Completed the 1000 Steps. It was hard for me. The boyfriend however, completed it in thongs and found it easy. It started raining heavily halfway up and my legs turned to jelly on the way down. #1000StepsDandenong #1000StepsMelbourne #Ferns #Nature #OneFootInFrontOfAnother #Walking #Victoria #FerntreeGully #ThatWasAGoodSleep

We really shouldnā€™t be too quick to write ourselves or other people off. Donā€™t be too easily discouraged or deterred. For many of us, in the right environment or the ā€œrightā€ season, we thrive, we excel, we see, do & achieve more than we thought possible. Life is a marathon. Lots of ebbs and flows, but we count IT ALL a blessing because God is consistent and He is always Good. And as my baby Neo likes to remind me ā€œslow and steady does it mom, slow and steadyā€. I love God, I love my family, I love my friends, I appreciate my life. #Next #OneFootInFrontOfAnother #KeepMoving

August 10, 2024. The Finish Line! 472.0 - 486.5 Miles: 14.5 Ascent: 1774 | Descent: 3331 Sleep: Tent Mood: šŸ„³šŸ„³šŸ„³ Last day! Knee hurts. Happy to finish! Slept pretty good the last night on trail knowing in just 14.5 miles Iā€™d be a Colorado Trail Thru Hiker! This part of the trail was, you can assume, beautiful, like all the rest of the trail! The four of us enjoyed a little celebration, hoping our cans and bottles would explode with enthusiasm. But no, they just foamed. Maybe it is the elevation! We went into Durango and made the rounds to businesses who offer free or discounted food, drink and goodies to trail completers. This included some amazing hand made chocolate, beer and patches from the Colorado Trail Foundation. The next day we enjoyed a good breakfast and celebrated in the evening with other hikers we met along the way. šŸ˜³. . . . . #getoutside #exploremore #womenhikersover55 #shewanders #thereshegoesagain #milestogo #outsideadventures #coloradotrail2023 #thruhiking #at2022 #atthruhike2022 #onefootinfrontofanother #mentalhealth #backpacker #coloradotrail #womenwhohike #longdistancehiking #icandohardthings

August 9, 2023. Miles 449-472 End of Segment 27 into 28 Today I woke up early and watched the sunrise from a beautiful Overlook. I had a happy feeling all day, knowing the trail is about finished! Around noon, I walked Indian Trail Ridge, a narrow ridge covered with loose rocks, reminding me of what ā€œknifeā€™s edgeā€ on the Appalachian Trail might be like. (Yes, I skipped Knifeā€™s Edge!) Around 1:00, we met up with Mike and had a relaxing lunch at Taylor Lake complete with cold LaCroixs! The trail continued along a beautiful flowery path, and then started up onto a narrow ridge of Kennebec Pass with variety of rocks on the trail. I love rocks and the changes of color and size throughout the day! Mike was supposed to meet up with another hiker and give her some equipment she needed, but somehow they missed each other. Ended the day at Junction Creek! The trail is coming to an end. Just one more day! . . . . #getoutside #exploremore #womenhikersover55 #shewanders #thereshegoesagain #milestogo #outsideadventures #coloradotrail2023 #thruhiking #at2022 #atthruhike2022 #onefootinfrontofanother #mentalhealth #backpacker #coloradotrail #womenwhohike #longdistancehiking #icandohardthings #taylorlake

August 7, 2023 Miles 413-430.2 miles! Segment 25 This day was fun. I hiked with various peopleā€”Shades and Zero. Also, there was a group of bikers who would pass me and then Iā€™d pass them. You can see them at a distance in the flower picture! At one point, I saw these bikes laying down on the ground, and I thought, whereā€™s the people for these? Around the next corner, I discovered a bunch of people laying downā€” looking like they were dead. They were just exhausted! It was pretty funny! One of them was from the same area I grew up in California! Rare! Dont forget to listen to the sheep making lots of noise! So cute! The trail was again full of stark white lime steams and colorful red streams. I stopped at the redbeds stream, waded in and enjoyed a few minutes of cool water on my tired feet. Later at Cascade bridge and stream that would have made a lovely campsite, but on I walked to make it a good long day. I camped with Wolf Slayer by Celebration Lake which was full of salamanders! At the end of this day, my knee was hurting! Obviously, I was tired after hiking 20 miles! . . . . #getoutside #exploremore #womenhikersover55 #shewanders #thereshegoesagain #milestogo #outsideadventures #coloradotrail2023 #thruhiking #at2022 #atthruhike2022 #onefootinfrontofanother #mentalhealth #backpacker #coloradotrail #womenwhohike #longdistancehiking #icandohardthings

