God’s People Have A Security That Can Come By No Other Way But Christ. That Security Tears Down The Turmoil That Assails Us. . We live in a world filled with constant turmoil. The result of that turmoil is that there is a constant need for learning to cope. It is most fascinating to watch as the “coaching” industry has grown exponentially. Within the church, there are many, many pastors and teachers that make the claim that every person in the church should be in therapy of some kind. They say this is the only way to deal with the things in life where you fall short or it is the only way to accomplish “self-improvement”. That thinking is found no where in Scripture. In fact, God tells us He has given us EVERYTHING we need for life and godliness (2 PTR. 1:3) This thinking is seen as simplistic and naive by many. It is biblical, and for the disciple of Christ, that is the paramount issue. In our passage, David had fled from his son Absalam from his own palace. He does not know what will happen, but one thing he does know. His God will give him the peace he needs and the ability to sleep in the midst of the turmoil. Notice David states emphatically “in peace I will”. “Peace” here means welfare, completeness and soundness. The idea here is that of a total lack of tension by these circumstances because God is in the tension with you. This does not mean that we will always experience these things perfectly every time. What it does mean is that God will move us closer and closer to that the more we trust in Him. Notice how David is confident in his trust. “I will”. David knows the faithfulness of God in time of trouble, this is what is going to happen. Lastly David reminds us where our security comes from. It is from God alone. It is not God plus any coaching. It is not God plus the “7 Steps To Spiritual Wisdom”. It is not God plus the “Be a Better Human” online course. Its just God. He is enough. Her early childhood enjoyed the stability of a functioning family and the freedom to explore her passion for poetry and literature. Her life changed significantly when her father suffered a mental breakdown and her family faced serious financial difficulties. During a season of instability and loneliness , Rossetti’s faith was encouraged and strengthened by the spirituality of the Anglo-Catholic movement in the Church of England. As a young woman, she became an accomplished poet, working within the pre-Raphaelite circle of artists. Her celebrated book, “Goblin Market and Other Poems,” positioned her as one of the most significant poets of her time. She was equally active as a social reformer, devoting her energy to improving the conditions of the poor and homeless. She advocated for the dignity of women and the abolition of slavery. Her experiences in Christian ministry inspired many of her greatest poems. Today, she is most remembered for her poem, “In the Bleak Midwinter,” which was later turned into one of history’s most cherished Christmas hymns. John 3:16 is a proof of that. John 3:16 says, ’For God so love the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.’ A song I was taught growing up also says, “Jesus’ love is so high we can never get above it, so wide we can never get around it, so deep we can never get under it.” Meaning no matter how far or high or deep we think we’ve gone or can ever go in sin, we’re still contained within His love. I’d also like to think it to mean if it ever comes to a point where there’s a Grammy award for the most loving person on earth, that person will still only be taking baby steps if compared to Jesus. Hence, the one who can love us better than ourselves is Jesus. Although this truth was revealed to keep us from sinning, all we’ve ever done is the exact opposite of it. “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 Christians should expect trial; we should be resolved that trial is on its way. And when it arrives we should nod our heads knowingly. We should take a breath and brace our shoulders for the impact. Even though trials are to be expected, for those who have been taken through, the expectation does not soften the blow or alter how consuming they can be. We know the pain that constricts our chest, the scattering of thoughts, and how unstable the ground under foot can feel. Trials expose our weakness; our frailty. And that exposing process is painful but it is necessary, because when we are weak He is shown to be all the more strong. When we are incapable, His capability is on full, unbridled display. By the grace of God, we are not mere man experiencing life’s hardships by ourselves. It will not be by our grit or skilled navigation alone that we will be able to endure, but rather a perseverance relying on one thing alone. The truth. The truth that while trials are to be expected, we can be even more confident of the comfort sure to come and the Comforter in whose hands we are in. We are also invited to look forward to the lessons we are sure to learn and await the coming growth of our faith. Which through testing, trying, stretching , and molding, is purified. For even in trial, if God is for us, of what note is it then that all else might be against us? When God Pushes a Pause When the soul is tired God pushes a pause Leading one tenderly With His gentle rod. To stroll in His gardens While in a closet of clothes Never too far To hear every woe. I read it now from a different perspective, from a new season. All that empty space that was created when I was made new has been filled. God who began a work in me, a story written by Him, has continued to fill those places with his promises. I want to encourage you to let go of what you think your life should “look like” & let the Author of Life rewrite your story. Even if you have to feel the pain of pages being torn out. It’s time I re-introduce myself here — mostly because it’s snowing in my last introduction photo, which is an absurdly inaccurate representation of my day-to-day life in Bangkok where the heat index is currently 43° C (110° F) — but also because a lot of you are new followers and this is my 100th post! 😄 🙋🏽♂️ I’m Thai American, born and raised in Southern California and now living and doing ministry in Bangkok, Thailand. Last week was 4 years since I ✨stupidly✨ let a stranger walk in my front door. Don’t judge too hard, I had my reasons! 😆 1. My male roommate was home 2. It was peak COVID so nothing else was open for a first date. 3. We both worked at Walmart (but hadn’t ever met there) so we figured we had the same germs. 😂 A unique experience. What could go wrong? I had my besties on speed dial in case I needed an “emergency” to get out of the date. 🚨 He came over, I was hoping for this to be quick, regretting my decision to invite a man from Tinder over. 🤣 3 hours go by and it felt like we had known each other forever. My friends texting me, asking it I had died. I said something along the lines of “oh no, I think I really like him.” And we both kind of knew, all it took was one night. One night and he brought a peaceful spirit that I knew I could never let go of. Haven’t you heard how I once lived my life in deep fear? or how I once walked aimlessly while constantly looking over my shoulder for my past, haunting after me? In my wanderings, Christ found me, even as a mass of shame hovered over me. In His graciousness, He taught me how I can dig a grave at the backwood of my soul and lay to rest my very dark secrets. But most of all, In His faithful love He took me in bare, undone, and washed off my shame, He clothed me with dignity and set me on the same seat among His precious sons and daughters. Chapter 31 🌸 07.04.24 Time for spring cleaning, time for weaning, when a baby is done with milk, it hungers for food, milk no longer satisfies, the thirst for growth, it’s time for spring cleaning, a new season has emerged, it’s coming by force, everything you have prayed for, shaken and stirred, ready and expectant, had so many disappointments that one more wouldn’t hurt haha or maybe it would? Sometimes my lack of faith scares me. I illustrate it like this: I’m on the edge of a steep cliff, where it immediately drops down and I can’t see the bottom. My head fills with “what ifs,” “What if I fall? Will a parachute open? Will I feel the impact? Will a new edge appear, one after another until I reach another surface? Why can’t I feel reassurance? Where is His voice?” And then I remember - that’s the thing about Faith and Jesus. Even if you fall, you will always land. There is no infinite unknowing with Jesus. He will always fall with you. Day 22- Desire When I saw this prompt about desire, I thought it seemed pretty easy until I made a quick mental note on them at the blank page of my mind. It was surprising how despite thinking I had so much to write about, it turned out to be nothing way out of the ordinary—except that this could count as something big for me. I found out how frequently these desires of mine change, as fickle as the weather but it remained centralised on one thing and that is to live my life for the Glory of God.
