Ten kołnierzyk to moja mała rozgrzewka po zimowej stagnacji kiedy niewiele się działo i jakoś nie czułam potrzeby szycia, haftowania czy w ogóle tworzenia. Pewnego dnia udało mi się obejrzeć film The Red Shoes z 1948 roku, który totalnie mnie oczarował. Poczułam się trochę jak w dzieciństwie, kiedy zainspirowana filmami, czy muzyką siadałam i szkicowałam kostiumy i wymyślne stroje. Pojawiła się twórcza energia, której tak bardzo mi brakowało. W filmie najbardziej spodobał mi się aspekt wizualny- scenografie, kostiumy, charakteryzacje, choreografie, postacie🩰💃 To wszystko sprawiło, że sama miałam ochotę coś stworzyć, ale coś niezbyt skomplikowanego. Pomyślałam o kołnierzyku, takim dużym, fantazyjnym, charakterystycznym i... niepraktycznym😅. Postanowiłam coś na nim wyhaftować, myślałam o motywach roślinnych, ale będąc wciąż pod wpływem filmu motywy roślinne jakoś nie wchodziły w grę. Odpuściłam i pozwoliłam, aby inspiracja sama się pojawiła. Uwielbiam motyw oczu, dlatego naturalnie postawiłam na teatralny makijaż głównej bohaterki- Victorii💋 Jestem ciekawa jak Wam się podoba? I czy jest coś, co Was ostatnio w jakikolwiek sposób zainspirowało? Featuring a handpainted facade and papier-mâchéd on pointe legs, the visual references pay homage to two of the greatest dance films of all time: Suspiria (the OG 1977 version) and The Red Shoes (1948). Both films involve a heady mix of horror themes: ballet, occult/magic/witchcraft and supernatural forces. Both films were also filmed in vivid technicolor (Suspiria being one of the last films to do so) on sets constructed specifically for the film. My sumptuous new display @aftrslibrary is here! 🥀🩰🔪 And it's all about DANCE ON FILM. Handpainted and papier-mâchéd on pointe legs by yours truly, my visual references pay homage to two of the greatest dance films of all time: Suspiria (the OG 1977 version) and The Red Shoes (1948). Apart from the dance element, both films involve a heady mix of some of my favourite themes: beautiful women going mad... obsessions... occult/magic/witchcraft/ supernatural forces beyond human control. Both films were also filmed in vivid technicolor (Suspiria being one of the last films to do so) on sets constructed specifically for the film. A poem for April 13 based based on a fun prompt from #AmyKayPoemADay24 . This one involved asking ChatGPT for an obscure fact. I got the St. Vitus' Dance (or the Dancing Plague), which got me thinking of Hans Christian Andersen's The Red Shoes (and Kate Bush's amazing song, and of course Bowie). 📽️ NO. 2: BALLET FABLES Film 1 THE RED SHOES Film 2 BLACK SWAN I have dreamt of seeing these two films slated together as a double bill for a long time now. Typically I see Black Swan more commonly compared with the 1997 Japanese Anime thriller ‘Perfect Blue’. Although these two films share many obvious similarities (especially in their cinematography and themes of mental health), I have always preferred the pairing of ‘Black Swan’ with what I see to be it’s older British sister, ‘The Red Shoes’. ‘Black Swan’ may more outwardly be a psychological thriller/horror, but ‘The Red Shoes’ has sprinklings of darkness lying just under its surface. Both films share a third act that beautifully blurs the lines between life, art, and morbid fairytale. They take the allegory of their folktales and fuse them with reality, tormenting their protagonists with the psychological effects blind ambition can have on a person, and thus driving them towards conclusions not so dissimilar from their fairytale counterparts. Life imitating art in the most haunting of ways. I hope you enjoy! The CD single has entered the chat! I’ve got lots of these, mainly from all of the promotional items I’d get back in the day while in radio. But there were a few that I sought out for myself. Danny at Weird Harold’s was a fan of Kate Bush like me, so when she released “Eat The Music” as the lead-off single for her album “The Red Shoe,” he had this copy ready to sell. The song is a bit too busy for me, and the production choices made on this record are a bit hard to endure. While I enjoyed a lot of the songs on “The Red Shoes” and bonded with a few tracks in particular, I always preferred the sounds that Kate chose when she revisited many of the tunes for The Director’s Cut in 2011. #katebush #eatthemusic #theredshoes #weirdharolds
