When my children came along 18 and 14 years ago my fitness took a back seat. I was constantly tired and whilst I enjoyed being mum I did find it hard. When my youngest turned 3 I decided it was time to make some changes and having NEVER lifted a weight before in my life (I had always been a self confessed cardio queen) I learned to use a kettlebell. I was 43 when I first gave strength training a go! Fast forward 10 years of training and I am stronger, my body shape has changed and am much more confident. I love being strong! 💁‍♀️Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen my fair share of women who have injured their backs doing deadlifts, or kettlebell swings or something similar in a gym. Buuuuutt, it’s often because they haven’t learned how to do one well before adding LOAD or SPEED 🤔 Do you know what I see way more of? 👉🏼Women who have hurt their backs bending over to pick up a toy from the ground 👉🏼Women who are scared to bend forward for fear of injury 👉🏼Women whose backs ache because they spend all day with their pelvis tucked under to help ‘their core work’ When we learn how to move our bodies in ALL the ways and get comfortable moving MORE load than our day to day activities entail, we move better, cope better and feel better 💙 Don’t skip the deadlifts. 41 Solo mum to 2 beauties PT, body positive and wellness advocate 1 year out of an emotionally abusive relationship that had me stuck in fight or flight mode 24/7. Domestic violence eats away at your soul, it diminishes your self respect & self confidence. It pushes you to either break or take the reins and fly and that is what I did. Buggy Parkrun PB!!!! 💃🏼 And we nearly didn’t go! When we woke this morning it was pouring and the thought of dragging everyone out to Parkrun seemed A LOT of effort… but the boys were ready and the rain was easing so we decided to take our chances and headed to Sutcliffe Parkrun. And it was definitely worth it, as both Mum and Dad smashed a buggy PB!!! I usually fall down on the first km, so today I really tried hard to push (quite literally!) right from the start. And I managed to pretty much hold pace for the full 5km finishing in 24:30. Cracker day at @spartanraceau bagging a podium finish in the 5km Sprint 🥈! Another weekend on the south coast. We are here for the Worthing Running Festival tomorrow and of course I managed to get a parkrun in with my co-pilot Ollie. Post-Partum Performance 👶 I never imagined I’d be offering baby feeds as part of my service, but I’m never one to turn down the opportunity to go above and beyond 😂🥛 Me and Katy have been working together for around 6 years in total now and, as you might have guessed, she has been nailing her training post-partum too 🦸‍♀️ One thing that really stood out during Katy’s pregnancy was the fact that as a family they prioritised both parents-to-be health and fitness through the entire process 🏋️‍♂️ It wasn’t about a PB on the barbell, or a certain body composition…it became very much about supporting the health, wellbeing and happiness of the family unit. And that’s REALLY f*cking cool if you ask me. We spoke about how important training was as a cornerstone habit of self care & as Katy went through pregnancy, worked with the fantastic @jesswestall out of @rgphysiotherapy Not only did Jess help Katy prepare and recover from giving birth…but opened a dialogue between coach & physio to work as a unit in delivering what was needed, when it was needed and making adjustments based of feedback from each one of us. I’ll never understate the value of collaborative working with other professionals 🙌 I feel incredibly privileged to have been a part of this team process & even more so to be trusted to wrangle the little man when he’s watching his mum train too. I have no doubt Katy has got plenty of PBs in the tank as we move forward into the next phase of training, but I don’t want to take the light off the fact that she’s just absolutely nailed this life PB & I’m so bloody proud of her 👏 Let’s all show this super-mum some love in the comments 👇

