Jim Thorpe Half Marathon!!🚂🏃🏃♀️🛤 It was an out & back course that winds through the beautiful Lehigh Valley Gorge. This was my first race back from injury, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I aimed for 7:30/mi and ended up right there with a strong kick over the final mile! I finished 6th F in 1:38:17 and took 2nd place in the women's master category.🥈 Ben had an amazing day (after a tough week on-call) finishing 6th OA and 1st place masters in a new personal best of 1:27:31!!🔥 Special shoutout to Sam Palmer for her new PR and for encouraging our whole crew to run Jim Thorpe!! Completed my first half marathon today and had fun doing it. It was a real challenge but it was worth the pain. Challenge yourself and commit to one, you will not be disappointed. Also had a blast doing it with 2 other guys from the office. Jason initiated it one day and it started from there. Thanks for the challenging commitment Jason. This is a post I was hoping I wouldn’t have to make, but after a lot of consideration, I’m deferring my #JimThorpeHalfMarathon entry to next year. My training cycle started out really well. Unfortunately three weeks ago I came down with an awful cold (it was likely more serious than that, but I never made it to the doctor 😬). I had a hacking cough that burned my chest, and it looked like Slimer was coming out of my nose every time I blew it, which was constantly (sorry!). I haven’t been able to run this entire time. I did manage one treadmill run last week, but anytime I’m outdoors, my nose begins running again and my coughing starts. I’m definitely on the mend, but I’m no shape to train. Missing over two weeks of training in addition to the week we’re away for Spring Break is just too much. I know I can finish the half, but it wouldn’t be my best effort. After such a great half in Philly, I want to continue racing, and not just running to run. I’m going to take this time to get better, run some smaller races, and get back in the saddle for a fall half. 😢😢😢😢😢 To add a little humor to this, when I told my family I had to make a difficult personal decision, my 10 year old daughter quickly replied with - You’re joining a cult?!?!? Yo. So I ran on the treadmill today because there were like 20 mph winds and I wasn’t about to get blown away or have a tree land on my noggin. I get to the Y, put my hair up to go in a suitable ponytail, and realize I have no hair tie 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ I ask the front desk if they happen to have a stash of them anywhere, to no avail. I say screw it, I have to get this run in today. I get to the treadmills, and there are chicks at every one. One of them HAS to have an extra hair tie, right?!!!? Wrong ☹️ I have to run 1 mile with my hair down, and I’m sweating like a pig. I realize maybe I can braid it and it will stay in place. Works great. Then I go to skip commercials on the Conan podcast when I accidentally pull the emergency stop cord thing. My run immediately ends. 🤦🏻♀️ I pause my watch, set up another run on the treadmill to complete my miles and as soon as I begin running again, my braid falls out. I was doing a 1 mile warmup at 10:30 or so, 2 miles at 9:30 and a cool down at 10:45. None of this looks like that though 🤷🏻♀️

Repost because the official photos came through! 2nd half marathon was grueling, but still rewarding! Today was just not in my favor so I turned my focus to a mental win versus a race PR about 2-3 miles in. Within minutes I was soaked from deep mud puddles, sliding in almost what felt like quick sand, hip started bleeding out of nowhere, rain kept coming down, wind started to pick up and I could feel the blisters developing…BUT I kept trudging! I still remained within 3-4 minutes off of my PR so I wasn’t that far off so pretty happy with that and I definitely made big progress mentally by pushing myself to complete it despite all the conditions. After a few days of rest I’ll be reverting to some speed training and building up a better foundation as I have some shorter races to look forward to and will revisit the half marathon in 4 months #jimthorpehalfmarathon #runjimthorpe #halfmarathon #runner #hwmf #strongwomen #run #girlswhoworkout

I ran my first deferred race from last year this morning, the Jim Thorpe half marathon. Not a great race today and probably my worst half. Several things went wrong, and there were so many times I thought about dropping out which I never have that mentality. I just wasn't all there today. I'm not going to make excuses though. Sometimes you need to readjust your plan and mine ended up being just making it to the finish at that point. Although, I guess it wasn't entirely awful because I ended up finishing as 4th overall female, and I placed first in the masters division so I'll take it. It just hurts a little when you have an off day and don't meet a time goal but all you can do is shake it off, regroup, and focus on what's ahead. Regardless, I had to do this distance for a training run, and it was a beautiful day to be out & active. I met some cool new runner friends too which is always fun.

I don't have words to express how thankful I am for the people in my life. Thank you so much for the support and for the awesome messages during my run yesterday! Your messages gave me strength, made me laugh, and kept me company for two and a half hours. I just want to say thank you to all of you! I'm so blessed to have such amazing friends and family! ❤️💕 BTW, Paul was blown away by how early some of you wake up on a weekend! 🤣 #teacherfriends (We don't have kids -- he's spoiled!) It was a good run -- I PR'd by five minutes and averaged 30 seconds faster per mile than I was planning going into it. I wasn't fast and plenty of people passed me, but I didn't waiver. I felt really strong the entire time and was able to really go for it during the last two miles. And I can't say enough how wonderful my husband is. @paul.reilly.1976 woke up super early, made the almost one-hour drive to the race site, and sat in the car waiting for me for over two hours, sending me texts along the way to help keep me motivated. And let's not forget his sacrifice of sharing a pint of Ben & Jerry's Netflix and Chilled ice cream with me to celebrate. He's a trooper, that guy. I am one lucky woman! 😄😉 Thank you all! #throwbackthursday Pics from last Saturday's trail half.. Photo 1 is true proof only my husband can make me genuinly smile when I am struggling.. This was around mile 8.. i didn't see him at first, but i heard him yell "Babe!" & i looked over & waved to him.. i mumbled "i feel like quitting".. he said "Noooo don't do that!".. so off i went.. Started this race thinking not going for a PR so what am I doing this for??? Fun?!?! It was ALL trail except for 2 miles or so of steep downhill pothole riddled road. Signs everywhere on the course read: Caution! Uneven Trail And it most certainly was that plus very muddy. Again I asked myself what am I doing this for??? It was probably around mile 4 that I realized, Hey, I am actually having fun!!! Then I saw my family at mile 6 and again at mile 8. It gave me a second wind and I felt awesome!!! Not once did I feel like I needed to stop. However, my playlist stopped around mile 12 and I didn't even care. I was enjoying the beautiful scenery and soaking up every single minute of a wonderful RUN (while making sure not to trip or fall). Before I knew it I was at mile 13 with the finish line in sight. I finished strong and felt like a badass because I totally went out of my comfort zone and conquered a tough Trail Half Marathon. Half Marathon #9 in the books...although according to mine and everyone else's GPS it was 13.5 not 13.1 miles 😂 No post race Runfie because honestly I was waaay to cold once I stopped. LOL This was not my best Half time wise. In fact it has moved into top position for my worst time. This was however the strongest I have EVER felt during a Half Marathon. It was all trail which is not my ideal race and after doing a 5k trail run yesterday, 5 miles on Friday morning, and lack of sleep Thursday my body was beat. My legs hurt, my feet throbbed but still I ran. I ran with all I had and I ran with a smile on my face. There is no quit in this Runner Girl and that's what makes me proud of this RUN.
