Jeremy Taylor states he will not resign from his seat on the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors in the wake of his wife's voter fraud conviction last week. Taylor said on Tuesday he plans to complete his term on the board but did offer to resign from his position as vice chair next week. “This will be a distraction,” board chair Matthew Ung said. “He is doing the public a disservice by not stepping down.” Last week, a federal jury convicted Taylor's wife, Kim, of 52 counts of voter fraud that government prosecutors say was part of a scheme to stuff the ballot box for her husband, who ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for a U.S. House seat in the 2020 primary before winning election to the Board of Supervisors that fall. Three of the five members of the Board of Supervisors: Ung, Mark Nelson, and Dan Bittinger — contacted by The Journal — called on him to voluntarily step aside. The fifth member, Keith Radig, declined to comment. #今日のレコード #お蔵出し うわー強烈に写り込んでるな。ご容赦ください。さて今週のお蔵出し盤は『カインド・オブ・ブルー』リリース50周年記念と称して世に出回った謎レコード。『カインド・オブ・ブルー』をまるごとレゲエでカバーしたトチ狂った企画盤です。オリジナル全曲を片面でカバーして、B面には同じく全曲のダブバージョンを収録するという徹底ぶり。2009年にアナログ盤のみで発売されて、なぜかそのとき新品で買ったんですよね（「¥2190」という値札が貼ってあって、そうあのころは1ドルが100円を割り込んでいた…）。15年近く経った今ではそれなりにお高くなっているようで、ただし音自体はサブスクで聴けるようになっています。ジャケットにはクレジット一切なし。ただしネットで検索すると「ジェレミー・テイラー」なる人物の作品として取り扱われています。で、それ以上の詳細については amazon.co.jp での本作のCD盤（後年発売された）の商品説明に事細かに書いてあります。どうやら'81年録音らしいとか。ジャマイカのスタジオミュージシャンをニューヨークに呼んで録音させたものらしいとか。ただの珍盤と呼ぶにはなかなかにクオリティ高くて侮れないです。サブスクでチェックしてみてください。 #jeremytaylor
Wonderful binding and printer’s ornaments with a brief history of Pickering Publishing and Booksellers of the 19th century. William Pickering (1796–1854) was apprenticed to a London bookseller and publisher in 1810. In 1820 he set up his own bookshop, specialising in the antiquarian trade, and immediately started publishing. His first major project was the miniature Diamond Classics, comprising reprints of Latin, Italian, Greek and English literature. They were followed by the Oxford English Classics and new editions of Edmund Spenser, John Milton, Francis Bacon and William Shakespeare. In 1828 he met Charles Whittingham, who was to be his chief printer, and in the same year he adopted the dolphin and anchor device used by the Venetian printer Aldus Manutius (1449–1515) (National Library of Australia, n.d.). In 1842 Pickering, moved from Chancery Lane to Piccadilly. After his death in 1854 the business was carried on by his son, Basil Montagu Pickering, who established himself as a bookseller in 1858, where he remained until his death in 1878 (British History, 2019). The business was then bought by Andrew Chatto, becoming Pickering and Chatto, which would eventually become an imprint of the multinational publisher, Routledge (Pickering & Chatto, 2014). - William Pickering has been credited to being one of the first publishers to bind in cloth during the early 19th century. - Pickering died in 1853 (the same year this book was published) shorty after being declared bankrupt (British History, 2019). - Pickering & Chatto are still in business today residing at 1st Clement’s Court in London as antiquarian booksellers. Jeremy Taylor was a minister in the Church of England. Here he talks about exercises for holy living. He speaks of the mechanisms in our bodies for charity: the eye sees, the heart or bowels will feel and have pity, and the port produces alms. He says it’s harder to have pity on that which you do not see. He says when you do see a case of need, “we must pity”, and that it is the providence of God that has provided us with means specifically for this charity. The one who is in your sight or in your neighborhood has “fallen into the lot of” your charity. Today, do we verily object at having to see cases of need? That were more apt to take state action against minority pedestrians, immigrants and asylum seekers, homeless director, to keep from even erring cases of need? Reading Jeremy Taylor, who died OTD 13 August 1667. Although little known and seldom read today, Rev. Jeremy Taylor (1613–1667) was one of the most beloved and controversial theologians during the reigns of Charles I and his son Charles II. Questa è l'unica stampa in vinile mai fatta di questa gemma, che venne registrata grazie all'intraprendenza del professore della New York University Jeremy Taylor nel 1981, con l'ausilio di grandissimi musicisti giamaicani. Purtroppo Taylor morì poco dopo ed il disco divenne una sorta di Sacro Graal duplicato di cassetta in cassetta in una versione davvero lo-fi.
