Hope y'all are ready for Community Lab because it's about to be BUMPIN'! 🪘💃 This year's Co-Lab will be West African drumming and dance led by instructor Nani Agbeli and assistant Monique Thompson. Nani Agbeli is a highly acknowledged, accomplished traditional Ghanaian West African artist who excels in drumming, dancing, history, and culture. He has led the award-winning cultural troupe Sankofa Roots II, served as the principal instructor of Ghanaian tradition at Dagbe Cultural Center, and taught at prestigious universities, including Tufts University, CalArts, Harvard University, and Berklee College of Music. Besides his traditional expertise, Agbeli is a multi-talented artist, excelling in textiles, painting, web design, and computer graphics. His mastery in these areas showcases his talent and demonstrates his passion for creativity and commitment to unifying traditional Ghanaian music, history, diversity, and arts. Monique Thompson began her dance journey learning Nigerian style dancing around the age of six, under her first instructor Baba Onochie Chukwurah. Wanting to explore more in the African culture, she started participating in community classes all over the Los Angeles area, learning Mali, Senegalese, and Guinea style West African dancing, drumming, and singing. She has an upbringing in hip hop and recently expanded her repertoire in Latin style dances. In the last four years, she has been training and studying underneath Nani Agbeli learning Ghanaian drumming, dancing, and singing. Thompson is now a member of Agbeli’s group, Volta, and has been performing with his group around the Los Angeles county. Personally, I need serious reasons for the characters to be enemies (wár, dèadly family feud, centuries long dispute) before I’d really call them enemies. I’ve seen Quartz Mountain called enemies to lovers, but I never classify it as that, since Avery had no idea fae even existed. I’d call them dislike to lovers! We can find everything in this story, Fated mates, Fae, Witches, romance, and a real Slow-Burn that you are consumed in it. I liked the Multi-POV in the book is very few that usually incorporate it, I loved Kyla’s touch. The only thing I can say that I struggled a little is that the book progresses slowly, although, on the other hand, it makes you connect and know even more about the characters. Avery was without a doubt my favorite character, I loved her determination, despite her sister’s pain and being in a strange world she doesn’t lose the will to keep trying. With all the plot twists in this book and the cliffhanger at the end, I can’t wait for the next book, this world of Fantasy had me hooked, a good world-building, excellent characters in different ways, each one with their traumas, the way they are advancing and growing in the story I loved it. This was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me and I am thankful she gave me the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this book. ************************************************************** My review: Quartz Mountain was so much fun. This book follows a mortal FMC, Avery, who falls into Fae lands and is goddess blessed. She is found my MMC, Sevine, who is the leader of a rebellion against their Land's King. While navigating a new world and trying to figure out her role in not only these lands but as part of the rebellion, Avery has to learn to trust not only Fae but herself. In typical style of book 1 in a series, there is a lot of world building and story development that can slow some of the plot along. I did however enjoy the parallels that Lynn used in creating a realm that mimics the nature of Montana. She was able to build the wonderous illusion of how much brighter the world sits in a land imbued with magic. Especially when that magic comes from nature and the lands themselves. Avery was an easy FMC to root for. While a traumatic experience brought her to a new realm, it's her humanistic traits that continue to personify her character and differentiate her from the fae in a good way. Sevine, her opposite holds so many things close to the vest, though unable to lie, is not openly willing to share his past, even with those close to him. While this may have some people seeing similarities to Feyre/Riasand ACOTAR dynamic, I can tell you there is more to the complexities that is these two. Also there are plenty of other characters in this book to enjoy and resonate with. I waited with baited breath for aspects of this story to unfold and Lynn brought these into play but in ways I could not have expected. Morgan gets attacked by a bear and is severely injured. Avery is saved by a a fae man, Savine (MMC), and transported to another world through a portal. And then a bunch of stuff happens lol. Swipe for full synopsis! WHAT A STUNNING DEBUT! Audrey absolutely slayed the world-building. There’s a lot of it, but it’s easy to follow and her writing is SO GOOD. I was easily transported into Aeritis. And I DID NOT want this book to be over. It’s heavier on the romantasy aspect than the spice. However, the few spicy scenes are *chefs kiss* Now let’s talk about some of my favorite characters that I’ve ever read—Savine and Avery. Avery is unapologetically herself and adventurous. I really need to be more like her. And Savine…excuse me Daddy Savine🥵 He has such a rough exterior and my poor little baby has been through a lot. But, he ends up alright. I just love him so much. Audrey has a way of making you fall in love with her characters from the beginning. The banter between these two is fan-freaking-tastic. I laughed out loud SO many times.
