Young parents decide to live in a forest with their 6 kids away from all social normative, teaching them what they believe is necessary to live a better life. As story evolves main character is forced to question his choices and compromise. It is so hard to be “a good” parent, and I liked they way it is portrayed in this story. Ben presto dovranno fare i conti con la realtà, perché la società seppur tossica di base, vive da tutt'altra parte.. Si nota la volgarità di un sistema capitalistico americano, finto, di facciata perfetto, ma basato sul libero mercato e a tratti contro natura (che oramai è anche il nostro di modello), andare dal lato opposto da quello preposto dal padre di famiglia Ben (Viggo Mortensen) , un sistema più a contatto con la natura, libertario, anarco-primitivista e spirituale. Purtroppo ciò cozza con la società per com'è strutturata e quindi ci troviamo due esempi di eccessi che, se da un lato si concentra sulla competizione e sull'economia danneggiando i più, dall'altra si auto concentra su se stessa e su un senso di giustizia troppo personale, finendo per egocentrizzarsi nella figura del padre survivalista. Il film ci mostra come gli eccessi sono sempre dannosi, ma se viene trovato un varco per creare libertà intorno a noi insieme alla società, può esserci uno spiraglio di miglioramento nel mondo. Tra cast (Samantha Isler, George Mackay Annalise Basso, Kathryn Hahn, Franck Langella etc), interpretazione e dialoghi azzeccati il film scorre col giusto ritmo fino alla fine, la storia è scritta bene e diventa un film obbligatorio da vedere.