August 6th. I have an annoying need to finish what I started. So letā€™s get this posting of the last days on the Colorado Trail done, so I can move onto my next adventure! Views of Elk Park, the Animas River and Mt Garfield are incredible. The weather was warm but with a slight breeze. I passed a sign that said there was a train station below, but I thought it was old. Turns out, it is a real station and a few hikers that passed me, hopped on the train to get to Silverton way ahead of us! I hiked into the quaint trail town of Silverton Colorado where the Silverton Narrow Gauge train passes through. A pleasant 12.8 miles day after hitting the 400 mile mark. . . . . #getoutside #exploremore #womenhikersover55 #shewanders #thereshegoesagain #milestogo #outsideadventures #coloradotrail2023 #thruhiking #at2022 #atthruhike2022 #onefootinfrontofanother #mentalhealth #backpacker #coloradotrail #womenwhohike #longdistancehiking #icandohardthings

August 5, 2023. Ended: Near Elk Creek - 400.2 Miles: 17.2 This unique section of the trail started from an amazing field, surrounded by incredible mountains. (My descriptions sound like Iā€™m having hallucinations!) Towards the end of the day, I walked down a long, steep section of switchbacks. I had fun and was also nervous! At the bottom there was a beautiful stream flowing . Next, a walk along a treacherous path close to a rock wall. I was looking forward to hitting 400 miles, but it took forever to get there. Also, today, I went about a quarter-mile out of my way down the Continental Divide trail. Good thing I looked at the FarOut app or I wouldā€™ve gone farther. I would say, this is my favorite section of the trail. I was looking forward to it because our Trail friend, Bank Robber volunteered on this section and talked about how many trees they cut down. This made me laugh when I came to a huge section of down trees. My goal was to reach my hiking friends, but by the time I hit the 400 mile mark, that was ā€œjust around the cornerā€, I just wanted to stop for the day. So I found a little spot made just for me. I hiked back up the trail and walked through another personā€™s campsite and she directed me where to find water. I had to climb down a difficult cliff to get to the water, perhaps Elk Creek, looked incredible. If it was earlier in the day I wouldā€™ve gotten in. Only 89 miles to go. In the next town we get to Silverton. . . . #getoutside #exploremore #womenhikersover55 #shewanders #thereshegoesagain #milestogo #outsideadventures #coloradotrail2023 #thruhiking #at2022 #atthruhike2022 #onefootinfrontofanother #mentalhealth #backpacker #coloradotrail #womenwhohike #longdistancehiking #icandohardthings #elkcreekcolorado #silvertoncolorado

August 3 and 4. A beautiful sunset to begin the day and continuous views throughout. Miles 367.4-383.0 Today is another incredible day hiking on the Colorado Trail. I woke up late, around 6:10. I ended up being the last one at camp. I really havenā€™t seen anyone all day except for Kai and Sarah. Throughout the day I had to alternate between my coat, sweatshirt, then everything off! Had to stop several times because the vertical climb is just difficult. Thereā€™s been lots of snow on the trail. Is it gathering day? Marmots and Pikas were abundant! A little pika ran across the trail with a load of flowers in its mouth. So adorable. I hit the highest point on trail, 13,271 ft! Wolf Slayer and Shades found a great place to camp for the night, a huge flat area with mountain (surprise) views all around. . . . . #getoutside #exploremore #womenhikersover55 #shewanders #thereshegoesagain #milestogo #outsideadventures #coloradotrail2023 #thruhiking #at2022 #atthruhike2022 #onefootinfrontofanother #mentalhealth #backpacker #coloradotrail #womenwhohike #longdistancehiking #icandohardthings

