It takes around 20 years for an olive tree to bear fruit 🫒 sometimes longer. About 100,000 Palestinians rely on olive trees to survive. Many of these trees have been destroyed by Israel, just like the wells, cities, homes, and farmland. I’m sad we gave $30 billion to Israel to further destroy civilians, which are the main casualty. The long history of US violence and funding of terrorist organizations across the world will hopefully come to an end, but first through knowledge of these crimes (which the US admits to). ✍️ #WritingWorkshop #ProsePoem #Tagore | May 5 | 11am to 1pm ‘Who are you, reader, reading my poems a hundred years hence?’ — this Sunday, we gather fragrant memories from our blossoming garden, and in our hearts feel the living joy that sang one spring morning a century ago. We remember our very own Rabindranath Tagore. We know of no other man in any time, who has done anything in the English language, to equal his lyrics. Join us in this rare workshop on the prose-poem style of writing, centered around the English translation (by Tagore himself) of Tagore’s ‘The Gardener’. Used not only by the ‘Gurudev’ himself, but by writers such as Charles Baudelaire, Gertrude Stein, John Ruskin, and even Serge Gainsbourg, Bob Dylan, and Jimi Hendrix, through a substantial introduction to the technique, and practice of various more particular technical aspects of it, and a series of guided writings (which you will do) and readings, we will acquire this means of more poetic self-expression and exploration. "Violent Silence" stemmed from a restless, evasive night's sleep, being so frustrated and helpless with the state of the world in some aspects (and also from the prompt by the wonderful Leah @thesoftword ), as I started the second stanza, I was brushing my teeth and found my mind fluttering to Gaza, to the atrocities going on in Myanmar, Congo, Ukraine - I admire so much the protesting that's been going on to advocate for those who can't use their voices, and even though I wrote this poem earlier in the month, it still definitely feels like it's the right time to get these words out there. I have definitely been trying to write more pieces in a similar tone/nature too, but I have just been finding everything so hard to process lately, too. 🥺💔 Also, please know with my last stanza, I don't mean to cause offence when I talk about a 'higher power', they're truly just my personal beliefs and I often find myself pondering on this, too, like, what would "God" make of everything that's going on? My Nanny left her body and earth last week, just after her 96th birthday She was one of my favorite people, a safe-haven for me as a child. We shared a love of books, raw turnips, pecans, poetry and unexplainable human nature. She was the first adult I heard cuss regularly. She was a big supporter of my writing all my life. The flower shop for food of a gossipy kind, never to be missed.
