During the course, we earned credit points for embarking on sea excursions and went out on the Yacht practically every other week. Initially, we started with small boats, gradually delving into the nuances of navigation, winds, and directions. To accrue sea hours, we embarked on 24-hour crossings over from Israel to Cyprus and back again. 🌐GENDER EQUITY PROJECT UPDATE🌐 Women in our area historically harvest shellfish as their primary ocean activity. Mussels and oysters are abundant along our coastline, providing sustainable protein sources. Through workshops, women will cultivate these shellfish, improving food security and fostering economic independence. This initiative marks the first women-owned business in Jangamo, Mozambique, creating new opportunities. Empowering women in fisheries meetings ensures diverse conservation perspectives, led by locals. The project equips women with essential skills like swimming and literacy, promoting inclusivity. We had a stakeholder meeting to discuss the gender equity project: In the second phase, women show progress in swimming proficiency, with plans to transition to open water activities. Trials on mussel growth are advancing, preparing for an ex-situ experiment. 💙 I wish I could live closer to the ocean or sea, preferably a warm one 🙂. I grew up in a port city of Odesa, Ukraine. Right now I am only a few hours away from the Pacific Coast, which is very different from the Black Sea, but gives me the same peaceful and refreshing vibes. Nature was created for us to enjoy, and we should do more to protect it. I am so proud of our anthology Enchanted Waters for raising over 1,200 to donate to Oceana. They skillfully filter their food from the water by opening and closing these fans. - Preferred Dwellings: Porcelain crabs are partial to Adhesive and various species of carpet anemones. This photo almost looks like it could have been taken on land... almost. This is a beautiful example of a tube anemone on Dahab's seagrass bed in Mashrahbah. If you're lucky, these creatures sometimes have tiny shrimp living in and around them. Although its body looks solid, it will actually withdraw its tentacles and almost fold itself up if it feels it's under threat - pretty cool. You've got the sandy slope with its garden eel inhabitants on one side and a glorious coral reef populated by all manner of fish and critters on the other. I am pleased to share that my abstract seascape, Shimmering Sea No. 6, has been juried into The heART of Orange County All Media Juried Exhibition 2024, opening April 27th at Chemers Gallery. Since 1978, Chemers Gallery (@chemersgallery) has been an innovator in the Orange County arts scene, and owned and operated by women. The gallery is located in the beautiful Enderle Center in Tustin, California. The show opens Saturday, April 27, with the Artist Reception & Awards Ceremony from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. The exhibition continues through May 11. This painting is part of my Shimmering Sea series in which you’ll see a colorful and warm impression of sunny days by the California coast. The white surfline in the painting contains iridescent layers, which create luminosity and interest in a room as they reflect light differently at different times of the day and from different vantage points.
