I had a great time running the Race Harborough Run Rabbit Thump Trail Half Marathon yesterday. It's the first time I've ran a trail race. The course was a big challenge with steep inclines, uneven ground and plenty of long grass to tackle but I got round the 2 lap route in 1hr49. Wooo #medalmonday π Yesterday I did the Battle of Brampton Valley Way, running from Northampton to Market Harborough and back again, another group did it the other way starting at Market Harborough....disappointingly we didn't do battle when we met in the middle βοΈ π Weather was perfect, but to break up the gorgeous country scenery we had to go through two pitch black long tunnels full of sticky mud and puddles which were super creepy. Headtorch was mandatory kit. Lovely event, volunteers at all the aid stations were really supportive and helpful. I am super pleased I finished the 28 miles. My running anxiety has kicked in a lot recently in long runs and I had a very long meltdown in the first half...followed by a second half full of stomach cramps. I am now wondering if the cramps were caused by me getting myself so worked up? Anyway.....I got it done, hoping next time the anxiety kicks in I can remind myself about this and get past it fasterπͺ #battleofbramptonvalleyway #raceharborough #supermarathon #miniultramarathon
Yesterday I took on the Battle of the Brampton Valley Way organised by @raceharborough At 28 miles its just over a Marathon distance and is a great route through the countryside along an old railway track. Running from Market Harborough to Northampton you have teams start from either end and its basically a race to see who gets the most runners back first on the out and back route. Really enjoyed it and it was a great test to see where my fitness currently is. I went out quicker than I should have and combined with the heat this caught up with me on the return leg when I started to suffer with cramp so had to slow my pace down. Well, that was quite the Sunday morning. I left home at 7:15am after laying awake listening to the monsoon outside for about 2 hours. Roads out of the village were flooded, to the point where I considered just going home. 45 minutes and peak stress levels later, I arrived and had an hour to calm myself down. Starting with Dick's Hill was interesting, but not as bad as I had anticipated. 6 miles of rolling mountains through Northamptonshire countryside in the rain, sploshing through various road rivers and the course levelled off a bit. I was feeling good, so I just went with it, trying not to get ahead of myself, and burning out. Got to 13 miles pretty comfortably, and then my legs started to shout. Pep talk at 14 miles (out loud, taking a leaf out of @pwrup_fitness book) of "come on Leanne, 30 minutes left, easy" and I pushed on. Lovely flat miles to finish with so sped up and managed to pull in a very unexpected finish time of 2:43:40. Sub 10 minute mile average was not on my radar today, especially not on that course so I've given myself a confidence boost! Thanks to @raceharborough for putting on another great local event! Let's go Brighton, we've got this! βοΈNaseby 1645βοΈ The one where I wonβt be sharing the @mickhallphotos which he very kindly took as each one confirms that I am one miserable individual π 3rd crack at @raceharborough and their Naseby 1645 race. 16.45 miles around the rolling lanes of Naseby and its surrounding villages and had turned to streams in some places. What I learnt todayππ»ππ»ππ»ππ» ππ»Dicks Hill is still a dick even when moved to the very start of the route ππ»Trainers dry so running through puddles is no big deal ππ»Starting on a hill and ending on an incline is not big or clever ππ»Maybe my marathon target isnβt a fantasy after all ππ»That a 5 minute PB on that course is pretty good going The last point still scares me as weβve been here before and itβs gone very wrong. So weβll see. 4 years ago today, I ran my longest run at the time with 16.45 miles. I was completely on my own from mile 10 onwards, and think I came 16th before last. 11 months ago I could barely run a mile let alone 5. But since then, thanks to the encouragement of @duddlepuck, all our new friends in the #finedongladstones running community, and the runners & volunteers at #irchestercountryparkrun, I've found my stride with this running lark. So last night and this morning I took part in the #raceharborough 2023 night and dawn #tunnelvision runs - 5 miles along the Brampton Valley Way, an old railway line, including the 480m Oxendon tunnel and a very flooded ford across the path. It was wet, it was muddy, it was a real struggle to get out of bed this morning for the second run - but I made it! I'm not out here breaking any records except my own, but I'm enjoying the ride.

