the use of these ethereal protagonists, I explore the cyclical nature of life and death, the masks we wear for ourselves and others, and the ways love and loss inspire our own transformations. These anthropomorphic creatures are symbolized as familiars in my narrative. Familiars protect us, they are a part of who we essentially are, give us strength, and can help lead us to our ways. Sometimes they can be mischievous too. And throughout history, the creatures that I have portrayed have all had mystical qualities from shapeshifting, guiding the gods, to being gods themselves. The “Fox Coven” is a continued narrative from my last drawing, “Fox Procession.” Foxes are known to transform themselves into humans and to sacrifice themselves for the humans they fall in love with. The kitsune oni - fox demoness, convenes with her fox familiars, conjuring magic in the night in the fox flame lights. #stephanieinagaki #coprogallery #beautifulbizarremagazine #beautifulbizarre #charcoaldrawing #fineartdrawing #panpastel #goldfoil #foxesofinstagram #foxes #foxcoven #coven #kitsune #kitsuneebi #foxfire #fableandfolklore #folklore #japanesemythology #japanesefolklore #butoh #kimono #darkart #darkartists #darkaesthetic #magick

Tamamo-no-Mae (玉藻前, 玉藻の前) In the story told by Hokusai, formed in the Edo period, the nine-tailed fox first appeared in China and possessed Daji, a concubine of the Shang dynasty's last ruler King Zhou. She enchanted the king and brought on a reign of terror that led to a rebellion that ended the Shang dynasty. The fox spirit fled to Magadha of Tianzhu (ancient India) and became Lady Kayō (華陽夫人), concubine of the crown prince Banzoku (班足太子; based on Indian tales of Kalmashapada the man-eater), causing him to cut off the heads of a thousand men. It was then defeated again, and fled the country. The same fox returned to China around 780 BC and was said to have possessed Bao Si, a concubine of the Zhou dynasty King You. It was again chased away by human military forces. Entrada de la semana: Jatai. Más información en el blog (enlace en bio). El jatai es el yokai en el que se convierten los "obi" que usan las mujeres para atar sus kimonos cuando han absorbido las energías negativas, celos y rencores de sus dueñas. Ashinaga and Tenaga - the restoration of these two mythical Japanese-folklore sculptures, carved entirely from wood, was my initiation into the world of Heritage Conservation. Dating back to the Meiji period, the story behind these fascinating sculptures really made an impression on me: Legend has it that the Yokai pair, (supernatural spirits and beasts in Japanese folklore) come from two different countries. One where all the inhabitants have unusually long arms, and the other where all the residents have elongated legs.In Japanese legend, both Ashinaga and Tenaga live near the sea and they team up to create a formidable fishing partnership. Ashinaga, with his long legs, wades into the deep waters carrying his partner on his shoulders. When they spot a fish under the surface, Tenaga leans forward using his long arms to scoop up their catch. “This is the meaning of the story: it teaches us that we must work together to achieve our goals and dreams. We might look different, but everybody has something unique to give. We all have different strengths but things are best when we use these differences to work together.” - Page, K. These sculptures represent characters from one of the most famous stories in Japanese folklore; Benkei and Yoshitsune. Benkei, a warrior monk was instructed by a famous swordsmith that he must collect 1000 swords to forge armor for himself. Benkei would approach anyone with a sword and take it by force by challenging them to a fight. He collected all but for his last sword, he encountered an 18 yrs. old Yoshitsune. The young Yoshitsune’s agility and jumping skills secured his victory over Benkei. Upon Benkei’s defeat, Yoshitsune offered him to pledge his allegiance and serve him till eternity, to which Benkei agreed. Though their first encounter was violent, they became loyal partners in future. #SalarJungMuseum #JapaneseFolklore #Benkei
