🎬 IF 📍 Cineworld Whiteley Watched: 24 May • A film done by John Krasinski, of course I had to go see it! • A film about a girl who is going through a difficult time sees everyone’s imaginary friends (IFs) who have been left behind. The movie is very touching and deals with bereavement, so I hope you’re prepared to tear up as I had moments of tearing up.🥲 A wonderful movie and definitely does get you thinking about your imaginary friend you may have outgrown. • • • #cinema #cinematrip #movie #film #cineworld #cineworldwhiteley #cineworldunlimited #filmopinion #movieopinion #filmreview #moviereview #IF #IFMovie #IFFilm #ImaginaryFriend #JohnKrasinski #RyanReynolds

The Holdovers (2023) Alexander Ryan directs a film that drips with 1970s nostalgia both in its setting and in its style. Slightly offbeat characters that you can sympathise with despite their deficiencies work through the problematical situation they are thrown into, whilst on the way revealing touching truths about their past with a rye smile. Superbly acted by everyone on the cast, right down to seen once or twice schoolmate characters, with lovely nostalgic 70s looking Boston backgrounds and at over 2 hours long for once the writer and director have paced their slight, and basically it is that, tale perfectly. Worth a viewing and if Hal Ashby and Bud Cort way back in the 1970s appealed to you then you'll love this #theholdovers #PaulGiamatti #AlexanderRyan #davidhemingson #DaVineJoyRandolph #schoolfilm #BartonSchool #boston #EliteSchool #PrivateSchool #curmudgeon #mentalhealth #vietnamwar #redemption #love #life #death #realfilmcricket #realfilmcricketopinion #filmreview #FILMOPINION #films #movie #movies My film opinion URL in the graphic My block URL in the bio

🎬 Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes 📍 Cineworld Whiteley Watched: 18 May • Went and watched this on the 18 May and had actually watched all the previous movies beforehand, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes & War of the Planet of the Apes. What can I say about the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, a great movie but… it kinda misses the mark. The previous three were amazing, from the story, the acting, each one was amazing. However for Kingdom, I found myself picking it apart throughout, the “villain” suffered from what I like to called Villain syndrome, they were defeated far too quickly. Saying all that, don’t get me wrong though, it’s great and i’d recommend anyone to go see it. • • • #cinema #cinematrip #movie #film #cineworld #cineworldwhiteley #cineworldunlimited #filmopinion #movieopinion #filmreview #moviereview #KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApes #ThePlanetOfTheApes #PlanetOfTheApes

The Road (2014) David Michod's sparse, violent near-future thriller set in the bleak and dusty Australian Outbook. This film channels the energy and style of the original Mad Max with a similar 'the world on the edge of full collapse' feel. Still, here Michod is much less comic-book and a lot more taciturn, grimy, violent, and realistic. Without a doubt, it can be said to be anti-Hollywood and this makes the film so good, or so bad depending on your point of view. The dialogue is sparse, with no real exposition and no likable 'hero' characters. The film's resolution is perfect. If you like violent, grimy films about one man's laser-focused determination whilst being vulnerable and lost, then The Rover is for you. If you like more explanation, characters you can side with and cheer on and films that make sense in a world that doesn't this is not for you. Woman at War (2018) is at its simplest a story of a woman fighting an eco-war against a huge Chinese-led industrial company building on the unspoilt Icelandic Highlands. It is unapologetic in its bias and that is okay but this can alienate those who feel they are being lectured to and to give the story a McGuffin there is a twist to Halla's tale in the form of a Ukranian orphan and as unlikely and as obvious as how this is resolved the biggest bugbear is the run time and pacing. At times the pace can seem glacial, no pun intended, and this really detracts from a film with a sincere message and an older middle-aged woman being the protagonist, doing Tom Cruise style evading the 'baddies' but having actual consequences on her life and indeed body. The acting and beautiful Icelandic scenery are strong points, but it is the seeming lack of editing skills that detracts from an interesting film. #womanatwar #icelandiccinema #englishasaforeignlanguage #subtitles #iceland #icelandhighlands #BenediktErlingsson #HalldĂłraGeirharĂ°sdĂłttir #realfilmcricket #realfilmcricketopinon #filmreview #FILMOPINION #films #movies #moviereview Blog URL in bio Film opinion URL in the graphic

