Hi guys…just checking in…I’ve had a few new followers, so just a reminder that I’m currently taking some time away from here whilst caring for my dying mum ❤️ I’m not logging my daily activities atm but just to give you an insight, out of the last seven days…five of them I’ve spent at Mums. My ‘role’ has changed from care co-ordinator to ‘NHS co-ordinator’ 🙄 as always seems to be the case, so much of my time is being spent chasing up things that haven’t been done and passing information between the GP, District Nurses,Paramedics, Pharmacy etc…you really cannot believe that these people share one system 🤯 I was at mums for 12 hours yesterday and the majority of my time was spent on the phone or dealing with various medics that turned up. Mum herself is transitioning towards the EOL stage. She’s hardly eaten anything for three weeks now, she’s sleeping a lot and has totally lost the use of her legs and has no strength left in her arms. Her dementia and confusion has increased too. Long Covid wise, I’m ok…it’s very much like when I went through this with my dad. I’m prioritising sleep (thank you nytol), eating as well as I can without doing any major cooking, resting when I can and everything else in life is on hold. This could potentially go on for weeks, no one can say what will happen. So I’ll keep checking in when I can and as always thanks for the lovely messages, they mean a lot. Everything that’s gone wrong for the past 23 years, I’ve blamed on transplant drugs. It seemed a safe place to store my complaints. Now that I’m older, I can’t do that. My health issues are likely due to advanced age. This is a really good thing. I never expected to live this long. Truthfully, I rarely gave it a lot of thought, trying always to live in the moment, appreciating the Gift of Life. Everything seems to not only becoming more painful but all the great moments, like the Christmas season, seem to be passing more quickly than ever. There are many benefits to getting old, like grandchildren. I’m not sure if it’s wisdom or experience, but we share an over-whelming desire for peace. My husband & I chose to retire near our children so we could be part of their daily lives. I want them to remember me. Relationships mean more with each passing year. We’ve forgiven ourselves & others who disappointed us. People hold the door for you. Wait staff serve you first. Strangers help me up & down steps. My transplant doctor is now my friend. I’ve whittled down the organizations to whom I devote my time & attention. My goal is to leave the world a better place. Truthfully, blame is an unhealthy & terrible place to live. I understand grief; our hearts go out to those who didn’t survive long enough to receive a transplant. I can name the children who I never met and their parents who I’ve met over the years and whose stories appear on our website as victims of the disease. It’s simply heartbreaking. Through the efforts of the Myocarditis Foundation’s advocacy, research, support & education programs, we know a lot more about myocarditis than we did 20 years ago. “Myocarditis” is now part of mainstream vocabulary. Maybe one of the first measures of success will be that transplanted myocarditis patients live to old age. Another will be more treatment & diagnostic options; catching the disease early, getting those affected in the hands of doctors who know how to treat it, and initiating treatment early enough that the heart can be preserved.
