Packaged in recyclable or biodegradable material, there’s no waste, no plastic pollution, no damaging effect on the environment 🫧 🌻: Don’t mow the lawn! Next month is the movement #NoMowMay, created by @plantlife.loveplants, and it might be our easiest Green Swap yet. All you have to do is; nothing. Just don’t mow the lawn this month and, as a result, watch as wildflowers grow🌼encouraging pollinators to buzz by 🐝 and create a thriving ecosystem right there in your garden. 🫧: Swap out for environmentally-friendly cleaning products. Replace the harmful, wasteful products we currently stock beneath the sink with eco-friendly choices like @Smol and @Ecover – which are refillable, recyclable, containing natural ingredients that are cruelty-free. 🖥️: Go paperless. Our Village Green has been chosen as the monthly eco refill partner for @higgsllp as part of their Green Committee's initiative to reduce their plastic consumption, rather than just recycling - as we know, plastic is not infinitely recyclable. Today I refilled 16 household containers, brought in by staff from their homes, with everything from Bodywash to Laundry Liquid. Higgs LLP are an extremely progressive organisation, and since I gave an inspiring talk and product demonstration to them last June, they have been encouraging their staff to make green swaps of their every day items. Indeed @Nyree Applegarth now leads the purchasing of local, plastic free milk and fruit for the staff kitchens. Incredible! I am thrilled to be working so closely with an organisation who puts sustainability at the heart of what they do. They really do make a difference and I'm learning a lot from them. I’ve used the brown paper tape lots but there are times you need some clear stuff to fix the broken pages in a book or similar. Even with all this rain, Monday mean laundry day! For the last 6 months, I've weened us off using fabric softener! We really don't need to use it, and by making my own, I've saved lots of money and reduced our plastic footprint. I re-used a plastic juice bottle and using a funnel poured in a cup of bicarb, half cup white vinegar, a splash of witch hazel, then topped with water. I added 40/50 drops of essential oil-- loving a rose, lavender and vanilla combo. I've posted about @upcirclebeauty before, but they really are worth multiple posts! Not only are they ethical, sustainable and vegan but many of the products are also refillable. Most importantly the products themselves are amazing. I've definitely noticed a difference in my skin since using them 💚 Pic one shows my favourites from their Christmas advent calendar; their shampoo, facial toner and gua sha facial massager. I had never used a gua sha before and love that this one is stainless steel as it stays nice and cool. It makes a great addition to my routine alongside my jade roller. The second photo is my all time favourite Upcircle products; their caffeine facial serum and eye cream as well as their cleansing face balm. I don't think I could live without them now 😂 The last photo is my new travel tin. It's a great size and has a double layer at the bottom to help keep bars dry. For anyone still using Smol products here is a great alternative @get_homethings. They also offer a subscription service and offer lots of different products including various cleaning sprays. We have been sing them for a while and they work really well! We stopped using Smol as they use many of the same chemicals as 'normal' brands but in a lower quantity. For me eco as not just about cardboard packaging and refill options it's about using safe ingredients for the environment. (This is not a criticism of anyone using Smol. So hands up who didn't know these are actually reusable!! I only recently found out you can wash disposable swim nappies if they haven't been pooed in. What a game changer!