🎬 The Flash 📍 NOW Watched: 14 April • My last watch before I cancelled NOW as I had watched everything that was available/interesting to me. What can I say about The Flash… well the beginning CGI and sprinkled throughout was… awful. Cinema, as I have reiterated time and again, is a sum total of many things put together. A solid story, earnest performances, taut editing, good cinematography and so on. Then there are those technical elements of art design, costumes, location, makeup et al. In short, a different ball game that not everyone is deft at. So, when I see fledging cinema bloggers applauding movies that fail on the above counts but trash some films just because they serve well wrapped propaganda I am disheartened by how myopic their understanding of cinema is. To call out distorted narratives is one thing but to negate good work just on the basis of that is unfair. Just like pushing something because it fits a certain ideological bent. This goes against the very tenet of art. I would rather that the audience is helped to gauge the viciousness and steer clear off it yet pat a good film because of the way it's made and the performances it was embellished with. If you ask me to make a list just based on these, I have so many names in mind. Joydeep Mukherjee's Adv Achinta Aich, a well laid out courtroom drama, is a recent addition to it. Great story ornamented by able performances. Honestly, the combination of Ritwick Chakraborty and Saswata Chatterjee is a hook here. To see the chemistry between these immensely talented actors on screen should propel any cinema lover to this series. But here's a catch. Chatterjee let's Chakraborty stand out by making himself go subtle. You don't need to focus on anyone but these two in this series. Chakraborty is the underdog with just the right amount of wit lacing his persona that makes him delightful to watch. Do note the unassuming way he carries himself till that spark of self assured confidence hits his vein. Chakraborty does it with a style and flourish. @ritwickchak_ @saswatachatterjeeofficial

A lot of people will not take this post in the right spirit. And that’s okay. Not everyone understands nuances. But as a lifestyle journalist who dabbles in art, culture, cinema, design and fashion, I have been discussing this with a lot of people. How the current scenario in areas of entertainment have encouraged shortcuts to success, instant gratification and the fleeting nature of popularity. A lot of it is intertwined with the concept of hard work, talent and everything associated with them. Let’s take for instant the remake of the superhit song Choli ke Peeche that for many reasons is one of my favourite dance numbers from 90s Hindi cinema. The music is a fabulous mix of commercial and Rajasthani folk, the costumes by Leena Daru are colourful, attractive and not vulgar at all, the ambience created is apt for the situation in the film and lastly, the dance by Madhuri Dixit. She is in a trance, as if she’s a nagin. The passion in her art is almost tangible! It’s not for nothing that this number composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal continues to hold many of us in thrall! And the raunchy lyrics? Come on! You want me to start on the crap we get to hear these days!? Now, let’s come to the remake of it, which somewhat is a joke after what the original was! The digitised music makes no sense because the musicians have just copy pasted stuff and rendered a lazy product that stopped trending soon after some other digitised nonsense hit social media! The costume… well, if only sticking assets out amounted to sensuality or exoticism! The dance? What dance! See, Kareena could be a favourite of many but for me she was never a performer as such. Neither a dancer. Honestly, the grace in Madhuri Dixit’s body was because she was trained in Kathak. If you read about the training in classical dance most heroines received earlier you will understand why their body language was charming, compared to the robots and mannequins you witness now! The way the hands move, the eyes talk, the hips sway and the feet tap… sab kuch shastriya nritya ki taleem se aataa tha! Continued in comments

Better Living Through Chemistry (2014) is made better because of Sam Rockwell but disappointingly familiar, with a really boring 'horrible' wife played by Michelle Monaghan, although released ten years ago, we are still seeing these seemingly unredeemable, nasty, controlling female roles nowadays. In real life it is generally men, but in Hollywood it is normally a wife. Nothing is really bad or poor in the film but the disappointment comes from the 'hack' familiarity and the feeling it could have been so much better. Watch it when you are really bored and have nothing better to do, but you will forget it or get it mixed up with a dozen other films when you try to recall it. #betterlivingthroughchemistry #SamRockwell #OliviaWilde #rayliotta #MichelleMonaghan #janefonda #comedyfilm #drugstore #realfilmcricket #filmreview #FILMOPINION Film URL in the graphic Blog URL in my bio

