I told him let's go on a walk, just a short walk for 5 mins. He was reluctant at first but then he agreed when i looked at him and said 'I really want to'. We started strolling. It was past 12 at night. Songs were playing from his phone in his pocket. We walked for a bit and 5 minutes went by and we were still walking, now holding hands and listening to songs. He played a song that he wanted me to listen to and asked me to listen to the lyrics. I listened to it. Smiled. Gave him some remarks . He also smiled. We were still holding hands. Then he told me he loved the lyrics of another song and I said 'play it'. I left his hand so that he could grab the phone from his pocket. He asked why did you leave my hand? I told him why. He said I could've used my other hand. I smiled. Butterflies in stomach :) We listened to another song, still holding hands. We popped into Porthleven yesterday and ate a pasty picnic beside the monumental harbour walls. True it was a bit like taking coals to Newcastle because there’s two pasty fabulous shops within a stones throw of the sea! And of course the previous day had been a dazzling blue midwinter day but a we’d just come from Helston and b) Charles had an important date with a pampas on the previous day. Ahh well! The day had magnificent gloomy dramatic light and the sheer magnificence of the granite harbour more than made up for it! We wimpily ate our pasty in the safety of the car (I’ve met the crafty seagulls before!) before settling out along the wall far above the sea. The colder air met us at the heroic length of breakwater that was safely open above the millpond of the sea I’ll take a walk beside the sea in any season, so once we reached the final railing we retraced our tracks and turned up through the gaggle of cottages to walk above the golden beach. As the tide turned the first of the waves built and arched towards the golden sands below. Time for home to relight the fire and snuggle with a hot cup of tea. News of the hedgehog in my autumn table setting! It’s not really a hedgehog of course but two people independently saw it as one. And of course once they’d mentioned it that was the only thing that I could see too. It’s a beautiful memory of trawling the tide line on a Cornish cove. It was one of those summer days when the heat hung heavily in the air and the still sea almost seemed to melt into the skies. I’d wandered down to the sea to pick up some plastic bottles that had been annoying me and there it was - worn smooth by the tide yet finally nestled amongst the seaweed. So I scooped it up too and it sat tightly guarding its secrets on a window cill until a friend came for lunch. Well after a couple of days in the warmth of the dining room an extraordinary thing happened - the cone started to open. The warmth of the fire did something the sea couldn’t do and the cone started to open. So finally curiosity got the better of me and I gave it a sharp tap to see if there were seeds …a tumble of seeds landed on the table. Should I plant them?! The unknown variety of pine tree. Where did it come from ? My beach combing find. Dejé a Arturo y su infeliz tesorero para recorrer el coche con los ojos, a unos metros a la izquierda había un cura leyendo. Estaba calvo. Iba vestido con un hábito negro de cura y con un crucifijo en el cuello. Estaba concentrado leyendo algo, un libro, pero no podía distinguir cuál. Pasados unos segundos, el hombre se recolocó en el asiento y subió el libro a la altura de los ojos. Al parar en otra estación, todavía no es la mía, subió más gente al coche del cura. Perdí contacto visual porque una persona de espaldas, con mochila al hombro y un abrigo por la cintura de largo a rayas roja, blanca y verde oscuro anchas y horizontales se interpuso entre ambos. Dicha persona vestía con vaqueros y creo que se puso a hablar con el cura, este alzó el cuello, sonrió y asintió. Entonces le vi desplazarse un asiento a su derecha (mi izquierda). Entre tanto, cerró el libro y pude ver de qué libro se trataba, no era muy grande, un tamaño bolsillo, con las páginas amarillentas y las cubiertas desgastadas. Me sorprendió ver que era una biblia. El tren volvió a pararse, aunque seguía sin ser mi parada. Ir en tren al instituto se me hacía agotador, perdía mucho tiempo que no podía aprovechar para nada más que para dormir y sin embargo hoy, ni tenía sueño. Recorrí el tren de nuevo con los ojos, el grupo de mujeres chillonas del fondo ya no estaba debió de bajarse hace dos paradas. Curiosamente había una mochila con estampado de princesas en un asiento cerca de la puerta. No sabría explicar cómo llegamos a la situación a continuación pues todo ocurrió muy rápido. Al parase el tren subió un hombre alto y grande, de espaldas anchas y mirada desafiante. Abrió la mochila y sacó un arma, sin yo saber de armas, diría que podría ser perfectamente una ametralladora. Al mismo tiempo el hombre del abrigo a rayas que estaba sentado junto al cura también abrió su mochila y sacó un arma parecida. El primero de ellos, el de la mirada fiera, empezó a hablar para el tren: -Bien pasajeros.- dijo con voz grave y ronca-. Subió más gente tras de mí: Una señora que se sentó junto a mí llevaba un bolso granate e iba ligeramente maquillada, tendría unos cuarenta. En la mano llevaba una carpeta, se puso a revisarla dejando a la vista su muñeca, donde tenía una marca muy extraña a su alrededor, como si algo se le hubiese clavado en la piel. Nada más darse cuenta de que tenía la muñeca al aire, se la cubrió estirando la manga del jersey. En seguida mi mente se puso a divagar sobre qué le pudo haber dejado esa marca: ¿una pulsera? ¿un reloj? Llevaba uno plateado en la otra mano, pero apenas la vi mirarlo. Quizá ahí tenga otra marca. No parecía la marca que deja un simple reloj, no sería tan pronunciada, ni estaría tan irritada. ¿Una cuerda? Una cuerda apretada con mucha fuerza sí podría dejar unas marcas tan severas. ¿Correría peligro? No daba esa impresión, pero igual era todo una fachada y en el fondo estaba asustada. Analizando de reojo su maquillaje, en su cara había unas zonas más oscuras que otras…que ni quiera el corrector pudo esconder. Nos paramos en una estación, no es la mía todavía. Frente a nosotras se sentó un hombre embutido en un traje, hablaba con un tal Arturo. «Sí Arturo, los negocios van bien. No, tu dinero está a buen recaudo.» Se le notaba relajado hablando con Arturo, con un brazo estirado sobre otro asiento. El supuesto tesorero de Arturo tenía las piernas cruzadas, dejando entrever sus calcetines negros, enfundados en unos zapatos de vestir bastante gastados. Mientras continuaba tranquilizando a Arturo, en la mano que reposa sobre los asientos, me fijé que su dedo anular tenía un ligero estrechamiento, donde hubiese habido una alianza. Además, el banquero de Arturo tenía el cabello lleno de canas y marcadas ojeras.
