I showed this old drawing on facebook recently and so many people hadn't seen it before I thought you might like to see it too. I was lucky enough to use a photograph from the amazing photographer for reference @paul_williams_photography Paul has always been so supportive of my work. I can't thank him enough. And the words are by Shakespeare. I don't tend to draw just using graphite pencils these days. And you might call this a kind of cross over piece. I was using lettering in my work but wasn't quite brave enough to stop doing graphite drawings. I had a lot of learning to do with watercolours. We need to take care of our amazing and fragile wildlife! ‘Wild Hares’ A live zoom pastel workshop Monday 8th April, 7pm London time Join us for a live pastel workshop, to focus on how to capture the structure, body language and textures of animals, using wild hares as our subject matter. We will be using soft pastels, charcoal, Conte Crayons (if you have them) and pastel pencils. Hares are beautiful and extraordinary animals, and a joy to draw and paint. However, much of the skills learnt in this workshop will be useful for many other animals, including dogs, cats and other wildlife. We will look at drawing animal heads from different angles as a way to understand their structure and form. As silly as it seems, I was getting so frustrated with this braid! Not being able to start it right and my shoulders getting tired. Enter @camie.otg who just supported my elbows for a couple of minutes so I could get past the tough part of the braid. The part of this whole thing was when I asked her to help she didn’t give me that “are you seriously asking me for this” kind of response. I wish I’d learned how to draw and paint well, but (as I haven’t yet) am enjoying creating using elements of the millions of amazing antique and vintage artwork in the free-domain. Are any of You (also) digital clip-art Fans?… I love this antique watercolour-painting of a Wild Hare, made in the 1500s by an extremely talented Artist; it was fun to bring him to life for this digital card! What are the little-things about Soring that You enjoy and look-forward to? Crocus hunting, hearing the calls of returning Canadian Geese, and seeing the baby animals emerge — are 3 of My favourites! Speaking of baby-animals, I recently saw a seasonal-warning regarding the wild baby Rabbits and Hares that I think is a valuable one to pass-on — so here it is… So far in Alberta, the wild baby Hares and Rabbits are still too-young to venture out alone — but if/when they DO show their adorable velvety-noses, remember the wise warning to “see a rabbit — and leave a rabbit”. Wild baby Rabbits and Hares are alone during the daytime, and may appear to need rescuing — but it’s best that We leave them where they are. Apparently, it’s normal for baby Rabbits/Hares to find a hiding place by themselves during the day; however, the Mama Rabbits/Hares do come to nurse them during the nighttime. Sadly, when seemingly abandoned/lost babies Rabbits/Hares are ‘rescued’ by well-meaning Folk — they are actually separating them from their Homes and Families, and they usually die due to the stress of the experience. For their sake, it’s best to just enjoy seeing them from a distance — no matter how cute (and seemingly vulnerable) they are. Bright Equinox and new moon blessings. 🌼🌙🐇 Have you ever seen a hare? I’ve only ever encountered one once during a family paint balling event in Scotland more than twenty years ago. I was taking a break from the hectic game and silently sat hiding in some very long grass when I heard something bursting across the field towards me. Through the nearly waist high grass I couldn’t see what was causing the sound as it dramatically hurtled towards the spot I was in. The creature came to an abrupt and startled full stop directly in front of me and for a brief second we looked fully upon each other confused and amazed. Then as quick as a flash the beautiful, rare, tall hare took off and was immediately gone.
