The beauty of the embrace is explored in the new exhibit, Embracing Divinity: A State of Grace on view now at our Palm Beach location until May 30th. A highlight of the exhibit is Francesco Botti’s nocturnal scene immersed in a soft moonlight, with amorous and languid connotations: Paris and Helen flee, infatuated with each other. Their actions ultimately led to the Trojan Wars. Botti (Florence 1645-1711) painted this picture in his youth, interpreting the romantic escape as only a young man could do. Through my sketches and paintings, laim to portray the tunbridled joy and wonder that children bring to the world. Their faces are a canvas of raw emotion, from pure happiness to genuine curiosity. It’s amazing how much can be conveyed through a simple expression. Drawing children is a reminder to embrace our own inner child and to find joy in the simple things in life. I’ll be in Berlin for another month or so. One shouldn’t pass on the #gemaldegalerie which has one of the most stunning collections of paintings by dead white #European men any place. Here are seven of my favorites, in part or in whole. Boy, could these guys paint. I often wish for a pair of running shoes in what passes before art today. Here I just want a comfy sofa, and the promise that I can come back. And because these paintings are in a #museum, I can. On view, the first two are anonymous - lovely, abstract flow of the drapery on the #madonna, no? then a #cranach, a $durer (both painted on curved panel) a #deheem on loan from a #ukraine museum that has had its building ravaged by the evil Russians, an #Adam and #Eve with goofy feet by #Dumont and a very mysterious #Magdalena by Meister of the Diehl Magadelena (of whom, he was from #Holland. Joos van Cleve and a collaborator - Virgin and Child. 1525. Antwerp. “Two iconographic themes are combined in this splendid painting: the joys of motherhood and the sorrowful premonition of Christ’s death. The sleeping infant is traditionally understood as a prefiguration of the dead Christ embraced by the Virgin, known as the Pietà. Contemplating her devotional reading, Mary points to her prayer book, in which two pages are legible. Taken from the Magnificat (Luke 1:54–55), celebrating the Annunciation, and the De Profundis (Psalm 130:1–2), used in the Mass for the dead, the verses foreshadow the Virgin’s rejoicing in the fulfillment of Christ’s destiny and her suffering at her son’s death.” - Description by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
