The poster shows acrobats showing off their skills on the main stage, and other shows in the building including opera, magic and puppets. If you look more carefully you can also see a tuckshop and a kid’s room. When it opened in 1917 the Playground was called Shanghai Great World Amusement Park. The owner was Huang Chujiu who made his fortune with pharmaceuticals. He opened a few other places for public entertainment before, but the Great World was the most famous and iconic. It was rebuilt in 1928 and changed its name to the People’s Playground after 1949. Ps: No one seems interested in street art and graffiti unless they've come across Shepard Fairey's famous posters (@obeygiant ). These posters and stickers have become one of the world's main icons in street art through repetitive motifs over the past decades, with the image on these posters belonging to no one but André the Giant, the legendary French wrestler. I've always had it in mind to create an Iranian version of this. Takhti didn't need to be turned into an icon by any artist because he was already a legend during his lifetime and was considered a symbol of bravery. While scrolling through social media, I stumbled upon an image of Takhti with the same text designed against suicide. Unbelievable antique fair finds! Took a trip to an antique fair last Saturday and unearthed these two beauties… – Books (Please)! In All Branches of Knowledge (1924, Alexander Rodchenko) – Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge! (1919, El Lissitzky) 1960s reproductions. 695 x 485mm. Both are in superb condition with light body tanning and creasing, occasional small tears to the outer edges. “United Defense” - West German re-armament poster created around 1952 depicting West Germany as the last brick in the dam against the ‘red flood’ of communism. Although re-armament was initially opposed by many West German citizens as well as countries such as France, the outbreak of the Korean War and the fears of a Soviet invasion of Europe meant that the US forced France to accept a rapid West German re-armament. This was particularly the case as many French units were busy in Indochina and British units were tied up in Malaysia, leaving the West with only 14 divisions in Europe compared to the estimated 180 divisions of the Warsaw Pact. Interesting photos of a demonstration by FLNKS, the Front de Libération Nationale Kanak et Socialiste, in New Caledonia on March 21, 2024. The FLNKS, which wants independence for New Caledonia, recently received support from Azerbaijan, through the "Baku Initiative Group". This organization, created by the dictatorial regime of Ilham Aliyev (pictured here), aims to destabilize French "colonial regimes", notably French Polynesia and New Caledonia. Many FLNKS activists wore t-shirts emblazoned with the Baku group's logo. The FLNKS's search for foreign support and recognition is not new: in the 1980s, many militants went to the USSR and Libya under Gaddafi for training. Azerbaijan's support, however, is new and deserves attention. As long ago as November 2023, Azerbaijan waged a disinformation campaign against France, aimed at damaging France's reputation for hosting the next Olympic Games. . Propaganda embodies heroic realism—it is bold, attention-grabbing, and unapologetically persuasive. When wielded effectively, propaganda can convey powerful messages, shaping beliefs and behaviors, especially when coupled with compelling design. 1. 1943, Australian WWII poster.
