Had a couple of good day riding last week. Went up Monday hoping to catch the partial eclipse. Can't really see it from the pictures but got some quick glimpses through the clouds. Wednesday was a nice spring day. Although Palmer was closed for storm recovery, had fun in one of my favorite playgrounds at Timberline (well out of bounds near Timberline anyway). If conditions are safe enough, it often had decent snow and good drops. Found a really fun feature where you had a 10-15 foot drop then could immediately ride and launch off a spine (2nd pic). Got a couple of fun spring shred days in last week. It was quite the adventure, to say the least. Started Monday bussing to Timberline, but it was so windy the upper lifts were closed. Since conditions were better at Meadows, I rode down to Govy and then hitchhiked my way to Meadows. Had a fun day. On the ride back, I left my helmet in the car of the person giving me a ride back. Luckily, he was chill, and we had talked about riding and/or climbing together sometime, so we just happened to exchange numbers. I was able to get ahold of him, and since he worked at Meadows, he would bring my helmet on Tuesday. So, since it worked so well and is way cheaper than gas, I bussed to Govy and hitched my way back to Meadows to pick up my helmet and shred again. Super Bowl was amazingly open again, so I mare the hike to earn some turns. It got super sticky at about 1, so I then hitched back to Govy and caught the Timberline shuttle in time to get a run on Palmer before bussing home. Columba. . . I found this nest today underneath of a tent in my yard that had been up since January. It's very neat, was made just under the edge of the tent; expertly crafted with grasses and fur from my own two dogs that I leave out for the birds. It reminds me of the connections we all share as living beings on this earth; and I wonder how many other birds out there have made their homes out of materials I've provided. 📬🏔️Attempting Mailbox Peak, Snoqualmie, Washington🏔️📬 THIS is a hike we under estimated. Usually we are tolerable, and can get through most grueling hikes, but this was the time we had to turn back. The main trail is 1.6 miles, but is notoriously steep and treacherous. We opted for the longer 10 mile trail. This takes an average of 7h to complete.. We definitely should’ve arrived earlier! We’ve gained much more experience since then so I’m sure we could complete it now if we returned. We got to the trailhead at noon, and when the sun started going down, and we heard from other hikers snow would be up ahead we turned back around😂Absolutely beautiful hike though. Can you check where it was?" USGS colleagues in Golden tell Mullineaux it's miles away from the volcano. Wanting a clearer picture of the situation, the Univ. of Washington #seismology lab students and staff crisscross St. Helens installing portable seismometers. Given the 5’ snow cover at Spirit Lake, they put one in the only clear spot available: inside the Forest Service campground outhouse. St. Helens continues to quake overnight into the 21st, with the number of overall events increasing compared to yesterday. Here's a few shots from the summit of Tumalo Mountain the other morning. On Thursday(3/14), I set out at 4am to hike/snowshoe Tumalo Mtn. for sunrise and it was an absolutely incredible experience! I started out in the pitch black of night with just the stars and moon and ended on the summit with gorgeous sunrise colors and views! The first and second pictures are of Mt Bachelor, third is the Three Sisters, fourth is Brokten Top, and then a few extra.
