Hey mama, Whether your journey into motherhood was unexpected or purposeful; whether your child was grown in your body or in another, becoming a mother is a beautiful thing. For many women, there are the things we anticipate- the feel of our child snuggled on our chest (my personal favorite), the dirty diapers, soothing a child’s cries, And then there are the things that were unexpected- the exhaustion that sinks into your bones, the overwhelm of emotion, your child’s strong-will. There are the expectations we place upon ourselves as a parent and the ones that society places upon us. No one talks about how out of balance you may feel- the changes in your partnership; the reality of balancing motherhood with the demands of your job; the fact that you may be a better parent when you’re working and your child is in daycare; Being a mama is incredible. But it's also okay to admit that it's challenging. It's okay to ask for help and say "I don't got this." I personally didn't ask for help enough when I had two little ones at home and it nearly sucked the life out of me. I'm learning now that it's okay to say "I need space" and "I need help”. Give yourself grace mama. We took a spur of the moment trip to the Bluebell forest as I needed to see them before they turned and the weather was not very allowing of outdoor adventures at the moment and I am so happy with the amount of beautiful photos we managed to capture ❤️ @forever_out_numbered I’m so grateful for this photo with my babies, I’m normally the one taking the photos so this is so special to me 😍😍😍. Ad| getting ready for the upcoming half term thanks to @rexlondonuk Half term is fast approaching and I need to keep these little people busy :) Sofia was delighted when she saw the new watering can she loves being outside, and I'm so excited to try our new kite on the Surrey hills it's absolutely perfect and I adore it I will put the puzzles and drum away safe for Elliot til half term but Sofia has already opened the vet play set and spent the last few hours playing lol 🤣 she loves it @rexlondonuk truly do have the best range of items for the entire family
Yesterday I celebrated entering a new decade - with a sick daughter home from school during the day, and 2 hours of extra baseball practice for my two older kids (inexplicably including my middle son who doesn’t even play on a team!). And you know what? It was perfect. When I entered my 30s, I was pregnant for the first time and terrified; up until a month before we became pregnant, I was adamant I would never have children. Now, we have 4, and I can’t imagine life any other way. When I reflect on my 30s, I am so very grateful for all the decade brought. Grateful for these four children who changed my life in the best way possible, who teach me every day, and who are the best of friends. Grateful for our forever home. Grateful for new beginnings and a new career trajectory. Grateful to have been able to fully pay off my student loans, which at the start of the decade seemed impossible. Grateful for (almost) 20 years of togetherness with my incredible husband. Grateful for every challenge that forced me to learn a little more about myself. Grateful to the wonderful friends and community we’ve discovered, a continent away from our families. And yesterday, I felt grateful for every extra minute I get to spend with my kids. There is the guilt of the stay home mom that you are not providing financially, even though you are caring for little ones all day. There’s the guilt that your home is a total mess, when really you had a great day playing with and focusing on your children. We compare and think that we are not good enough. The aunts used to take turns sleeping in the single bed next to my grandmother, but sometimes, because of their fatigue, they wouldn't hear her stirring and sleep right through it. Aunt P decided to set up 2 chairs with cushions next to Grandma's bed to allow her to be as close as possible. This is where Aunt P sleeps now.
Things we don’t have enough photos of. Grandparents playing with their grandchildren. Everyone always makes a point of getting family photos when grandparents are visiting, or getting a posed shot of nanny and poppy with the kids at the end of a family session. But it is very rare that grandparents are included in family photos otherwise. But oh how they should be. I wish I had more photos of me with my grandparents as a kid. Actual genuine photos of them spending time with me. They were such a big part of my life. You might live near the grandparents and get to see them often. Or maybe you only see them during holidays or visits. Either way, they need to be in photos with you and your kids. Documentary sessions allow them to be. When you know you’re in safe hands 💕 If you’re wondering when is the best time to book your newborn session, there’s no one right answer… Since my focus is on meaning, honesty and connection, rather than props and posing, we can capture precious newborn images up to 8 weeks old and beyond. And often my clients prefer this, for a whole variety of reasons. But if you want to capture your baby when they are brand-new and teeny tiny, like gorgeous little Nancy here, then the best time is generally when your baby is less than two weeks old 🥰 Just be sure to get in touch in advance of your due date to secure your session, as availability is limited. We simply set a provisional date and I build in some flexibility, since babies work to their own schedule!
