Have you ever had something that you care about that you wonder if you shouldn’t? I have something like that in Disneyland. It’s a silly thing, really. Something leftover from what used to be, but is no longer. You see, when they built New Fantasyland in 1983 in Disneyland, almost everything about the land changed. Plants were uprooted and relocated, the layout was moved around to help traffic flow, and attractions present since opening day were reduced to pieces of rubble. Even Tony Baxter, leading the project, looked at what was left and thought, “My God, what have we done?” Some things remained, however. The castle (of course). The carousel. And something not really that exciting or even beautiful: A support tower for the skyway. It was something they couldn’t remove because it was structurally still needed, so the imagineers built the queue for Mr. Toad’s wild ride around it. Years later, when the Skyway was retired, the tower left as well. But the spot where it was is still there to this day, an unassuming little planter that makes the queue awkward but once served a purpose. I have an irrational fondness for this spot. It’s like the holes in our hearts where things that once mattered used to live. Relationships that we thought would last forever. Friendships that have come and gone. People and hopes and dreams we had planned on but who disappeared as if they never existed. But they did. What was never really leaves us. We might walk around it on the way to somewhere else, but its memory still remains. Sometimes silently, like the planter. I probably shouldn’t care so much. Eventually it, too, will just be a memory. Country Bear Jamboree’s last day was filled with the laughter & joy that the show brought to us all. The night ended on a more solemn note as we paid our respects to Henry and the gang. Unfortunately the attraction went down around 8:45pm but thankfully we were treated to one final walkthrough of Grizzly Hall and presented with a beautiful poster of the upcoming retheming - the “Country Bear Musical Jamboree” and a lightning lane that could be used the following day on another attraction. It's been a minute since we last posted an update on Disney's newest attraction revamp, so let's talk a little bit about it. Of course, we're talking about the transition from Splash Mountain into Tiana's Bayou Adventure over at Magic Kingdom. Now, we did talk a little bit about this in a previous video on our YouTube channel. [In that video I also go into my thoughts on what I think is going to happen to Magic Kingdom in the future, though it's a pie in the sky theory that is definitely only a theory of mine and has no basis in reality. . . but it's always fun to share those ideas, isn't it?] I haven't given those of you here a look though, so here we go! There's definitely a lot of work taking place on every inch of the attraction. We see lots more greenery and, of course, lots of scaffolding and work crews. While I am excited for the attraction, I still struggle to see how this is going to work in the current configuration of the park, especially with how green it is against the very copper and orange backdrop that is Frontierland. Of course, we'll just have to wait and find out! One way or another, I am very much looking forward to this attraction and will be there with bells on once it finally opens! What about you? Have you ever heard the rumor that the rooms at Disney’s Contemporary Resort are designed to be slid in and out of the building’s structure for updates? 👀 Well, that rumor isn’t totally untrue – the rooms here are unique, and they actually were once slid into the building’s iconic A-frame structure. 🏗️👷 That rumor likely originated from the story behind the Contemporary’s construction. Starting January 2024, Disneyland's Haunted Mansion will be receiving an expanded queue, which will tie into the haunted mansion stories of the sea captian, Master Gracey, Madame Leota, and the one eyed cat! Also, next to the exit of the Haunted Mansion, it looks like Madame Leota will get a gift shop! Last but not least, they will be taking the opportunity to make the haunted mansion ride more accessible to guests with disabilities by adding a new elevator exit!