August 1, 2023 An amazing stretch of trail. This day turned out to be one where the views were spectacular and climbs demanding. The sunrise was gorgeous and as promised a challenging hike to 12,878 ft San Luis peak. There I met ā€œBank Robberā€, someone who reminded me of a friendly old hippie (same age as me, lol.). A hello and a goodbye as he slowly hiked away. He said he was slow, something I scoff at, no one is as slow as I am! Later and not surprisingly, he caught up to me and we spent the rest of the afternoon chattering away, covering a variety of forbidden topics from politics, faith and religion and problems weā€™ve both encountered. While hiking, he pointed out interesting features of the segment, including the dead forest areas eaten by the mountain pine beetle. The trees have naturally overcome the beetle and are growing nicely. He called to the marmot and it stopped so I could take a photo! As we walked across the boulder field, I declared how this was like the AT! Rocks! We reached another high peak of the trail where I had to go behind him because I could barely breathe as the elevation rose and the trail became steep. We chatted away, pausing briefly to put on warm pants and rain gear as the winds picked up and the temperature dropped. Next thing I know it is hailing! Another thing one anticipates on the CT are the daily hail storms. (This was only the second one!) I was excited to finally be in a storm! Bank Robber, on the other hand was nervous due to a previous experience. The day ended when we finally reached a lake (called ā€œlakeā€ in FarOut) where all my favorite people set up camp. As frosting on the cake, Bank Robber had picked up my wash cloth I lost the day before. I picked up Shades data book and returned it to her and Wolf Slayerā€™s lost lip balm. . This day was obviously better than the day before when all I had to say was, I hiked 20 miles! . . . #getoutside #exploremore #womenhikersover55 #shewanders #thereshegoesagain #milestogo #outsideadventures #coloradotrail2023 #thruhiking #at2022 #atthruhike2022 #onefootinfrontofanother #mentalhealth #backpacker #coloradotrail #womenwhohike #longdistancehiking #icandohardthings

July 30, 2023 Miles 295.9-316.8! Today I had to push myself to get the miles done. Why was I doing this? One of those days I felt like throwing up my tent on rocks or a cliff! Wolf Slayer found a sweet field near a babbling, ice cold stream. It was a cold day so we ate and climbed in our tents. Pretty exhausted after a whopping 20 miles! Hit 300 miles on this day. Felt like a huge accomplishment because of the mountainous terrain. If this was the AT, Iā€™d still have 1894 miles to go! But yay, the number is just 189 miles! The mindset is completely different here! The reward for pushing the miles came the next day for me! . . . . #getoutside #exploremore #womenhikersover55 #shewanders #thereshegoesagain #milestogo #outsideadventures #coloradotrail2023 #thruhiking #at2022 #atthruhike2022 #onefootinfrontofanother #mentalhealth #backpacker #coloradotrail #womenwhohike #longdistancehiking #icandohardthings

July 28, 2023. This day was particularly difficult because the trail was filled with rocks, reminding me of the Appalachian trail. I slipped twice and tumbled another time. It made me so annoyed that I walked on the side of the trail instead of on the rocks for the rest of that portion. Another day where I said, itā€™s a good thing the views are so amazing! The wildflowers were on full display and it was a treat to see the sweet bird family (grouse or ptarmigans). . . . . #getoutside #exploremore #womenhikersover55 #shewanders #thereshegoesagain #milestogo #outsideadventures #coloradotrail2023 #thruhiking #at2022 #atthruhike2022 #onefootinfrontofanother #mentalhealth #backpacker #coloradotrail #womenwhohike #longdistancehiking #icandohardthings #segment26

