His sonal sculptures are exhibited in some of the most prestigious art centres. Since the inauguration of the first tram, la Ville de Nice is working with him to create the sounds that lead you through the journey: 🚊DID YOU KNOW, THAT THE SOUNDS CHANGE THREE TIMES A DAY? Each train is equipped with 14 invisibly integrated speakers that provide very high-quality sound. 600 different sounds will accompany travellers. Three time slots for three sonal families: 🕒"Morning" from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Clean, melodic sonal (with 3 random variations) 🕒"Day" from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.: Varied and dynamic sonal (3 random variations) And there is the 🕒"Evening" slot from 7 p.m. to 7 am At this time the sounds develop a soothing atmosphere that contrasts with the dynamic chime of the day. 🎹In the underground stations, the sounds evoke the fantastic nightlife of the districts above. You'll hear the "melodies in the basement" from the bars of Place Garibaldi - Jazz and tango. And when you enter the musicians' quarter (Alsace Lorraine station) you'll be surrounded by little reveries on the piano. 🚊DO YOU RECOGNIZE THE FAMOUS VOICES? The main voice is the actor Jean-Marc Barr, the star actor of the Big Blue. But you can also hear Michael Londsdale et Gabrielle Galliano (in the evening), the soprano Nelly Lacoste, and Yves Rousguisto, for the announcements in Nissart. Also, the footballers Dante, Malang Saar et Walter Benitez contributed in the past. 🚊UNDERGROUNDS STATIONS NEED A DIFFERENT TONE These sounds must give a reassuring warm tone. The closer you get to the airport, the more the notes are airy. Michel Redolfi “Sonic Waters, Underwater Music 1979-1987” 1984 hat Art / 2021 Sub Rosa [Experimental / Electroacoustic] One of the more populist personalities to come out of 1980s electroacoustic scene. Michel Redolfi’s entire career as well as his coveted INA-GRM records are a proof that academic-adjacent electronic music doesn’t always have to be this gravely serious ritual of caressing the knobs of unwieldy audio equipment and terrifying old computers. Despite high levels of sonic abstraction and synthesized textures Redolfi’s music always ends up sounding organic and highly evocative of the spaces that facilitate and enhance it. His most famous works are informed by the ecology of natural habitats such as the desert, jungle and the ocean. The latter inspired composer’s so-called ‘Underwater Music’ which mixes the recordings of underwater phenomena captured through the hydrophones, the sounds of Synclavier synthesiser and a large amount of studio processing. Instead of boring everyone with the high concepts relegated to academic articles and concert hall performances Redolfi took his music back to its sources so to say. His immersive Underwater Music presentations are held in the natural sites and historic swimming pools around the world. The audience is actually encouraged to be in the water during the performances. This recording documents a few of these concerts. Side A is the music of “fresh water” recorded at the Olympic pool in La Rochelle. Side B is dedicated to the “salt water” experience captured in the Pacific waters of La Jolla. Even if it sounds a bit kooky I strongly encourage you to give it a go. Released in our Early Electronic series Sonic Waters With the Sonic Waters project initiated in 1978, my aim was to situate field of electronic music within a liberating and futuristic experience, outside the concert halls and in sync with the development of new instruments - in particular the Synclavier digital synthesizer, the first model of which I acquired in 1977. As concert space, the Pacific Ocean seemed to me to be the ideal experimental medium for both acoustic and cultural reasons. I then developed the aesthetic and technical elements that would contribute to the conception of Underwater Music. Numerous performances would follow spanning four decades, in natural sites or in large public pools such as those of Sydney, Paris or Venice during the 2006 Biennale. I've divided this album into 2 fields: Sonic Waters: Music for Fresh Water (1981) Sonic Waters: Music for Salt Water (1979-1987)

« TRAM TRACKS » LES SONALS DU TRAMWAY par Michel Redolfi, compositeur et designer son, Jean-Marc BARR, comédien et voix des nouvelles lignes Avec Tram Tracks, sonals d’annonce à l’intérieur des rames du tramway, Michel Redolfi prolonge sur les lignes 2 et 3 le travail réalisé dès 2007 sur la ligne 1. Sa volonté est d’accompagner harmoniquement les usagers au cours de leurs déplacements, avec de multiples annonces musicales et vocales variant au fil de la journée et tout au long du parcours. Le ton est le plus souvent ludique, notamment en ce printemps où le compositeur dévoilera ses tous nouveaux sonals composés avec des voix étonnantes issues de la scène artistique niçoise. L’acteur Jean-Marc Barr qui accompagne au quotidien les voyageurs sur la ligne 2 sera au côté du compositeur.
