But if you're a human, I wouldn't do it, the juicy leaves will leave you with some serious mouth irritation. Skunk Cabbage is one of the first plants to bloom in very early spring. It has super cool flowers that generate their own heat and melt the snow around them. 'Save the Wetlands' Project, an initiative by Cambridge International School, Kapurthala, will be launched on 22nd April, 2024. Last week CRCL's Native Plants Program hosted a 3-day planting in New Isle, planting 1300 Overcup Oak, Swamp Chestnut, and Bald Cypress trees! The community known as New Isle is the nation’s first federally funded resettlement project for communities threatened by climate change. The trees will help restore the ecology of the site, transforming it from degraded fallow sugarcane fields to forested wetlands. Many of the people who live in the community belong to the Isle de Jean Charles Band of Biloxi-Chitimacha Choctaw. I love frogs and because so many of the wetlands have been filled in for building they are struggling to survive. This rainy season Alvin sank an old bathtub in the garden which filled up with rain water. We rescued tadpoles from shallow puddles and the last one turned frog this week. Hopefully we now have a garden full of frogs and next rainy season they can lay their spawn in the pond. The Last Natural Haven: Taudaha hosts diverse lotus flowers and water chestnut varieties, nurturing a complex ecosystem teeming with amphibians, reptiles, birds, and fish. Taudaha, once an emerald oasis nestled amid lush fields in the southwest corner of the Kathmandu Valley, holds immense religious, cultural, and ecological importance. Spanning 463 hectares, it was the largest pond in the Bagmati watershed, home to diverse lotus flowers, water chestnuts, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and fish, including migratory species. Over the years (examining data from 2014-2020), Taudaha has welcomed an average of 307 to 423 migratory birds annually. While the overall number has remained relatively stable, a worrying trend has emerged in the decreasing variety of species. We appreciate the exchange of ideas that comments on the page foster. We responded that, "While we can agree that density has many advantages, to many citizens it's also diThansadvantageous depending on placement. Proper zoning enhances the quality of life and protects the value of property ownership in towns and cities across America. Commercial creep and spotty but glaring exception-making to enforcement of zoning regulations generally lead to declines in property value for area homeowners, and loss of neighborhood continuity. These are important issues. Many of our postings have demonstrated that we do not object to other dense developments in the pipeline. Yet, those have been in areas that are congested, commercial areas, e.g., along Farmington Avenue in our beautiful business district, along New Britain Avenue, and in the increasingly renovated and improved New Park Avenue area. None of those developments approach the development proposed for Asylum and Trout Brook in terms of density, nor are they situated in a single-family zone, on a flood plain, in an area typified by wetlands. It's not a "not in my neighborhood" issue so much as it is a "this in incongruous and destructive in this area on many levels" issue. These are some of the factors led us to ask for a reconsideration of the plan and to our zoning change objections . . . #WeirdDuckSeason continues, so here’s a pair of ring-necked ducks, which is a species I see in decent numbers here every winter. They’re a pretty easy duck to ID from far away, but interestingly enough, it’s major field marks have nothing to do with a ring around the neck. Instead, look for a white ring around the bill, as well as that high peak on top of the head. They do indeed have a ring around their neck, but it’s dark brown and hard to see unless you’re practically holding it. Nur in einem naturnahen, nassen Zustand schützen Moorflächen das Klima - sind sie trockengelegt, stoßen sie sogar noch mehr Treibhausgase aus. Nasse Moore dienen zudem als Lebensraum für hochspezialisierte, an die Umgebung angepasste und deshalb seltene und gefährdete Tier- und Pflanzenarten und erfüllen durch ihre Wasserspeicherkapazität wichtige Funktionen als Temperatur- und Feuchtigkeitsregulatoren. ☀️Bei frühlingshaften Temperaturen befreiten die deutschen und niederländischen Grünen am Samstag ungefähr eintausend Quadratmeter Moorfläche von Bäumen und Büschen, die dem Moor zu viel Flüssigkeit entziehen und die Artenvielfalt verdrängen. Sowohl der niederländische als auch der deutsche Teil des Witte Venns sind NATURA 2000 Gebiet. Die Aktion wurde fachmännisch von Helmut Beckmann angeleitet und gefördert durch die Interreg Deutschland- Nederland. Die Sprecherin des OV Gronau, Susanne Trautwein-Köhler: „Das war erst der Anfang einer breit angelegten grenzüberschreitenden Zusammenarbeit der Grünen.