'Do hard things' is definitely a catch phrase; a reminder for us that in order for us to reach our goals and lead the life we love we NEED to do the hard things!! Have that hard conversation so that boundaries are adhered to... Say no to the next glass of wine and have lemon water so your liver feels some love... Say sorry to your child after yelling at them in a stressed out moment so you can restore your relationship... Talk to your spouse about how their actions made you feel so you can clear the air and the hurt that may have been unintended so that resentment doesn't build up... Ask for a raise or look for a better job when you're not feeling challenged or valued enough where you are... And of course, for some of us who just had a hard night, or are struggling with ongoing deep fatigue or physical or emotional pain or sleepless and interrupted nights... And we just want to stay in bed...just getting up this morning was a HARD thing! I see you, I see how hard it is and it was hard for me too. Celebrate it, validate it, and acknowledge it. You did a hard thing and I'm proud of you today. July 24, 2023 This is how the day started with the morning sun reflecting the tree covered mountains on the smooth-as-glass pond. The day ended with delicious food from Deer Hammer Distillery in Buena Vista. An amazing sunset closed out the day. Earlier, Mike met Alex and me and asked if we wanted to head to town for food. Yes, of course! On the way, we ran into Kenny and asked if he wanted to forget his plans to hike all the way to Princeton and come with us to eat. Of course he said yes! July 23, 2023. Sporting my new Melanzana* sweatshirt I groveled for, I decided to jump over to the East Collegiate Trail. I didnā€™t quit, I just made a good decision for myself. No need to torture myself on this hike. Iā€™m here to see the beauty of Colorado Trail! I met Kenny who was hiking the Collegiate trail only. His pack was so heavy, he had a harder time then I did uphill! (Kenny, leave the chair at home next time!) I hurried along so I could camp with Wolf Slayer! We camped by a beautiful pond full of fish and Kenny made it to camp too! *Melanzana makes amazing lightweight sweatshirts in Colorado, and only allows you to shop by appointment. When I tried to make an appointment, the next one wasnā€™t until November. What a (smart) racket! Being a thru hiker, which I donā€™t think he believed me, a guy allowed me to look at their 3 ā€œvintageā€ sweatshirts! This one was the least ugly of the three. July 22, 2023 The start of the Collegiate West trail up to Hope Pass and down the other side. Today I said goodbye to Wolf Slayer. We were hoping to meet when I finished this side of the trail. The hike was just 12 miles, how hard could it be? Well, it was a day when the trail just kept going up, up and on and on. The temperatures were soaring. I could see the top of the pass, but it was just so far away. All day long, runners jaunted by me training for an upcoming run. It was a little annoying! šŸ˜‚ I loved the views and walking through the snow. Runners encouraged me as they were running back downā€¦ā€you are almost there, keep going!ā€ Finally, I reached the top of Hope Pass and the view took my breath away. Just what Iā€™d wanted, incredible views! Now for the two miles down the other side. How hard would it be? The heat combined with the steep and rocky terrain made it a challenge. Was I in Colorado or was I in Maine? By the end, I was exhausted. I knew Mike was meeting me soon. His ā€œLifepodā€ took a beating on the washboard road. Things were vibrating loose. James, a man I met while hiking up, also met Mike later and told him tomorrow was equally hard and I should go backwards on that section (hike north to south.) I had some hours to contemplate what to do. We camped at a campground with a shower and laundry facilities. Nothing like a good shower to refresh and renew the body! . . . . . #getoutside #exploremore #womenhikersover55 #shewanders #thereshegoesagain #milestogo #outsideadventures #coloradotrail2023 #thruhiking #at2022 #atthruhike2022 #onefootinfrontofanother #mentalhealth #backpacker #coloradotrail #womenwhohike #longdistancehiking #icandohardthings

July 21. Miles 173.4-180. Today started out pretty nice. I camped the night before by myselfā€¦making me a little nervous, but I woke up feeling like I was on vacation! Did a little stretching and then started the short walk to Twin Lakes. The last part of the trail was really dry and hot. By the time I arrived at Twin Lakes, I was ready for my first swim. The water felt ice cold, but absolutely what I needed! Camped with Wolf Slayer with an amazing lake view. Tomorrow, we will split upā€”I hike Collegiate West and WS hikes Collegiate East. July 20. Mile 156-173. Segment 11. Plenty of water in the trail so far. Headed toward Twin Lakes where the trail splits into Collegiate East and West. The first part of the trail was pretty easy. I actually did a water crossing and took my shoes off because I thought thatā€™s the way I had to go. It actually was the way the trail signs went, but it turns out that I could have used the bridge on my right! Oh well. Then elevation became pretty tough , I took a lot of breaks. But after a few miles all that ended and the trail got pretty mild. . . . #getoutside #exploremore #womenhikersover55 #shewanders #thereshegoesagain #milestogo #outsideadventures #coloradotrail2023 #thruhiking #at2022 #atthruhike2022 #onefootinfrontofanother #mentalhealth #backpacker #coloradotrail #womenwhohike #longdistancehiking #icandohardthings