Took on the @runrabbittrails / @raceharborough half marathon this morning. Not sure what made me sign up if I'm honest...I'm not a trail runner, and I'm not a fan of hills (they're not shy about hills being part of the course - I can't say I wasn't warned π€£). First 4 miles I was having all the regrets, but once I hit the gravelly bit in the woods I settled myself and actually really enjoyed the second lap. Just took in the views and took it for what it was - a really beautiful course with all the views! Time is of no consequence today, was never going to be, but pulled in under my 2:30 A goal, so that's a win. I headed out for some more recce adventures along the Foxton Hound Ultra route again this weekend. These pictures were all taken between Checkpoint 2 - Checkpoint 5 of the 100k course. π· Although runners who choose the 50k option will run the same first 41k as those entering the longer distance, before turning off through Clipston towards the finish. Hi! π Some of you may remember that at the end of 2022 Brian and Kenny announced their plans to sell Race Harborough. I thought that this was too good an opportunity to miss and so, a few weeks ago, I completed the purchase of the company! βοΈ I've known Brian and Kenny for many years, since helping to establish Irchester Country parkrun, and I'm delighted they have entrusted Race Harborough to me. I'm a regular parkrunner, having run more than 200 parkruns and volunteered at over 100, and have had a real passion for running for many years - specifically on the trails and over long distances - having completed two 100 milers, the first when my son was just a year old! π€± As Co-Event Director at Irchester Country parkrun, and having taken on plenty of leadership opportunities when volunteering for my running club and other local race companies over the last 12 years, I am excited to be able to take on Race Harborough and to see some of my own ideas come to life! π‘ My priorities are to deliver quality, friendly, inclusive, and enjoyable events in beautiful surroundings, at fair prices, with a minimal impact to the environment. π In terms of the events that I am looking to host this year, the following have been added to the 2023 race calendar: π€οΈ Battle of Brampton Valley Way (June) π Run Rabbit Trail Festival (July) πΆ Foxton Hound Ultra (Aug) π³ Clipston Trail Half (Sept) π΄π»ββοΈ Festival of Cycling (Oct) π Tunnel Vision (Nov) π and the ever-popular Santa Run (Dec). My very first cycling event, on the coldest day of the year! I very nearly didn't go but somehow I found theΒ will to make it to the start line (apparently more than half the riders didn't show up!) and it was the most brilliant event. 40 miles of frozen single tracks, bridleways, and towpaths, with the best curry at the end! It was one of those days when the air is frozen and sharp. The sun came out to thaw hands and toes and lift the spirits, but it wasn't strong enough to turn the ice into mud, just perfect! I was wearing 3 pairs of socks (cycling, waterproof, wollen), I had taped the air vents in my cycling shoes, and was wearing neoprene overshoes, and my toes were just OK. Love canicross season πΎπ . Have to say I am sooo happy with my @enertor insoles since putting them in my trail shoes. Generally trail shoes don't offer much cushioning and I used to really suffer with painful shins after trail runs with Ellie, but since using the insoles I haven't had any issues at all - magic!! So proud of my little ginger pocket rocket @elliethewocker - first female canicrosser at the @raceharborough dawn tunnel run this morning π₯° . She wasn't bothered at all being woken up at 5am, ready to start the race in the dark at 6:30am. (It's such a cool race that runs out and back through a disused railway tunnel as the sun is rising) . As soon as Ellie could hear the starter countdown, her inner crazy was out and she was off like the clappers! Apologies for those stood near me at the start who may have been deafened by her dinasaur like excited screeching π . Shout out to @izzydavis who took the overall win and stole my QOM in the process ππ₯and to @cezcj and @kiliandkylo for smashing their first canicross race too! Ellie has some competition! . Now we have one day to recover before our first @canicrossmidlands race on Sunday! π . Completed my first ever official ultra marathon today in the sunny Leicestershire/Northamptonshire countryside. Disclaimer: I don't always look this happy when I run but then I was having a lovely canter with one of my oldest friends βΊ @lady__schofield . And in what is probably a post run endorphin bath I've signed up to a nice 28 mile race in April, as my original 60 mile race in Scotland is postponed. Probably a good thing as I'm not sure I'm ready for 60 miles up a mountain yet π . Setting goals helps me to stay on track and gives me the motivation to see if I can do it. I was thinking how not so long ago 4 miles felt like a long way, and now I'm choosing to do a 15.7 mile run on a Sunday π€·πΌββοΈ It's always exciting to see what you're amazing body and mind is capable of.
