The colour of the waste directly influences the colour of the canvas and many times the canvases themselves already look like pieces of art. Check out the last pictures of this carousel and you will know exactly what I mean😍 Regarding the specific fine line art designs, they all originate from Tosca but she is always open for new ideas. Also, when Claudia from @claca.design wanted to know whereas living on an island gave extra inspiration, Tosca clearly answered: YES! Many of her paintings are inspired by the environment of Terschelling like the animals, waves, plants and much more. I took the chance to do an artist retreat in the Arvali Mountains whilst my daughter joined an unschoolers camp. I was inspired by the zero waste policy of the @swaraj_university, where nothing is thrown away and minimal plastic is brought in. India is way ahead of the UK in some ways, with 19 single use plastics banned since 2022. It was also breathtaking to see the craftsmanship in the charming palaces and havelis of Udaipur. In particular the palace windows. Its all about the curling fancy windows that invite fresh breezes with shade and peek holes. I made this window into the palace of nature, the bamboo grove where I meditated, from oil bottles and repurposed bamboo from a building that had collapsed. In order to understand this, I studied four artistic practices and their inhabitations. Through the four cases, I was able to extend the argument that artistic experience comes from the intensity of living. The second experience shows how intensity of experience is produced through engagements with labor that produces cities and the materiality of the art experience encompasses dust and tattoos and powadas. The structure drawings that record these artistic experiences also inhabit this intensity and density. His grandfather was a powada singer, poetry singer, and wrote theatre scripts, acting also. The script is related to social issues because he lived in Crawford market in a chawl along with mill workers, sanitation workers, etc. In 2015, he started to read and document those places. He went to a Grant Road and interviewed people who live in BDD chawl, particularly sanitation workers. He says about sanitation workers, ‘They work for us, they enter the sewage tank and clean our dirt without any safety or protection costume. These are government workers, but the government does not look at them and give them proper costumes and safety equipment. They seem to be invisible and are treated like untouchable people in our city. Because of our dirt, lots of sanitary workers die every month. It indirectly affects their children. Because of no money to survive in the city and no opportunities, children also leave school and join their parents' practices as sanitation workers. That touched him a lot, and he also started to look through that lens and spread awareness about those people and issues of society through their artistic practice. 'Amol Patil’s artistic experience comes from deep engagements with society. I absolutely loved this fun project with @kilmyshallnational. The 6th class students made this welcome sign entirely from waste. The canvas is an old blind from the school and the frame is made from legs of an old class table from the school! The flowers are made from fingerprints of each of the students who participated. 🌸 The artwork depicts the landscape around the school, the school crest and motto. Some items made to create it include old keys, clothes, cardboard, an old school football and plastic nozzles.
