Time to relax after a long day at work with my girlfriend and enjoy a horror movie at home for tonight! From 2018, "Hereditary"! I haven’t seen this movie since I saw it in theaters and when I originally watched the film, I was a little confused by what all happened in the film perhaps the second viewing will help me understand it a little better. This isn’t your typical type of horror film that’s for sure but then again that is what A24 usually does when they do horror movies. This will be Emily’s first time seeing the movie, so I’ll be very curious to see what she thinks of it, especially with a couple of those scenes that had the entire internet talking lol! The Leftovers (2014-2017) WTF I just watched, but in a good way At one point, 2% of the world's population simply disappears. 140 million people simply evaporated, seemingly at random and without any reasonable explanation. Three years later, the world is still struggling with this trauma, and the three seasons of this series follow that struggle over the next four years. All three seasons are very different, thematically, atmospherically, tempo-wise, and one could even say genre-wise. What they have in common is that two-thirds of the time you'll have no idea what the hell is going on and why. From the premise, through the situations it causes, to individual human reactions, everything is completely insane. But once you manage to accept that craziness, the story takes on some internal logic of its own and is quite consistent with it. You will get answers to a very small number of questions right away, to many by the end of the season, to some you will forget until you are reminded of them by the denouement in the next season, and many remain a mystery left to free interpretation until the end. If you're looking for a sensible story that ultimately gives you a rounded denouement and satisfaction, bypass "The Leftovers" in a wide arc. Viggo Mortensen es uno de mis actores preferidos, también uno bien infravalorado. Por eso, hablo hoy, de una película un poco olvidada que sabe como cautivar. Una historia muy buena sobre las familias poco comunes. Captain fantastic: Ben (Viggo Mortensen) es un padre hippie anarco socialista que junto a su esposa, crían a sus hijos superdotados, fuera del sistema normativo. No obstante, la esposa de él muere. Siendo viudo, decide llevarse a sus hijos hacia la civilización moderna donde se verán contrastada su visión tan poco ortodoxa de crianza. Dirigida y escrita por Matt Ross, nos da una película que es tanto un estudio sobre esta familia como sobre el duelo que sufren todos ellos. La narrativa nos presenta, lo que puedo llamar la utopía de una comuna hippie de los 60's, en esta familia grande con un padre inteligente que le enseña a sus hijos ser independientes, críticos y libres de los esquemas de la sociedad en la que viven. No obstante, la perdida de la madre causa un roadtrip en que los niños serán expuestos a nuestra cotidianidad. Siendo en gran medida una ingeniosa forma de denotar las falacias de la sociedad estadounidense moderna, como también la falta de habilidades sociales que tienen los hijos. Creando una dinámica de comedia ácida muy buena, como un estudio sobre su carácter. Además de que las varias referencias literarias son muy buenas y la discusion de temas filosóficos igualmente. Es una familia que es de mente abierta y logra incomodar a varias personas, siendo esa la razón por la cual es muy genial toda la dinámica que tienen todos. Con una dirección poco ortodoxa, con una puesta en cámara en mano que lo hace sentir semi documental y realista. Como si estuviéramos viendo las vidas de estas personas diariamente, además la forma de encuadrar los ojos y como captura las expresiones es genial. Ame la libertad que es regida por la cámara y el montaje con esos cortes rápidos es muy buena. Además de las actuaciones en que todos están muy bien, en especial McKay y Hamilton. Con Mortensen dando una gran muestra de su capacidad actoral. (Termina abajo)

The first season of the show was a shocking display of how toxic patriarchy takes over a country. The women in the country are treated more like cattle grouped into different categories to serve different purposes of the men in the affluent side of the society. Even the wives are treated like doormats, with all of them having no choice, but to serve at the whims and fancies of their masters. The second season took it up a notch because all the violence that was buried deep down had to boil over some day. Films I Consider Perfect (Vol 2) ⬇️ I rarely give a 10/10 rating, but within the last two months, I’ve seen two films I consider “masterpieces”. Now, while I don’t believe any film is truly flawless, these are some of the ones that, in my opinion, come as close to perfection as possible. HER: This is a beautiful, poignant and thought provoking film about love and the importance of human connection. Everything about the movie is stunning, from Phoenix and Johansson’s chemistry, to the cinematography and colour grading perfectly capturing the tone and characters’ feelings. The Pianist: World War II films are often harrowing, but few convey devastation and loss quite like The Pianist. Not an easy movie to sit through, but one expertly crafted and brilliantly acted - especially from Adrien Brody in his Oscar winning performance. The Dark Knight: Here it is. The greatest comic book movie of all time, and it isn’t even close. This is Nolan firing on all cylinders with the very best film of his career. Impeccably paced with heart pounding action, a stunning score, and Heath Ledger’s iconic Joker performance, this is everything a Batman film should be, and then some. Mass: When a movie is able to convey so much while doing very little, that’s a sign of truly great filmmaking. Mass takes timely subject matter and strips it down to a