July 18. Miles 132-145 Segment 8 and 9 Walked by a wonderful Cataract Falls. Reach Bench. I woke up around 1 am and did a time lapse of the stars ā€”which didnā€™t really come out too fantastic. Mike met me on trail, hiked with me a little then went off on his own bike ride. I met a CDT hiker along the way and I am so impressed! The CDT trail is almost 3000 miles long. From July 16. Holy Cross Wilderness. Hiked Segment 8 backwards 117.-103.7 Alex and I started Segment 8 around 7:15 and hiked northbound instead of south. So, instead of having a 10 mile uphill climb, we had a 4 mile uphill climb, and then a 10 mile descent! My lungs burned, causing me to frequently stop! I hadnā€™t quite acclimated to the elevation yet. The trail weaved up to a beautiful pass, then down, down, down. Went through a fire storm area. The weather was freezing cold in the morning and then hot and miserable in the afternoon! Later, we showered, ate dinner at Smashburger and then I enjoyed a gelato from Blue Moose. šŸ”šŸØ. . . . . . #getoutside #exploremore #womenhikersover55 #shewanders #thereshegoesagain #milestogo #outsideadventures #coloradotrail2023 #thruhiking #at2022 #atthruhike2022 #onefootinfrontofanother #mentalhealth #backpacker #coloradotrail #womenwhohike #longdistancehiking #icandohardthings

Today, I am grateful for dry, crackling lips, uneven camping spots, snoring neighbors and dirty fingernails. Iā€™m grateful for mornings where I remember I have time to talk to God because there isnā€™t anything else to do but walk this incredible land. The walk gives me time to think and pray for every friend and family member, remembering their struggles, troubles and excitement they are experiencing. I remember the friend who sends me beautiful music making my eyes water with joy. Iā€™m grateful for such a variety of people on this trail. Women who walk in long dresses, ones who are good at planning and bringing others together, the triple crowner out here doing what she loves, Bill who hikes with a limp and Sherman who is out hiking for the first time. I applaud the woman who decided she will hike because no one thinks the can! There are more too! Entering peak month on this current build and it didnā€™t disappoint. We had sleet, rain, wind and sun through out our run across the city. By 5k my socks/shoe were so wet I couldnā€™t care less if I landed my steps on a puddle. And the snow hit us so hard it hurt. Oh well. Signing up is the easy bit....To complete the East Devon Round is the ultimate. But you'll not do it unless you put your mind and body on the line.... (Slightly Doctored Jim Telfer speech pre 1997 Lions...) Here we have the complete list of East Devon Round 2022 Finishers....for the eagle eyed you might see Ben Arlett gets a mention twice....sorry Ben I may need to edit you out to only one mention... What do the colours mean? Blue is finished the race once Red is finished the race twice, and Purple is finished the race three times. Got the gear set up just in case I forgot something. One thing for sure will happen - it wil be a sweat fest out there with the temp being 22 c and humidity at the high 60s. The x-factor would be the cloud cover. It will help a great deal if the sun hides behind the clouds even just for an hour here and there. The legendary @deena8050 has a great quote on race day eve: ā€œThis is the time when we could reflect on how imperfect and flawed a marathon build up has been or we can focus on how much actually went correctly to be here. The marathon itself is an opportunity to express all that we are and all that the sport gives us permission to become. Strong. Resilient. Persistent. Brave. So, when the race gets challenging sooner than you might expect, say, ā€œI can handle it anyway." When fatigue starts to weight you down, say, "No worries, my goals will carry me." When body parts start to scream for attention, say "I hear you, but we're not done yet." If you're handed an effortless 26.2 miles, say, ā€œI'm so grateful for all the stars that aligned to make this moment happen." No matter the story, your perspective can make the experience the best version of who you are.ā€ Time for āļø #3. #chineseanabaptist #soulfarmer #soulrunner #lovetherun #berlinlegend #26point2 #runvan #runvancouver #runmotivtion #werunvan #seeyouatthestartline #marathonlaeufer #runnerofinstagram #laufen #marathonlaufen #instarunner #marathrontraining #abbotworldmarathonmajor #onefootinfrontofanother #TCSNYCMarathon

