I’d heard the story of Paul’s conversion, when God knocked him off his horse. . But I’d never heard what happened next. . I never considered how he’d be welcomed (or not) from the Christians he’d previously persecuted. . Especially Jesus’ disciples! . The first reading from the 5th Sunday of Easter is this story in Acts 9:26-31. . It must have been a bit of an awkward moment when Paul, formally Saul approached the disciples. . They didn’t know God had changed Paul’ heart. . They didn’t know God had a bigger plan for Paul. . They only knew Paul’s past. . It was ONE man who stood up for Paul and told the disciples to give him a chance. . I love this! . It causes me to pause to reflect on how I can be the ONE person to give someone a chance, or that I need let go of preconceived notions about someone I’ve heard bad things about an allow them to share their story. . Despite many challenges, our dedicated instructors Jesse Moreno, Amanda Thomas, and Rex Whisman, kept Alberto on track. Alberto was candid with instructor Jesse Moreno, revealing personal struggles and concerns about his future. ACDF instructors formed a connection with Alberto, and we’re #ACSOProud of their support during his recovery and personal development journey. “Alberto is not the same person he was when he started this program,” said Jesse on his graduation day. “He is a mature, self-aware individual who has put his faith in God. He sees life differently now…full of opportunity, regardless of the obstacles.” Alberto is now encouraging his fellow inmates to join the GED program. The instructors touted that a recent class welcomed three new students, all motivated by Alberto. There was a time when I didn’t love Jesus.. Not that I hated Him, I just didn’t know Him. April 2008 is when that all changed! So every time April rolls around again, I am reminded of that decision I made at only 17 years old. The people who really knew me back then and know me now can attest to the change that came. Some change was instant, some overtime and still expecting to in the future. Darkness to light, depression to joy, hopeless to hope filled. A new creation! Creation in itself is enough for me to love my creator. I just look outside and I’m in awe. But as time went on after that first April, I began to love my God for many reason. First and foremost, what other God sacrificed His own life for its creation? Forever I will praise His name for that reason alone. But second, is the pure undeserved grace he pours into my life daily. I will be the first to admit that I make mistakes and make decisions that have turned into regrets but again and again His arms are open to me. And although I stumble and fall and feel like a failure often, He keeps showering me with love, strength and peace. It doesn’t mean I always get what I want. He’s no genie! Sometimes He answers prayers with a no, or not yet but I’ve learned to trust Him in that. I couldn’t do life without Him now! I am completely 100% in love with Jesus and who He is. I believe and have been convinced of His love wholeheartedly. I have no fear of the future knowing He is with me. ❤️ Celebrating this April knowing His love is unchanging. 🙏 #jesusfreak #christian #changed #celebration #thankful
