Happy Medal Monday from the RunUnited 5k! This race is special to me because I PRd the 10k last year and I’m excited to say I PRd the 5k this year. At first the time said 26:26, but then adjusted to 26:34. Either way, that is a time way faster than I could’ve imagined! That’s almost a 3.5 minute 5k PR. I wouldn’t have come up with the idea to race a 5k without the motivation from #TeamCackle and I’m so glad we stuck some speed in there before we take on Berlin. These girls impress me regularly! And of course, thank you @run4prs and @marathonermother for helping me feel ready for race day!! ❤️

Happy #medalmonday ! Half #54 in the books at the AEC Run United Half Marathon, 10K, 5K,& Kid’s Fun Run this past Saturday morning in Aiken SC! I liked my Strava results a bit better than the race organizers timing but either way I beat the balloon ladies ( if this had been a Disney race). For a long time it was just me and another guy being chased by the swag wagon. Somehow I was able to get ahead of him and as he crossed the finish line, he said “ At least I beat the balloon ladies!” Come to find out that he was a fellow Rundisney runner and had just completed a perfect season at last weekend’s Springtime Surprise! The 2024 Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon was full of new experiences! I’ve always done the half or the full marathon so not being at the start was very weird! And I missed some of the staple highlights from the first 6.2 miles of the course! I greatly enjoyed the relay though and would do it again! It was very well organized and I got to run parts of the marathon course that have changed since I last ran it! The neighborhoods SHOWED UP! I ran legs 2 and 3 with over 10 miles of running and a little quicker than I anticipated! I made it to the finish line in time to see Joel finish his first marathon, Rachel hit her A goal time, and Paul finish with a shiny new PR! Yesterday: 3.2 miles Today: 14.6 miles My legs were tired but pushing through today’s miles when everything felt hard from the beginning and my legs were done by mile 8 made me feel strong. It was also raining pretty hard and COLD 🥶 during the last few miles. I kept saying to myself: “this is where mental toughness is made” and “you’ve got this, you can do it”. If there were more people on the trail I probably would’ve gotten some looks, yes I said that out loud. 🤣
Well, that was miserable. But I finished, and got lots of compliments on my outfit. Finish line Friday Stitch and Angel attacking snacks! Quite possibly my favorite costume I’ve ever worn a runDisney event! . Stitch is my main man. A weird little experimental alien full of chaos and mischievousness often unlikeable by some but is fiercely loyal to those he loves and who love him. Perhaps I’ve always identified in some way as this outcast. . When they announced Springtime Surprise as the Ohana Challenge with Stitch featured, I knew I had to have this medal. I fundraised for @gktwvillage in part so I didn’t have to worry about registration and in part because since visiting the village in 2021, I’ve wanted to fundraise at some point for them. Life has changed a lot since I signed up for this race and I truly had no idea what these races would look like for me…. 10 miler magic 💫 We relived our corral (coral) and laughed so hard I think we actually pissed off people around us. 😂 Before the 5k @danagoesthedistance and I realized we had been pacing/training the same, so we ran each race together. She really paced me for the 10 miler cause I’m known to get out there, get excited, and end my race EXHAUSTED. But Dana kept us paced at a STRONG AF pace and we rocked it and finished strong and I actually felt good post race. Reentry is always hard from @rundisney weekends, but this one has been particularly difficult. Came back Tuesday and had chemo yesterday. Today I woke up with a fever. I don’t know if it’s the chemo or something I caught or maybe a little of both. This is the risk I take by traveling and trying to live my life the best I can and these are the possible consequences. It makes it tough and I’m crying just typing this. For all the memories made and the hugs I get, I have to remember this is my reality. It’s hard. Really really hard. . But I’m a fighter. I often downplay the “fighter/warrior” mentality because I don’t feel like one. But I’m not giving up living my life as best as I can. This post is not for sympathy or wanting good vibes, prayers, etc. It’s because this is reality and one of things I heard over and over this past weekend is how honest I am about this shitty ass journey. I came, I saw, I did my best! I can’t believe how much running has changed for me in the last 9 months. Looking back on my 10 miler time from this time last year vs. this weekend, it’s just unbelievable to me. I don’t know when/if I’ll ever get back to the paces I was running in ‘22/early ‘23, but working towards trying to be happy with where I’m at now and trying to focus on what I can do right now. Overall, I felt really good during this 10 miler. I managed to push through without tripping, falling, and minimal walking. I was thankful for the early start to not have to run too much with the sun out, but it sure was hot anyway! I was also thankful to only be participating in one of the three races this weekend. It was nice to have only one morning with a 2am wake up call! Thanks to everyone for such encouraging messages! ❤️

Springtime Surprise weekend is in the books and boy were memories made. The overarching theme for me this race weekend was gratitude. I am so grateful for the people the @rundisney community has brought into my life. I cherish these memories every time we do these races. This weekend was also for our @dillyrunsondisney. She was with all of us every step of the way. Emotions were high at times and across the spectrum, from so much joy to heartache. For those not aware, I wore Emily’s favorite @crownedathletics outfit for the 10 miler. One that she wore during Dopey a few months ago. It still smelled like her even after my sweaty 10 mile run and she was clearly with me every step of the way. Had a blast at the Heroes for Hope 5k this morning! The humidity is definitely starting to show its face here and I’ll have to start freezing my water bottles and carrying my cooling towels again. It was so fun watching the little superheros not only do the 5k but also participate in the kids fun run as well!