Medal Monday Race Day Recap: Itā€™s been a week since Chicago Full and I finally have time to let the euphoria (and post-race blues) settled. Part of me wants to capture this as much (and fast) as possible as I have another race coming up in a few weeks. I also know I canā€™t rush these reflective inklings and technical evaluations according to my schedule :-) ā€Ø In short I PBā€™d. Cut 25 min off my last full (where I bonked spectacularly) and almost an hour from last yearā€™s. But as with all races thereā€™s a lot more to it then just the time. The Second City definitely exceeded my expectations. I was joyously overwhelmed by the stentorian cheers during the entire #26point2 journey. Chicagoans are proud of their city/neighbourhoods and that was on full display. Race morning started with a chilly 40! Luckily I read up and got some warm throw away gear from Goodwill a couple days prior but the wind from Lake Michigan was no joke. 50,000 were at the start line and you canā€™t help but get excited about what is to come. I kinda wish they use Sirius as the start line song though. (Wouldnā€™t that be awesome and contextual?) ā€Øā€ØChicago downtown is known for us runners as the Bermuda triangle of GPS signals. I was warned long ago not to rely on the data on my watch but use my effort as a gauge to determine my pace. As expected my Garmin did screw up by 1km but what I didnā€™t expect was somehow it stopped! There goes my smart plan to look at my heart rate and cadence for guidance. I was lucky I caught it soon after so I could restart my ā€œworkoutā€ when scrambling to move forward with thousands in the tunnel not long after the start. Whew! 1/3

[Mt Whitney - day 3 of 3] With tired legs from the past two days of hiking, we crawled out of the tents to a windy and cold morning with blue skies. We packed up camp in about an hour, which included getting everyone breakfast oatmeal and hot tea. The hike down from trail camp felt long, but not too long. Most of us really eager to get down and out to Lone Pine for some french fries (that was what @markchapagram and I were craving and kept droning on about). 6.5 mi / 10.5 km downhill done and the little shop at Whitney Portal had yummy ice cream to tide us over while we waited for the whole crew to arrive at the trailhead. We found lunch in Lone Pine, ate like zombies and didnā€™t talk much, and then drove home. But making sure high five. Grateful for these humans and this experience. Not so sure a whole lot else was accomplished the rest of the day other than a whoooooole bunch of laundry. The very next day Chris and I join some other friends on another backpacking adventure. But first - one sleep in a real bed in a house! #mtwhitney #whitney #hiking #backpacking #friendswhohike #exitcomfortzone #challengeyourself #dohardthings #optoutside #onefootinfrontofanother #switchbacks #wedidit

[Mt Whitney - day 2 of 3] Summit day. It was a cold night in the tents, with outside temps just below freezing. Thankfully everyone got a pretty decent (for backpacking) nightā€™s sleep. After a warm breakfast and waiting for the sun to hit camp to thaw us out a bit, we suited up with day packs and left camp considerably lighter than yesterdayā€™s hike. The summit was just under 5 mi / 8 km from camp. All uphill and fairly steep in several sections. Leaving camp at 12,000 ft / 3660 m elevation the goal was the top of Mt Whitney at 14,505 ft / 4421 m. The first section from camp was about a million switchbacks. Maybe a million and three. I lost count. One foot in front of the other will get us there. Stopping to watch a Pika amongst the rocks was a good distraction too. After the switchbacks the trail turns to the backside of the ā€œteethā€ and kind of sits on top of a steep cliff with incredible views of the lakes and valleys and other mountains into Sequoia National Park. @drmollykate decided to turn around here. Not because she was too tired (she was doing juuuust fine in the thinner air) but because her head didnā€™t want to play anymore. Chris turned around with her while @markchapagram, Dan, and I trudged on toward the summit. The summit was amazing! Cold and windy and hailing, but incredible views and such an accomplishment to stand on top of the tallest mountain in contiguous USA. And Chris met us there! Heā€™d made sure Molly was okay and then hustled to catch up with us. Lots of photos, poses, snacks, and high fives before we headed back down again (freezing cold by now). Iā€™m pretty sure the switchbacks had multiplied for the hike back to camp. We were so ready to get off our feet! Not sure we made it past 7:30 pm before we were all cozy in our sleeping bags for more reading out loud in the tent. #mtwhitney #whitney #hiking #backpacking #friendswhohike #exitcomfortzone #challengeyourself #dohardthings #optoutside #onefootinfrontofanother #tothetop #switchbacks #wedidit

