Growing up an intense library kid, I never considered becoming a librarian. All I longed to do was stamp due dates, with force and in bold ink, onto these inserts. I was encouraged to become a librarian as I finished undergrad. I do love being in libraries, knowing books, helping so many people, learning randomness, and listening to patron stories. And burnout spectacularly I did!! (Librarians & library workers will get it.) Now, I just want to write. A lot. Most of the time. About my research, teaching, experiences (traumatic and slightly less traumatic). But mainly about this is deep, consuming feeling I have yet to describe to anyone. Although I haven’t shared it, I know it can’t be only me who feels it sometimes (or most of the time). Eventually, my writings to find understanding/community will be in a library (probably digitally with no due date stamp needed, unread). Typical Girls - Miata/Nice Boys (Kanine, 2021) I bought this because it was reduced from £11.99 (!) to a much more reasonable £2.99 in Rough Trade Nottingham, so just like the good old days of being able to take a chance on singles by bands you'd never heard of before. I'm really glad I bought this because it's absolutely glorious - uplifting dance-pop, basically. 'Miata', in particular, is reminiscent of early Saint Etienne, with its downtempo breakbeats and dreamy vocals. This 7" was limited to just 250 copies on red vinyl (and also 250 on blue). Typical Girls are a trio from Sweden and I would definitely recommend further exploration. Their cover of 'Californication', complete with early 90s house piano hook, is superb.
