😬6 WEEK CHECK UP MAY NOT CLEAR YOU FOR EXERCISE😬 SWIPE and read below for WHY?! 🧐 Your routine six-week post-birth checkups are NOT a guaranteed all-clear to return to exercise. 🧐These checkups are NOT a magical fairy healing your abdominal separation or vaginal tearing. 🧐Very commonly, NO physical assessment is done, and it is more an appointment to obtain an 'all clear' that you, as the mum, are medically well, rather than an individual assessment of birth injuries, abdominal muscle separation. 📣I repeat, your six-week check-up is NOT enough! 📣You may get all clear from GP. However, have they referred you to, or have you seen women's health physio for an internal examination? 🥰 I highly recommend all the wonderful members of Fit For 2 to see a Women's Health Physio for an internal examination to assess: ❣ Pelvic floor stability/weakness ❣ Abdominal separation - how much and what exercises are a no-go ❣ To be given safe exercises to help strengthen their pelvic floor and support healing of any separation. ❣ To allow me as a trainer to best guide you to safe exercises and the right modifications for you. ❗Getting the "all clear" at your checkup is great, but it doesn't mean you are ALL clear. 🙋‍♀️ARE YOU EXPERIENCING NIGHT SWEATS SINCE GIVING BIRTH? 🌞Although it may feel like there’s nothing good about these night sweats - I’m here to tell you, the good news is that it’s normal! - Postpartum night sweats are our body’s natural reaction to changing hormones post birth, often caused by decreased levels of estrogen and progesterone. - Your body needs high levels of these hormones during pregnancy, but after birth, doesn't need such high levels anymore. - Through night sweats and regular trips to the toilet to urinate, this is how the body releases these no longer needed hormones, as well as built up fluid from pregnancy. 🌞How long does this usually last? - On average, after having a baby, it usually takes 2-3 weeks for these levels to reset to their pre-pregnancy levels. - I highly recommend focusing on a wholefood nutrition diet with protein in every meal. - Keep hydrated. My top tips for pregnancy: 👉 Keep lower abdominals switched on 👉 Relax pelvic floor on the inhale whilst standing 👉 Exhale either for the whole lunge or as you push upwards from your lunge 👉 Keep a neutral pelvic alignment at the bottom of the lunge (not tucking your pelvis under or sticking your tail bone out) If you experience pelvis pain ⚡️ (sciatic nerve pain, sacrum pain, pubic bone pain or strain through the hip flexors), a hypertonic pelvic floor or are over 20 weeks in pregnancy, then it’s best to speak to your mumsafe trainer for modifications, in case it's best to avoid single-leg exercises, like lunges. 😬6 MISTAKES NOT TO MAKE IN THE FIRST 6 WEEKS POST BIRTH!😬 🤔These mistakes are: - doing too much - Not prioritising your bowel movements and health - Neglecting your pelvic floor exercises - Not asking for help. - Returning toe exercise too hard and too fast - Missing their 6 week assessment with a GP and Women's Health Physio. 🤔 A 2016 survey of 756 new mums showed 60% of them were given absolutely no return to exercise guidance at all. Things you should know: 🧐 Your routine six-week post-birth checkups are NOT a guaranteed all-clear to return to exercise. 🧐These check ups are NOT a magical fairy healing your abdominal separation or vaginal tearing. 🧐Very commonly, NO physical assessment is done, and it is more an appointment to obtain an 'all clear' that mum is medically well, rather than an assessment of birth injuries, abdominal muscle separation. 📣Live Ultrasounds are important to check your Pelvic Floor and Transabdominal Muscles and whether you can use them correctly post birth. 📣For better results we recommend a women's health physio for an internal examination. 💜ARE YOU A NEW MUM AND WORRIED ABOUT YOUR BUBS UMBILICAL STUMP? 💜 Read below for more info and SAVE and SHARE this post! 💜 After your baby is born, the umbilical cord is clamped and cut. 💜 The part of the umbilical cord that’s still attached to your baby is the umbilical stump. Often the clamp is still attached to the stump. 💜 During the first few days after birth, the stump gets darker, shrivels and eventually falls off to become your baby’s belly button. Sometimes this takes a week or two. 💜 While the stump is drying up and just after it falls off, you might notice some oozing around baby’s belly button. This might be clear, sticky or brownish, and it might leave a mark on your baby’s clothes or nappy. It might also smell a little. This is part of the healing process. If concerned speak with your Midwife. 💜Check with your GP or child and family health nurse if: - the stump hasn’t fallen off after more than two weeks - the area around the cord is red, has a bad smell and/or is warm and tender to touch. 💜Cleaning and caring for your baby’s belly button: - Wash your hands before handling the cord stump. 💜ARE YOU A NEW MUM AND WORRIED ABOUT YOUR BUBS UMBILICAL STUMP? 💜 Read below for more info and SAVE and SHARE this post! 💜 After your baby is born, the umbilical cord is clamped and cut. 💜 The part of the umbilical cord that’s still attached to your baby is the umbilical stump. Often the clamp is still attached to the stump. 💜 During the first few days after birth, the stump gets darker, shrivels and eventually falls off to become your baby’s belly button. Sometimes this takes a week or two. 💜 While the stump is drying up and just after it falls off, you might notice some oozing around baby’s belly button. This might be clear, sticky or brownish, and it might leave a mark on your baby’s clothes or nappy. It might also smell a little. This is part of the healing process. 💜Check with your GP or child and family health nurse if: - the stump hasn’t fallen off after more than two weeks - the area around the cord is red, has a bad smell and/or is warm and tender to touch. 💜Cleaning and caring for your baby’s belly button: - Wash your hands before handling the cord stump.