[Mt Whitney - day 1 of 3] Drove from home (Mammoth Lakes) to Lone Pine and on up to Whitney Portal. After all the bathroom breaks and gear checks we set off! Excited and maybe a little nervous about what the journey ahead would entails. Itā€™s been really cold in the mountains the past couple weeks and I was worried Iā€™d freeze. On the first day our goal was to hike up about 6.5 mi / 10.5 km to Trail Camp at 12,000ft / 3360m carrying heavy backpacks, with a backup plan to camp at Outpost Camp farther down if we were too tired. It was definitely a battle to get to Trail Camp but we did it no problems despite getting rained on by icy cold rain. Chris and Dan were speedy so they had hiked ahead and found a campsite for us and were in the process of setting up tents when we got there. Molly helped with the tent setup while I got dinner cooking. It was cold, but not too cold. After a warm chili meal (@drmollykate and I cooked and dehydrated all our meals for the trip) and an incredible sunset, we huddled into the tent to stay warm. I read stories of female rock climbers in Yosemite through the ages, out loud in the tent. Bedtime was at about 8pm šŸ¤Ŗ #mtwhitney #whitney #hiking #backpacking #friendswhohike #exitcomfortzone #challengeyourself #dohardthings #optoutside #onefootinfrontofanother #tothetop #tenting

First taper weekend started off in spectacular fashion- bikeā€™s tire got punctured TWICE (the second time being a mere 15 min after I left the bike shop) ā€”> all bike shops closed ā€”> Uber drive turned me down as my folded bike was too big for the trunk ā€”> waited 30 before an Uber XL was availableā€¦ended up logging an extra 5 hours for my commute home for a normal 1 hour bike ride (roughly 23k). And the weekend has barely started. At least I had a good 18k LSD with the crew and the good folks at my fav bike shop fixed a few things besides the tire - for almost no charge! I am blessed. Now off to some daddy duties before the opening night of VSO with Stewart Goodyear playing Tchaikovskyā€™s piano concerto No.1. Make up long run day after the race Saturday and last weekā€™s hiccup. Just over here putting one foot in front of anotherā€¦juggling all the things and frankly like a hot mess. . . . The frantic end of the school year hustle, ticking off all the to-do lists, attending all the events, school, sporting, and other, simultaneously working, running a busy household, and preparing for summer. This is not about running. I did not want to get out of bed and run this morning. After much debating I knew if I did not go I would regret it. So I crawled out of bed, grabbed my clothes (places right next to my bed), and headed out the door. I am fairly new at running but I suspect every runner has days where they are just not feeling it. My legs were heavy. My lungs were hurting. Breath was labored. Cadence was off. I just couldn't get it together and it was only 5 minutes into the run. I started to think that it just wasn't happening today and give up. However, I kept going. One step at a time. At some point, unknown to me when, my breathing eased, my lungs weren't hurting, my cadence was good, my legs were moving well. I was feeling strong and knew I would finish. I ended the run feeling good and energized. The point, just keep moving. Push through. Put one foot in front of the other. You can find your cadence and feel strong afterwards. #running #run #pushthrough #keepgoing #staystrong #onefootinfrontofanother #onestepatatime #runforthosewhocant

It isnā€™t often you get a race start line literally 100 feet from your workplace. And with that comes a personalized (VIP) lounge pre-race, free parking, and of course wonderful nursing colleagues cheering you on at the end/start of their shift. Today is motivational Monday, and I have to say that nothing super deep comes to mind. Maybe it's the non-stop pace life has set for me recently, or me mentally preparing for peak fire season to start again and whisk my husband away. Whatever it is, I can only think of one simple phrase, 'keep putting one foot in front of the other.' This is somewhat of a mantra for my main character in my book, Freedom Rising, because it is a simple, powerful truth. Putting one foot in front of the other sometimes requires a strength that you have to dig deep for, and that my friends is brave. With each step there comes a shift from bravery to confidence. Whatever it is you are needing to dig deep for today, you will own another day...so keep putting one foot in front of the other. šŸ’– #motivationalmonday #onefootinfrontofanother #inspiration

Many times, when we start on a journey, we cannot see the destination from the beginning. But we trust that one correct turn after the other, one step in front of the other, and we will eventually reach our goals. I might not be where I want to be, but I have faith that I am being guided by a God whose plans for me are good. And that fills me with a future and a hope!