Bad Company (1972) directed by Robert Benton was a serious attempt at destroying the mythology of the West, set during the Civil War we see youngsters who have avoided conscription and have settled for a life of ugly, nasty, petty crime - robbing school children of pocket money for instance - and it does not glamourise it in any way. No one is a 'hero' and their moral compasses are poor if not broken. Everything is grubby and broken as the children, after all that is what they are, try to negotiate their way through a very adult world of crime and violence. The makers are pointing to the conscription of the Vietnam War here and the criminalisation of those that avoided it but if you don't want to see that, you don't have to. The film is 52 years old and is still as good as film and story as it was then. Highly recommended. #badcompany #thewest #wildwest #cowboys #robbers #bushwhackers #uscivilwar #conscription #davidbenton #jeffbridges #barrybrown #jonsavage #realfilmcricketopinion #realfilmcricket #filmopinion URL for Blog in bio URL for film opinion in graphic

Morgan (2016), very much in the mould of Hanna or Ex-Machina but trailing in their wake. Morgan tries to take an intellectual look at the moral questions of bio-engineering, artificial life and the uses and attitudes towards it but in the end gravitates towards a Terminator-like chase and kill-fest. It could have been loosely connected to how Roy Batty from Blade Runner came about but in the end fumbled the ball and became a bit of a mess. Characters come and go, and go permanently too, they do stupid things and everything is signposted minutes in. Do yourself a favour and watch Ex-Machina it is a much better film about a similar topic, and if you've seen it before, go and watch it again anyway.... #Morgan #RidleyScottismydad #LukeScott #sciencefiction #bioengineering #killerkid #assassins #KateMara #realfilmcricketopinion #filmcricket #realfilmcricket #filmreview #FILMOPINION #poorfilm Opinion URL in graphic Blog URL in bio

I'm here for the EPIC monster battles and super loud sound that only IMAX can deliver! I can't even go to other theaters anymore, because they're not loud enough. Dolby is -7db off reference, and the Big D must have been -15db from reference. I can't watch movies that way. I wouldn't be surprised if the CGI is using the 2016 texture pack. I'm about to get slapped by digital filmmaking here, and it might hurt. There's probably more green-screens than even Kong is comfortable with, but let's hope Warner Bros. focused on what really matters – the ear-shattering bass! Fingers crossed they didn't compress it like they did in Aquaman 2. We're in row 3 today, so we should feel the full force of the monsters roars! #GodzillaXKong #IMAX #SoundExperience #FilmedForIMAX #MovieOpinion #MovieOpinions #FilmOpinion #FilmOpinions #Filmmaking #Film #Filmmaker #Cinematography #Cinema #Director #Movies #Movie #Photography #Filmmakers #FilmProduction #SetLife #BehindTheScenes #Videography #Camera #Cinematic #VideoProduction #IndependentFilm #FilmEditing #SoundDesign #FilmCrew #FilmCommunity

🎬 Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire 📍 Cineworld Whiteley • Friday’s cinema trip. 😊 To prep myself I actually watched Ghostbusters Afterlife Thursday night. • My thoughts on Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, is that it follows on nicely from Afterlife, the family are now back in the home of Ghostbusters, New York. I enjoyed the movie, but I came out thinking, they made out Garakka to be this almighty villain and him being released. But upon being released, he’s defeated quite easily and quickly, a bit of shame in my opinion. Otherwise, I enjoyed it, the returning characters from the originals, though if anything, they tried to cram in to many characters. Past Lives (2023) Celine Song wrote and directed this gentle and sensitive romance, based on a part of her own life. It is an adult and sensible take on the 'what-if' scenario that can often pop up in people's lives when they are settled with someone and an old flame or childhood crush turns up. In this case, there is no shouting, rowing or passionate infidelity and the film is all the better for it. You will guess how it resolves and how you guess is only how you feel about it and only you. This is a love story for thinking, gentle people who are tired of the rom-com format and want to see something loving, gentle a bit sad and a bit funny. #review #recensioni #cinema #recensionifilm #film #cibemaitaliano #cinematography #cinemalover #reviewtime #filmopinion #picoftheday #blogger #bloggeritalia #lifestyle #following #followforfollowback #follow #followme #instablog #inatapic #instalike #instablog #instagram #cultura #filmography #filmografia #bloggerdicinema #follow4followback

