Oh hey there 👋. I've been taking some time out from the gram whilst my head is constantly looping through the mental checklists. There have been lots of goodbyes and 'lasts' lately, the boys are having a big leaving party this weekend, and this time next week they will have finished at their school! Lots of people have been asking if we're moving to Malaysia 'for good'. Nothing is ever permanent with us and we never plan more than a couple of years in advance. But we are constrained by the De Rantau visa. Initially it's only for one year and then we can extend another year if we still meet the criteria. And then... well we really don't know! But the Peak District will always feel like home 💚. This time two years ago, we were just getting ready to leave for four months in Morocco. Malaysia was never on the cards then. 💚🥾 ROBIN HOOD'S CAVE WALK 🥾💚 (linear, 6.9km) We usually shy away from sharing linear walks on the Peak District Kids website - circular ones just tend to work better with kids. But this walk, well yes it's a linear walk, but WOW WOW WOW!!! It is SUPERB and it certainly deserves to be included. There's a secret cave to discover (it's said that Robin Hood hid out here), a trig point to bag, a huge pole to reach, boulders to climb, a footpath seemingly designed especially for 'Floor Is Lava', plus epic (and we really do mean EPIC) views! Veryyyy excited to swap -5°C wake ups for the sun again 🔜 😎 2 weeks and 1 day until race day! 🌎 Making the most of extra time in my happy places with friends and fam before then🥰 Even if the reality is getting veryyy chilly, wet feet, banged heads, hiding out of the wind to eat our picnic and spending hours afterwards trying to warm up😂 Grateful beyond words every bloomin' day for these second chances at health and happiness and swimming. It's a really hard balance sometimes between swimming and work and socialising and rest, but I feel sooo lucky to get to juggle them 🥹🍀

📍 Robin Hoods cave, Stanage Edge First proper walk in the peaks of 2024. I’m not one for creating sentimental reels recapping the year just gone. Although it was a tough one, without the support from loved ones, the @thehikewithmikefoundation and the forever friends made though them (@minds.first ) and many others, it could’ve been worse and for these people I’m so grateful 🙏🏻 However, last year made me more determined then every to not let my mindset slip into chaos. Going into 2024 I feel proud of how kind I’ve learnt to be to myself, to accepted situations (and myself) for what they are, no matter how much I’ve tried to resist and to be more resilient. How we spent Nye! 🎉 We hiked up to Robin hoods cave, the tale says that Robin hood used this cave as a hideout when he wasn't robbing from the rich to give to the poor. The hike was a fairly easy climb, although we had our hiking sticks to hand as we climbed up via the rock face, rather than the path thay everyone took. When we got to the top, the sense of pure freedom we felt was indescribable! The views were breathtaking, and it took us over 2 hours to hike there and back because we stopped to take it all in so many times! After the hike, we went to find ourselves a spot overlooking Sheffield to bring in the new year. We saw so many beautiful fireworks, we celebrated nye along with people we had never met. There is something so beautiful in spending time with people you don't know. I obsess a bit over human behaviour, and this is one of things that I love the most, being able to come together, no matter who you are or where your from, to celebrate the new year! "The cave." Following my previous recent post about this spot, and after finally feeling less ropey than of late, I was inspired to go back to Stanage & see if I could actually reach the hidden / secret cave a few metres further along from the more famous & very well known cave (Robin Hoods Turret). The grippy, lightweight Inov-8 Roclite boots were exactly the right tool for the job there, particularly when it came to climbing back up onto the main edge again... I do love my Merrell walking boots, but that's exactly what they are, boots made for waking, and they are a slightly different tool for slightly different tasks; conversely I probably wouldn't really want to walk much more than about 10 miles in the Inov-8's either... 👟👟🥾🥾 A perfectly timed adventure that (including joining a short group walk immediately afterwards), as the weather has turned horrid again once more today... #robinhoodscave #cave #stanageedge #scrambling #peakdistrictedges #peakdistrict #peakdistrictnationalpark #peakdistrictphotography #hiking #hikingadventures

It looks like IG has gone weird again (not allowing me to put multiple pictures full size), so instead of the post I was going to do today, here's a photo from a few months ago taken from the stone 'balcony' of Robin Hoods Turret looking towards the true / hidden Robin Hoods Cave. This line of sight cannot be seen easily and I didn't know exactly where the hidden Cave was at that time, but this shot (taken around the corner using my lanky arms + the timer on the camera/phone) worked brilliantly, the next best thing to a drone, hahaha. I tried to visit the cave too but it requires a bit of climbing and I aborted as didn't feel safe enough, but now that I've got a grippy, lightweight pair of approach style boots I bought subsequently I'll probably give it another go at some point... when the weather is better, that is (it's like being in a wind tunnel working outside today) #robinhoodscave #robinhoodsturret #stanageedge #peakdistrictedges #peakdistrict #peakdistrictnationalpark #peakdistrictphotography #peakdistrictwalks
