It was our first day in the Canadian Rockies. After a fun sunrise shoot that required a few kilometres of difficult snowshoeing, @hunterpagephotography and I spent the afternoon in Kananaskis Country scouting conditions. It was evident as we stopped to check various locations that the snow was going to be far from ideal wherever we went. We were slowly working our way to the Chester Lake trailhead to snowshoe up to Chester Lake that evening to photograph the moon rising above Mount Chester. We had set aside a couple of hours to hike up before sunset to take advantage of the evening light up there. Unfortunately, the combination of blazing trail for a few kilometres early that morning, the amount of hiking we did through the day while scouting, and our general poor cardiovascular conditioning meant the hike up took a little longer than expected, and we didn’t have a lot of time up at Chester to enjoy the evening light (but we did get to see @ginayeo_photography and @dantyartphotography up there so it wasn't a waste of effort🙂) . Having been up there a few times in winter’s past, I was looking forward to photographing the trees in the typically deep snow up there. While the snow wasn’t bad, it certainly wasn’t like anything I’ve experienced in the past. I was able to grab a couple of images that I liked during twilight, this being my favourite of that evening. As the night began to fall, the moon was invisible to us, hiding behind a wall of cloud cover. Défi photographique par excellence car ils sont sans cesse en mouvement! Ce roitelet m’a séduite en hérissant son petit « mohak »! Pas loin de lui se trouvait une paruline à calotte rousse, l’une des premières à arriver au printemps : celle-ci dévorait 2 insectes en même temps! Le Guiraca bleu est un oiseau migrateur très rare au Québec : il vit normalement dans la moitié sud des États-Unis en été. Il est aussi appelé gros-bec bleu. Le mâle possède un plumage bleu violacé foncé et il présente une double barre alaire chamois-roux (qui le distingue du passerin indigo). Les photos ont été prises à une bonne distance cependant. L'ara rouge est un oiseau bruyant. Il a des mœurs grégaires ce qui permet de le rencontrer très souvent en couple. Il se nourrit et se repose à l'étage supérieur ou à la cime des grands arbres. Son vol est direct, ses battements d'ailes sont réguliers mais manquent d'amplitude. Les aras rouges sont exclusivement végétariens. Ils se nourrissent de fruits, de noix de palmiers et de graines. ‘Fragile’ Castle Rock Hoodoos Provincial Park, BC This was my first visit back in eleven years to the area and it was so very sad to see all the burnt out remains of those magnificent Douglas fir trees that I saw back in 2013. I barely recognized the area. Three years after the Sparks Lake wildfire scorched the area, these creamy white rock formations still stood out amongst the scorched remains of the Douglas fir on my wander through the area last week. Happy Wednesday Folks! Tonight’s release is titled “Simply Serene” by Trevor Pottelberg, featuring a pair of fluffy cumulus clouds happily drifting through clear blue skies with lush green rolling hills spanning as far as the eye can see. This image has been on my bucket list for years. I’ve envisioned lush green rolling hills, with a blue sky and single cloud or a few clouds floating overhead. Yesterday was the perfect day to pull it off! I knew of a spot only five minutes from my home and was pleasantly surprised to see that the field was full of green when I got there. Another week or so of grass growth would have been perfect, but beggars can’t be choosers. I know some people won’t get this photo and may think it’s too simple, but that is exactly what I like about it. What are your thoughts? Is it too simple for your tastes? Total Solar Eclipse 2024 Composite.
