I had the honour of creating the farewell flowers for my father in laws funeral yesterday. He loved his bluebell walks with us as a family so I was so pleased I could add some from the garden that have just started flowering. It's a fascinating story, and our cultural celebrations today don't exactly do it justice. Patrick was a young boy from Britain who was captured by Irish raiders as a teenager and taken to Ireland as a slave in the 5th century. During his captivity, Patrick became a Christian. After six years, Patrick managed to escape and return to Britain. However, as a young adult, he felt called by God to go back to Ireland to spread Christianity to the Irish people. So he willingly went back the country of his captives & spent many years traveling across the country, teaching about Jesus and establishing churches and schools. One of the stories about Saint Patrick involves him using a shamrock, a small green plant with three leaves, to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity – the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit – to the Irish people. ☘️ Today, St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17th, the day Saint Patrick is believed to have died. People around the world celebrate this day with parades, wearing green, and enjoying Irish food and music.