the_real_film_cricket's profile picture Winter Kills (1979) a film that could probably do with a film being made about the 'making of' although it would seem as absurd as the actual film. A conspiracy theory story, very much the JFK assassination poorly disguised Winter Kills plays for fun as much as it does a dark murderous tale. Bridges and Huston front a fine cast where everyone gives there all despite tonally the ride gets a bit wobbly and you never quite know how each scene will be handled. Sadly these days there are large sections of society that would see this fiction as absolute fact but at the time it was clearly meant to be fun, intriguing and preposterous. So bearing that in mind Winter Kills is a film watching just for the heck of it and as it is somewhat obscure you have probably never seen it before. Give it a go.... #winterkills #jeffbridges #johnhuston #belindabauer #elizabethtaylor #thriller #conspiracy #assassination #jfk #williamrichert #realfilmcricket #realfilmcricketopinion #filmreview #filmopinion URL for Blog in header URL for film in graphic

Review: ‘The Zone of Interest’. If I could sum up the Jonathan Glazer’s masterpiece in one sentence it would be - give him the bloody Oscar. But Oscar is not enough to recognise the immense talent behind the creation of one of the best films of our times. It’s rare. It’s rare to see the astounding quality of a film that delivers on every possible level of film making to an absolute perfection. It’s unheard of to see a movie wrapped around the worst human tragedy in the history of humanity producing a stunningly beautiful cinematography where every scene is a triumph of design and photography. It’s astonishing to witness a screenwriting that embodies both sophistication and simplicity, you can’t add or subtract anything. Besides the completely new perspective on the history of Holocaust which was brilliantly told in an equally magnificent classic “Schindler’ list”, ‘The Zone of Interest’ is not for the faint of hearts due to its psychological superpower. Whilst there is not a single scene showing the actual life of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Glazer transports us into the deeply chilling understanding of what’s happening behind the wall separating the “picture perfect” family life of Rudolf Hoss and the people experiencing the worst savagery known to human kind. The 106 minutes film worth every second of our time and Jonathan Glazer deserves a 106 standing ovations. Photo credit A24

🐍Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 🐍 - On the positive side, the set design and special effects were impressive. The attention to detail in recreating the mysterious atmosphere of the chamber was commendable. The visual elements truly transported me into the magical world, and I appreciated the effort put into making it visually captivating. - However, the pacing of the story left much to be desired. At times, it felt rushed, making it difficult to fully immerse myself in the narrative. Certain plot points lacked the depth and development that fans of the series might expect. Additionally, some of the character performances felt a bit forced, lacking the authenticity that makes the wizarding world so enchanting. • • • #ChamberOfSecrest #MixedFeelingsReview #MagicWorld #VisualEnchantment #SetDesign #SpecialEffects #WizardingExperience #FanExpectations #HoChamberExperience #MagicalJourney #EnchantingVisuals #MovieReview #StoryPacing #CharacterPerformances #HarryPotterFans #WizardingWorld #MovieMagic #FantasyAdventure #FilmCritique #ThreeStarRating #CinematicExperience #MagicalAtmosphere #FilmOpinion #MovieNight #FilmLovers #FilmCommunity #honestreview

