Côtés déceptions, on regrettera pour le coup un peu trop de lenteur au risque de parfois décrocher du film. My Review of Netflix’s The Killer, the latest entry from filmmaker David Fincher: -This thriller action film based on the graphic novel of the same name, follows an unnamed professional assassin who gets embroiled in an international manhunt after a hit goes wrong. Executed with a strong technical flair and a straightforward story, the film features familiar material Fincher has already tackled, though is nonetheless an engaging/slick experience. -The narrative rests with the lead performance of Michael Fassbender who delivers a methodical approach to his character and can verbalize a lot without speaking. Amidst his physical prowess, his cold and precise nature standout during his narration/musings which informs the audience. At the same time, the narration reveals some small cracks of vulnerability for his character but he’s largely still a force to be reckoned with. The supporting cast includes the likes of Tilda Swinton, Charles Parnell, Arliss Howard, Kerry O’Malley, Sophie Charlotte, Emiliano Pernia, Gabriel Polanco, Sala Baker and more who are all utilized to help progress the journey of the protagonist and his mission; where each key player effectively enhances the scenes they are in and establishes the film’s structure. Hey, fellas. Well, it's been a while since I've done a movie review here, but I recently watched David Fincher's newest film "The Killer" twice, and I want to talk about it. The plot follows a skilled assassin who goes on an international manhunt after a hit goes sideways. "The Killer" is a film that might turn off some viewers as it is a slow burn character study with very little action, but for someone like me, I was entirely invested and mesmerized with everything for almost 2 hours. The way how the film explores the titular character is brilliant. He is a grounded, relatable, three dimensional character, from his strengths and weaknesses, his deadpan sense of humor, stopping to eat and do some yoga exercises while waiting for the right time to kill his target, and always planning ahead during his missions. Michael Fassbender completely chews the scenery with his performance as the character, delivering intriguingly long monologues through narration and displaying an emotionless demeanor. I even give him props for barely blinking. That is true dedication. Everything from the cinematography, sound design and soundtrack perfectly captures the tense atmospheric vibe of the film, making the viewers feel just as uneasy and melancholic as the killer. There's also a great amount of build up for some scenes before things get intense as well as a fight scene that is well choreographed. And the dialogue is just immersive, especially that monologue about the hunter and the grizzly bear.
