I went into #TheVisit fully blind and I’m glad I did. This is by no means a good movie but I let it surprise me. It had some really unsettling moments that is a fun ride. I know #mnightshymalan gets a lot of hate recently but I don’t think this deserves outright bashing. It is just as good as any other mid level horror flick. Let’s face it, old people are weird. So the material is there for the taking. I absolutely hate how they filmed it even though it was done with intent, I just hate that “first person footage” kinda style. Night Shyamalan Interp: Olivia DeJonge, Ed Oxenbould, Peter McRobbie, Deanna Dunagan, Kathryn Hahn, Patch Darragh, Celia Keenan-Bolger Escrita y dirigida por Shyamalan nos llega esta película de terror que aunque no asombra en su giro final como nos tiene acostumbrados el cineasta de origen indio, y tarda mucho en entrar en materia, lo cierto es que cuando explota lo hace por todo lo grande, con escenas de auténtico terror psicológico, en una especie de retrato de la demencia en la tercera edad. El grabarlo a modo de found footage nos ayuda a explorar las inquietudes de los personajes. La atmósfera se va enrareciendo a media que avancemos en la trama. La peculiar selección de canciones antiguas para la película está muy bien traida, pues ayuda a remarcar el estado de enajenación de los dos más veteranos actores. El film está protagonizado por Olivia DeJonge y Ed Oxenbould, que volverían a coincidir en Mejor ten cuidado. Junto a ellos, Deanna Dunagan (Un río muy frío) y Peter McRobbie (Noche de lobos), Kathryn Hahn (Puñales por la espalda), Patch Darragh (La primera purga) y Celia Keenan-Bolger (Diane). Valoración 5,5/10. No es de las mejores del director pero tampoco estaría entre las peores que tiene. Directed and written by Peruvian filmmaker Claudia Llosa, 𝘈𝘭𝘰𝘧𝘵 (2014) introduces us to Nana (played by Jen), a single mother caring for her two boys; one of her sons is suffering from an unexplained terminal illness & the other is free-spirited with an interest in falconry. Nana seeks out a traveling faith healer in hopes of a miraculous cure because her little town has no medical facilities. A miracle emerges when Nana discovers she has a healing touch. Fast-forward to twenty years later: Ivan (Nana’s one surviving son), now played by Cillian Murphy, receives an unexpected visit from a French documentarian (Mélanie Laurent) who wants to create a movie about him. Ivan is now a professional falconer with a wife and a very dismal home of his own. The story switches back and forth between the past and the present as we uncover more about Ivan's early years, Nana's path to becoming a healer, and the circumstances that led to their estrangement. Jennifer said she immediately knew she wanted to work with Llosa after they met to discuss the project. I think it’s admirable that Jen appreciates & partakes in passion projects, films that likely won’t be popular or resonate with everyone. Jen’s acting is superb and poignant. She radiates with frightening conviction. It was emotionally hard to watch her character languish in her tragedy. Nana had to age considerably, and it was interesting for both Jen and the viewers to see herself/her appear with wrinkles & gray hair. I’m intrigued to see Jennifer as she ages in real-life; I find wrinkles & other physical signs of aging quite beautiful. I don’t necessarily have any critiques for Jennifer, but I felt her character’s arc was hard to buy (mainly because we hardly see her in her full-on faith-healer mode after she’s aged). The landscape cinematography is stunning. The frozen terrain amplified the character’s burdens & despair. While filming in Manitoba, Canada, Jen said it was challenging to act in such a frigid environment. According to IMDb, temperatures dropped as low as -30F/-34C. I’m also from New York and know what being freezing feels like, but I couldn’t imagine myself making a day on that set 🥶

DANIEL ISN’T REAL (2019) ~7.2/10 • This is a film I truly looked forward to watching and I will say that it is the work of an original filmmaker. Who definitely has talent, unfortunately, the film never seems to rise to how strong it seems to lead. The film offers a tale of a schizophrenic That can be compared to or seen as a dual personality. Here that other personality corns across as a long-lost imaginary friend. Who comes back during a mental break though the film presents as more supernatural. Though a film that is more willing to examine mental illness and the effects it can have not only on you but those around you and how it can be hereditary. Which leads the film to be a strong and tight thriller. As the other personality is more of a bad boy, yet comes across as a hipster jerk or A frat brother type you would think most would want to avoid. who comes across as charming to most of the female characters. Which makes him more believable as a sociopath. Eventually, the Film reveals why the other personality is so murderous. That might be one of the few parts of the movie that feels like it needed to be stronger or at least have a stronger explanation. The film attempts to make the supernatural elements help to build a world. Though even once it is explained it feels a bit vague. As you want more information. Though it does leave you guessing as to whether it is truly him or a split personality or something else altogether One of the perks of the film is seeing Mary Stuart Masterson in a film again. Here she as usual is strong in her scenes.