Highway to the braking zone. I love race cars, and I also think Tom Cruise is a good actor, and this film is exactly that, and that's why I like it. This film takes viewers into the adrenaline-fueled world of NASCAR racing, weaving a tale of rivalry, determination, and the pursuit of victory. (nascar 🤢) Tom Cruise delivers a charismatic performance as a talented but hot-headed race car driver. The supporting cast's performances enhance the overall ensemble, bringing depth to the characters and the racing world they inhabit. This includes Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Michael Rooker, and John C. Reilly (🐐's). The height difference between Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman was baffling me; it's funny and weird to look at. But their scenes together are pretty good, especially in the parking lot. A racing movie soundtrack by HANS ZIMMER??? Didn't expect that tbh While "Days of Thunder" may follow a somewhat formulaic sports movie plot, it stands out with its intense racing sequences, strong performances, and the dynamic portrayal of the competitive spirit within the world of NASCAR. Anyways, it's an entertaining watch for both racing enthusiasts and general audiences. 🎬 The Beekeeper 📍 Cineworld Whiteley • Went to see this Tuesday and this was great. I had my reservations as the last Jason Statham movie I saw in cinema was Meg 2 and that wasn’t the greatest. However, The BeeKeeper was awesome, gave me that excitement when I watched Jason Statham in the Transporter for the first time. Jason Statham as Adam Clay was fantastic, like an unstoppable warrior! • • • #cinema #cinematrip #movie #film #cineworld #cineworldwhiteley #cineworldunlimited #filmopinion #movieopinion #filmreview #moviereview #TheBeekeeper #JasonStatham #JoshHutcherson

The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972) directed by John Huston who apparently ignored writer John Milius so much that this was the film that made him decided to direct himself so his vision could actually be seen. To be fair the man had a point the story is bitty, the narrative, what there is, all over the place. Roy Bean is a sort comedic rapscallion, and the end of the film drifts into wishful thinking fantasy that doe not just ignore history but ties it up in a bag, weighs it down and tosses it into the ocean. Having said that the cast, seemingly let lose to act how they feel, make for an entertaining film, and if you are prepared to forego any historic accuracy and ignore what the tone of the film is, you should enjoy yourself. Paul Newman after all, often makes a film worth watching URL for Blog in Bio URL for review in graphic #thelifeandtimesofjudgeroybean #paulnewman #johnhuston #victoriaprincipal #westernfilm #westernmovies #cowboy #texas #pecos #filmopinion #filmreview #realfilmcricketopinon

Wonka (2023) another big popular well-loved and remembered character for director and writer Paul King (with Simon Farnaby) to take on but like the Paddington films before he has proved he understands the nuances and fun you must have in these types of films. You are walking on sacred ground and you must treat it with respect but not make it boring and like some weird worship. King does not do this, what we have is a cast of crazy, fun and lovely characters, all played to the hilt by the actors, giving us fast-paced, colourful, fun, with laughter, songs, dancing, tears and nostalgia all mixed in together. Like Timothy in the picture, I doff my hat to you all. A must watch if you have a soul. Meg 2: The Trench (2023) A poor effort by all involved to cash in a fairly poor premise to start with. Lazy writing, lazy character development and what there is in place to make the Stath look indestructible, he is, and get from one monstrous set-piece to the next. The baddies are set up in the early part of the movie, why one of them isn't called Sir Jasper Naughty-Bonce I don't know because that would be more subtle. Some of the effects are really ropey, especailly when thing are on the surface of the water, some the Megs look okay in certain scenes, but this is not enough to save this utterly moronic film. If people like this any want more - then I'm going to have to reevaluate whether it is worth watching films anymore. Utter tripe. #meg #meg2 #meg2thetrench #jason #jasonstatham #film #filmopinion #realfilmcricket URL for Blog in the bio URL for film opinon in the graphic

😘The Kissing Booth💋 - The storyline lacked depth and originality, following the typical high school romance narrative without offering anything new or refreshing. The characters, though portrayed by talented actors, seemed one-dimensional, and their development felt rushed and superficial. It was challenging to connect with them on a meaningful level, as their actions often lacked justification or believable motivations. - The dialogue was cringe-worthy at times, relying heavily on tired stereotypes and overused tropes. The attempts at humor felt forced and often missed the mark, leaving me more frustrated than amused. Additionally, the film’s pacing seemed uneven, with certain scenes dragging on while others were hastily wrapped up. • • • #KissingBoothReview #TwoStarMovie #TeenDramaDisappointment #PredictablePlot #ClichéOverload #SuperficialCharacters #CrudeDialogue #MissedHumor #FormulaicStoryline #LackingOriginality #NotRecommended #MovieCritique #FilmOpinion #MovieNightLetdown #HighSchoolRomanceGoneWrong #ShallowPlot #MovieReview #FilmAnalysis #UnderwhelmingPerformance #LostPotential #NotForMe #mehmovie