Swipe to the end! My grandfather Dr Antonio started #pintorosariohospital in 1938. My grandmum, Oslinda wasn’t a doctor but she knew each and every patient like her own family. She made sure to visit them every evening, sitting down and having a chat, sometimes a cup of tea. She’d invite them in to the house (which is attached to the hospital and over 200 years old), happy to give them a tour. Back then, we had an in-house cook and meals were spread on a long dining table, with rows of benches on either side and the food served in the middle. Patients and their relatives would sit side by side and break bread thrice a day (keep in mind that this was a time when women would stay in hospital 7-12 days after a delivery just for traditions sake). The head nurse being a staunch catholic would lead (those who wished to participate) in a Konkani rendition of rosary every evening. When we were kids we’d spend much of our time following dad on his rounds, sometimes cradling babies on our laps. I still have patient’s mums (who had their babies with dad years ago) tell me they remember me as a raggedy kid following dad about (oh how you’ve grown!) When we renovated we tried to keep that feeling alive - the feeling of coming home to have a baby - the knowledge that pregnancy is not an illness, that undercurrent of faith and trust. I don’t know if you guys remember #zevtheartist with his beautiful portrayal of his mums birth. One thing we hear often from mamas contemplating joining a class, is that it's hard to commit to because baby nap times clash with our timetable... But one of the things we love about Kangatraining, is that our Kangabuddies get to start the class with a little bit of social time with other babies, then plenty of bonding cuddles with mum in their carrier, almost always followed by a hefty sprinkling of sleepydust. Hi, I’m Vicki, I’m a mum and a fitness trainer and I’ve not set foot in a commercial gym for a workout in almost 5 years! So, if I haven’t even been to gym in such a long time, why should you try my classes….. Because, I get it, I get how hard it is to find time for yourself once you become a mum, how tough it is to re-fill your own cup when you are needed so much at home, or how the last thing you want to do (or have the time to do) when your kids are in bed is go to the gym. I understand that it might not be possible to find childcare to allow yourself the time to exercise, or the feelings of guilt that you might feel when you take time for yourself, I get it, because I’ve experienced all of those things too. Which is why I decided to qualify as an instructor and run shorter child friendly classes, so that I could help other mums that might be in the same boat as me. Since becoming a mum I’ve learnt that good results can be achieved from short workouts, featuring a mixture of strength-based exercises and body weight exercises, that I don’t need to dedicate hours each week to exercise or use fancy gym equipment, that it is possible to squeeze in exercise around the demands of a family, and that getting the foundations right is key to making sure your body stays strong and healthy. That’s why my classes are only 45 minutes long – to fit in with your busy lives and why your little ones are welcome. My classes are suitable for beginners, those who are pregnant or recovering from birth, or any mum who is wanting to get fitter, regardless of what stage of motherhood they are in. 3 WEEKS CHECK IN - into my cut *project fit at 40* From 62.8kg to ➡️ 61.3kg From 18.4% bodyfat to ➡️ 17.9% HERE IS WHAT I'VE DONE IN THESE LAST 3 WEEKS: * Dropped my carbs intake by quite a lot, but still consuming around 160-180g on TD - still eat bread, pasta and potatoes * Drop my fat intake to 50g a day * Increased my protein intake - to keep me full so I am not hungry (yet) * Increased daily expenditure with 2K more steps and added 15-20min cardio post training. That's all. It's not rocket science and it's not impossible if you have the mindset you can drop few kilos too easily and feel your best you ever felt for the summer. Still not a cyclist but I am making progress on my road bike after a bike fit and a skills training day. British Cycling and Portsmouth North end cycling club held a great event for women in cycling. It was a 2 hour training day to build skills for group rides and racing and then we had a 1mile race at the end. Thanks for the awesome pictures @tomaustincycling @britishcycling @pnecc My coach Gemma @bloc_race_team encouraged me to sign up to build my confidence on my road bike. Almost ready for my holiday I cannot wait to have a break it’s been over 10 years since I’ve been on a plane and left the UK.. 🇿🇦 here I come 😝😝😝 Now I have been thinking this would also be a great opportunity to show you all how you can still have the cake and literally eat it, still enjoy the break and keep active. Well I shall do my best as I’ve said it’s my first time away with my family in years so I’m gonna be overwhelmed myself. I’ll share as much as I can.
