Every single church I attended throughout my childhood and young adult years thought they had cornered the market on religion. 📜🕵🏻♂️ They thought their interpretation of the Bible and how it should be applied to people’s lives was “right” and, somehow, all the other denominations and religions of the world got it wrong. While I was taught that other protestant denominations were merely “misguided” in some of their biblical interpretations, I grew up believing that other religious faiths such as Catholics, Muslims, Jews, etc were absolutely going to hell 🔥 Once I got to college and away from this cultish, exclusionary thinking, I began to realize how ludicrous it was to think that my tiny 50 person church in central PA was the only faith structure in the world that truly got it “right.” ⚠️ This type of exclusionary thinking and us vs them mentality is always, always harmful. It is certainly well written, and for the most part reads like a psychological thriller with a good dose of adrenaline. The two main characters enjoy quite a bit of psychological insight and the dynamics between them are quite clear. Right from the start one can sense how disturbed Kim is and how disingenuous Jamie is in wanting to overcome a certain form of inferiority complex by making himself more of a character than a person. If the author had limited herself to working with these details, she would have built a great thriller, but instead she wanted to cram in Aztecs, suicide cults, various nightmares, and this makes the reader occasionally find herself thrown out of that blissful state that is suspension of disbelief and say, "Did you really want to squeeze that in too?"

Los protagonistas como tal son dos hermanos que formaban parte de secta peculiar que posee términos y actividades extrañas como jalar una soga que cae del cielo de la nada, remar en un lago que oculta algo o usar eufemismos. Uno de los dos hermanos como tal solo quiere volver a la secta, no tiene ni malos recuerdos de esta de forma que busca convencer a su hermano de regresar, en ambos podemos notar dos tipos de actitudes las de la típica persona influenciable y el que una vez conoce la verdad niega todo lazo con la mentira que vivió, buscando desacreditarlos continuamente. La Secta tiene de nombre Campamento Arcadia, parece una comunidad de gente que opta por una vida simple en el aire libre. Los miembros de la secta estan en un rango entre locos y gente que parece actuar normal, pero igual son acérrimos creyentes de todo lo que sucede allí. Como tal la pelicula mantiene momentos de tension muy bien planificados, incluso la musica es perfecta para seguir el vilo de misterio de lo que sucede en la historia. I recently finished this book UNCULTURED by Daniella Mestyanek Young. It’s a memoir of this incredible woman’s journey as she defies all the odds, surviving and escaping a cult and later becoming an intelligence officer in the US army. It resonated with me a lot in my experiences growing up in a cult. It also brought light to what it’s like to be a woman in the military and how the military is a cult in itself. I would urge everyone to buy and read this book. It’s a difficult story and it took me a lot of tears to get through. But if the world is ever going to change, we need to get out of our comfort zone and open our eyes to what’s wrong with it. #uncultured #childrenofgod #cults

…. Where do I begin? Soo…I loved this. I had literal chills towards the end of the book (IYKYK), and I don’t get chilled often. Spooked? Yes. Goosebumps & chills? No. I’m having a hard time knowing how to start this review, because it was nothing like I have read before. That’s saying something when it comes to horror. . Were there times I wished the book would have progressed a little faster, sure, but it was a fast listen. I don’t have much to critique, because it delivered. Overall this book gave me what I needed. It gave: 🩸 Creepy Michigan isolated island 🩸 Local lore 🩸A misty, dark, lake smelling aesthetic 🩸Creepy dead things 🩸Creepy children 🩸Creepy small-town 🩸Culty charm 🩸Disappearances 🩸VHS/90s nostalgia. Oh! And our lead male character is from Indiana! I KNOW! Not only Indiana, but the book mentions Noblesville!!!! 🤯 It’s a bloody ride y’all! (I’m from Indiana!!!) . Seriously, just go listen to it.
