Monday... Me: Explaining the long and short of a complicated issue. Aunt: So basically, you’re breaking your dad out of the hospital? Me: ...Yes. _____ If I could have wheeled my dad out of the hospital I would have, long over a month ago, but maneuvering a medical bed wasn’t so easy. It took a lot of planning, people involved, insurance adjustments, medical record transitions, questions answered from different professionals, understanding medical conditions, timing...excessive coordination without the proper support of the hospital who cared for our dad. What we did is called an AMA (Against Medical Advice). We hired an ambulance. Our day started at 3am. I didn’t leave the new hospital until 9:30pm. No more daily long drives to ensure what should be happening for our dad gets done. Certainly this whole journey….but the obstacles the day before and the day of the move was nothing short of spiritual warfare. Immediately, but certainly by Friday, Dad’s countenance gave all the details that we did the right thing. The biggest comfort was hearing his new care team say “I would’ve done the same thing!” To all those who have given in the GoFundMe-you played a large role in getting Dad what he needed in this transition. Thank you doesn’t say enough. Blessed to start a new week…. It took a few days to make the change and settle in but all I can say is THANK YOU ALL for following this journey with us, sharing and being a part of his story of hope and making an impact. It has a ripple effect! Vigilance is something you can’t truly be rewarded for. It’s beyond the scope of what we can see. Danger, many times, is something you feel based on pieces of evidence. Stayed prayed up people. He writes, ‘If you have endured the coronavirus pandemic of 2020, Defoe speaks to you directly’. With two-colour printing throughout, this distinctive edition is illustrated by the distinguished printmaker and illustrator Chris Wormell. He has created a superb cover design of two skeletons, recalling a danse macabre, as well as exquisite woodcut motifs that punctuate the text. Born in London in 1660, Daniel Foe changed his surname to Defoe when he began to establish his trading businesses in the capital. Defoe lived through a fascinating and horrifying period in English history, surviving both the Great Plague of London in 1665 and the Great Fire of London the following year. In between working as a merchant, Defoe was a prodigious writer of political and social pamphlets and periodicals. He turned to novel writing late in life and his first published book, Robinson Crusoe (1719), is by far his best-known. His penchant for the adventure genre continued with Captain Singleton (1720), Memoirs of a Cavalier (1720), while A Journal of the Plague Year (1722) presents an eyewitness account of the Great Plague. Can a carnivore be sustainable? Based on science, the answer is resolutely “NO”. In fact, there’s growing scientific consensus, that we should all be steering towards a plant-based diet, reducing our meat intake or better yet, eliminating meat altogether. 🥦🥕🥔🧅🫑🍠🥬🌽 A plant-based diet has health benefits not only to the CONSUMER, but also, importantly, to PLANETARY HEALTH. 🌎 This is because the production of meat has a multitude of negative ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS, when considering the greenhouse gas emissions, land use (hence biodiversity loss), and water use of the three most popular meats (beef, pork, poultry). 🐓🐖🐄 Meat eating is also an INEFFICIENT way to transfer nutrients and energy from plants to humans, given that much of that goodness is lost via the intermediary animal. 🐄🐖🐓 Not only does the production of meat require water, energy and land, so does its subsequent PROCESSING and REFRIGERATION. 🌾 PLUS, the FEED given to the animals requires water, energy and land, too! 🌾 But aside from the animal welfare and nutrient composition, are any meats LESS damaging to the environment than others? 🐓🏆 The short answer is “YES”. Generally, beef production is WAY more damaging to the environment than pork, and poultry is SIGNIFICANTLY LESS damaging than both beef and pork. 🏆🐓🦃🦆 These distinctions are lost when we’re facing a typical supermarket shelf, laden with a variety of identically packaged meats. Know that there ARE differences and POULTRY rules the roost. 🏆🐓🦆🦃 So, what can a diehard carnivore do to be more sustainable? 1 - Reduce/eliminate intake of beef and pork 2 - Gravitate towards poultry (ie. chicken, turkey, goose or duck). 3 - Consider fish instead 4 - Eat less processed meats 5 - Choose meat with a shorter meat chain (ie. direct from farm) 6 - Try fake meat 💥 It starts with us.
