Both who are accustomed to having control relinquish that control, giving into the magnetic pull of one another through sparse dialogue as they shed their old habitual natures. None of the leads possess any sense of normalcy as the film dives deeper and deeper into the macabre in a microcosm that erases sentiment, with unignorable camerawork that never leaves Naja’s side, focusing on the abstract and resting in non-focal points, creating a chaotic momentum throughout the film that recalled the camerawork of films such as SON OF SAUL and PRETTY BABY. Grand Jete is a film that is constantly reinforcing its motive to displace any sense of ease or comfortability by focusing on the battered body of Nadja through her twisted bones and arthritic joints and the drab and clinical world of routine, eating disorders, foul water, and bodily fluids. It is an abrasive and unwelcoming film experience that offers no joyous rewards of humor or warmth that may feel unrewarding to some. What it does offer is a hard-earned glimpse of cinema realism that sniffs around in places often not ventured and meshes with characters whose conflict is within themselves. Sarah Grether portrays one of the most provocative and unflattering roles I have seen in some time. I will definitely keep an eye out for her and director Isabelle Stever. Through the miracle of capitalism hunters can pick and choose which animals they would like to hunt and kill from a list similar to that of a restaurant menu and display as trophies in their homes or sell to buyers. Seidl’s minimalist style is immediately recognizable and is accompanied by a humorless and mechanical approach to the killing of these wild animals. Delivering the procedural and ritualistic ways in which these hunters add to their collections and share some of their own thoughts and rationalizations on hunting, race relations, conservationism etc. One cannot deny how unfit, unknowledgeable and out of place many of us are in the natural world because of our detachment from it as we lean closer and closer to technology and convenience. And while watching this I could not help but notice how much we rely on, gears, gadgets and tools to accomplish these tasks while being so self congratulatory on these accomplishments that the rest of the animal kingdom tackles with little or no tools to survive. He made great films. “The Boys In The Band” (masterpiece), “Cruising” with Al Pacino. “The French Connection” which won five Academy Awards, including best picture. “The Exorcist” the first horror film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, as well as nine others including best director. To say it was a sensation is an understatement. Lines around the block. Crowds outside theaters rioted. 🤯 Despite tepid reviews, it was a runaway hit. Some viewers suffered adverse physical reactions, fainting or vomiting. Theaters arranged for ambulances to be on call. Journalists complained that coverage of the film was distracting the public from the ongoing Watergate scandal. The New York Times, dismissed The Exorcistas "a chunk of elegant occultist claptrap ... a practically impossible film to sit through ... establishing a new low for grotesque special effects. Friedkin was relentless and obsessive. The production was difficult and hugely over budget. He was married to the great French actress, Jeanne Moreau, also Sherry Lansing, among others. Story time! I would argue that this is where it all started for me. I have been collecting horror films since 10th/11th grade: so respectively 15+ years. But this -- this my friends, is where it REALLY began. Back in High school, I made friends with this kid in art class. We never really spoke to eachother per-se, but we liked each other's art work. So we started passing notes, which turned into collaborating on some post apocalyptic comics and just chatting through notes. So one day, this guy, who, as I said, I never really verbally spoke to: hands me a blank booted DVD in an empty cd case. He said nothing. Just slipped it to me and walked away. Entirely intrigued, I popped it into my player as soon as I got home. Bro. I was not prepared. How could I have been? I didn't know how to feel about it but I was so excited and petrified, like watching something I never knew existed "is this for real? Who makes this kind of shit? Is this even a thing?... For over a decade Robert Englund was the only actor to play Freddy Krueger with his tenure of the character lasting from 1984-2003. When the 2010 remake of the original Nightmare on Elm Street film came around though the studio would ultimately decide to recast the Freddy Krueger and have Watchmen actor Jackie Earle Haley take on the role. The remake would also include a few other key changes with the character of Freddy Krueger, that Robert Englund would not end up being a fan of. In the Nightmare on Elm Street film’s before the remake, Freddy Krueger was child murder before he became a dream demon, but in the remake Freddy Krueger is depicted as a sadistic pedophile. Robert Englund recently revealed in an interview that he felt that depicting Krueger as a pedophile was too far, with him even saying, “I’ve always thought that Freddy is described as a child killer. So when they made Freddy a child molester, that’s not what Freddy is, I don’t think.