simple four person conversation. "Not quite the car crash I was expecting" isn't really much of a compliment, is it? The Exorcist: Believer is the latest in a long line of Exorcist sequels and exorcism movies in general, and for the most part it fails to avoid the pitfalls that make so many entries in this subgenre so devoid of life, human or otherwise. There are flashes of good storytelling here, mainly during the early stages surrounding the girls' disappearance, and some of the visual choices are effective at least in small doses, as the literal darkness does add to the sense of foreboding and unease. Having said that, so much of this is very entry level horror, with long passages full of empty religious cliches and some incredibly poor attempts at linking back to the original. The scares are both telegraphed and (mostly) extremely unoriginal, resulting in an unsatisfying viewing experience drawn out for the better part of two hours. Die Anti-Depressiva können in der Packung bleiben...💊 Während June versucht, nach der Flucht aus Gilead ihr Leben in Toronto in den Griff zu kriegen, arbeitet Serena an einem umfangreichen Racheplan. Diese hat nämlich erfahren, dass June ein gesetzloses Exempel an Serenas Ehemann statuiert hat. Gleichzeitig lernt Serena schmerzlich auch die andere Seite eines Gilead-Haushalts kennen und Commander Lawrence tut alles dafür, Gilead in den Augen der Welt wieder gesellschaftsfähig zu machen. Dank Amazon Prime können wir uns die fünfte Staffel der bisher zumindest meist recht depressiven Serie "reinbingen". Mit 10 Episoden a ca. 50 Min. hat die Staffel eine gute Länge und schafft es, sehr viel Handlung in diese Episoden zu verpacken. Gott sei Dank halten sich die Macher in dieser Staffel mit deprimierenden Schicksalen zumindest großteils zurück. Deswegen ist man am Ende der Staffel nicht ganz so sehr am Boden, wie in den Staffeln zuvor. Nicht falsch verstehen. Leichte Kost ist "The Handmaid's Tale" nie. Immerhin geht es um einen fiesen Gottes-Staat, der seine Bürger unterdrückt und nun auch noch expandieren will. Da kann ja nichts Gutes bei rauskommen. Staffel 5 ist nicht ganz so fesselnd wie die Staffeln zuvor, spinnt die Geschichte um June aber interessant weiter. A haunting masterpiece that psychologically slithers into the viewer’s mind and refuses to leave. As per typical American horror movies, some people think that the movie is simply scary just to be scary. The truly intriguing details are completely glossed over when viewers are first trying to untangle the plot. Instead of constantly and solely relying on jump scares, this film slowly builds and becomes intensified as the characters figure out their own instincts will always eventually betray them. Many people have qualms about how Hereditary’s plot feels confusing or unclear but I believe that is the entire point. I feel as if the perplexing plot fuels the horror aspect of the movie. Those who gave the movie a negative review (possibly) seemed to want a straightforward horror movie which, unfortunately for them, this isn’t. This movie forces people to face traumatizing visuals and think through multiple interpretations of every single scene. One major theme in the movie is family emotionally manipulating their loved ones. At one point in the movie every single character exploits another one. Family tragedy turned into family manipulation through the portrayal of grief and loss. Toni Collette’s character, Annie, is shown to go through countless periods of grief, almost never ending. Every single character in this movie seems to have their own unique characteristics that draws people in and keeps them intrigued. From the miniscule facial expressions Alex Wolfe makes to the captivating vocal performance of Toni Collette, this movie is truly a masterpiece. Along with the characters, the soundtrack is also absolutely immaculate. The past two months have been unprecedented for me personally. This piece was supposed to be out in December, and it isn’t an excuse, but sometimes you just get tired. I kept putting off, but thankfully it’s done and can be shared. “Mass” is one of my favorite movie watching experiences. It represents everything I love about the film medium. Personal storytelling. Minimal locations. Few characters. Everything is so bare that every other thing that the director and actors choose to include in this story means that much more. In this piece, I’ve stuck to talking mostly about the emotional elements of “Mass”. The way people react to the worst things that could ever happen to them. How time affects the way you cope with that tragedy. But there was a lot of technical decisions about this film that adds to the layers of storytelling. The aspect ratio changes. The way the camera blocks the character individually in one shot and frames them together in another. The lack of a musical score and the emphasis on silence. “Mass” means a great deal to me and I truly believe everyone should take some time to watch and see how a story opens up as it goes on. #Hereditary (2018) Aunque el inicio es algo difuso con el paso de los minutos esta película de #terror #sobrenatural empieza a tener momentos bastante interesantes siendo alguno de ellos de esconderse dejado de la manta o al menos de tener la intención de intentarlo si eres algo asustadiz@ (Actualización: 14/04/2024) Vuelvo a ver pasados unos cuantos años esta película de #terror #sobrenatural #familia con mucha curiosidad. De qué trata? a destacar sin duda el apartado visual y el tratamiento de la imagen (ahí están esos primeros planos), pero también su sonido (a destacar esa b.s.o) o también la falta del mismo con esos silencios (me ha gustado ese detalle). Pero de qué trata? la pérdida, el trauma que origina una pérdida, las consecuencias del trauma sufrido tras una pérdida. Los últimos minutos son frenéticos, de locos.
